Proverbs 22

1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.	1 Molto vale meglio all' uomo d' essere di buono nome con poco avere, che essere con ricchezza in malo nome; (e bene vale meglio ad essere di buona grazia a Dio e al mondo, che non fa grande fama, e avere grande ricchezza d' oro e d'argento).
2 The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.	2 Il povero uomo e il ricco si scontrarono; e così bene fece Iddio il povero uomo, come il ricco. (E qui dice la Scrittura: per ricchezze che uomo abbia non si deve l' uomo portare onore e riverenza, ma solamente per colui che il fece, e che lo formò alla sua imagine, e fu messo solamente per l'uomo ricomperare nella croce; e per la rimembranza di Dio non deve niuno uomo avere in dispetto, per povertà ch' egli abbia).
3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.	3 Lo malizioso vede l'avventura che avvenire gli puote, e si ripone; ma quello che è sanza peccato (e non teme se non Iddio) aspetta sicuramente ciò che Iddio gli vuole mandare.
4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.	4 Il più grande senno che l' uomo possa avere si è temere Iddio, (e meglio vale che ricchezza); e perciò è messo l' uomo in gioia, e acquistane la gloria della vita perdurabile.
5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.	5 Nella via e nella casa dello arigoglioso e nel suo cuore è tuttavia pensiero reo, (per che possa gravare altrui; chè l'arigoglioso non ama nè Dio nè uomo); ma colui che ama Iddio non penserà già di tale uomo.
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.	6 Proverbio si è, che il giovane fanciullo (tanto come egli è piccolo, è buono castigarlo e insegnarli, e) in tale vita come si mette nella sua giovinezza, appena la lascia tanto come vive.
7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.	7 Il ricco uomo è sopra i poveri; (e comandamento è sopra loro, e secondo che tiene altrui cosa non fa bene;) e chi toglie in prestanza è servo del prestatore.
8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.	8 Quello che insegna male (e che per mali esempii mette genti in via di disperazione) gli avverrà a danno, e suo potere verrà a niente.
9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.	9 Quello che ha il suo cuore in pietà e in misericordia sarà benedetto (da Dio e dal mondo; chè tiene i comandamenti della Scrittura che dice:) de' tuoi beni, che Dio t'ha donato, lietamente in questo secolo dona ai poveri. Quello che volentieri dona, sarà onorato da colui ch' egli donerà; chè niuno non può sì atare delle genti, come per donare.
10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.	10 L'uomo che ragione non vuole intendere, nè castigamento non riceverà, mettilo di lunga da te, (e non abbi cura di sua compagnia); l' uomo che è adiroso e questionevole, tanto quanto più puoi fuggilo, e sarai in pace e in equitade.
11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.	11 Quello che ama nettezza di cuore, (e volentieri si consiglia quando è mestiere a savio uomo, e riconosce umilmente suo peccato e sanza rigoglio), Iddio gli darà grazia, e perciò sarà egli amato dal Sovrano re.
12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.	12 Nostro Signore (che) riguarda dolcemente colui che ama scienza di bene; ma molto odia la parola (e il pensiero del folle e) del malvagio.
13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.	13 (Il disleale uomo dice che non sa fare bene, e che non potrebbe digiunare nè fare penitenza, ma non sa come sua vita finirà; e per lo diletto, ch' elli ha troppo amato, elli sarà tormentato nella morte dello inferno). Dice il pigro: lo leone è fuori nella via, e nel mezzo della piazza m' ucciderà.
14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.	14 La bella parola [di] folle femina è così come la profonda fossa, (donde l'uomo non puote uscire; chè ella tiene l' uomo per suo ingannamento); duramente si cruccia Dio di lui, che di tale femina non si guarda.
15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.	15 Per natura il piccolo fanciullo è in istato di follia, (chè non si sa governare, e ragione non vede); ma colui che in giovinezza gli castiga (gli fae il servo prode, e) il mette in entrata di volere e di sapienza
16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.	16 L'uomo che d'altrui danno vuole fare suo prò, e d'altrui cosa vuole fare suo avere (e accrescere, non può lungamente così essere sanza avventura; chè avere acquistato di malvagio acquisto ) non può fare buona fine; (e se colui l'ha acquistato non riceve dannaggio, le sue erede anderanno a povertà e male).
17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.	17 (Bello figliuolo, dice Salomone) intendi consiglio di prode uomo e di santo; e metti lo tuo cuore (a buone parole e) a dottrina, e meglio ti metterà la mia scienza.
18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.	18 Se tu la tieni, ella ti piacerà nel tuo cuore; chè non sarà cosa che tu non possi intendere.
19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.	19 E metti al tutto la tua fidanza nel nostro Signore; e ciò ti puote insegnare continuo Dio.
20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,	20 Sappi che io t'ho (mostrato e) insegnato in tre maniere in pensieri e in iscienzia, (come viverai sanamente sanza misfare, in te guardare di peccare e nou misfare altrui, e a Dio servire del tuo corpo. e del tuo cuore e de' beni ch' ello t'ha donati in questo mondo );
21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?	21 (io t'ho ammaestrato, che ti domandano, e che mestiero n' avranno), acciò che ti mostrassi fermezza, e parole vere rispondessi di queste cose a colui che ti mandò.
22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:	22 Guàrdati, che (per tua signoria uè per tuo potere) non facci niuno male al povero uomo; e non lo dispregiare già per sua povertade.
23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.	23 (E bene ti guarda, se tu se' giudice, che tu non giudichi a torto niuno povero uomo) chè il nostro Signore gli guarda e giudica loro retto; (e se tu non giudichi come tu devi, il sovrano giudicamento te ne renderà merito); e tutti coloro che male fanno e a' prodi uomini e a' poveri, Iddio gli confonderà alla fine, (chè non hanno chi gli difenda, se non Iddio solamente.
24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:	24 Non tenere compagnia a uomo disleale e malvagio a tuo potere, (anzi gli schifa quanto tu puoi);
25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.	25 perciò che suoi malvagi fatti ti metteranno in cattivi pensieri (corrotto dalla tua buona vita), chè per malvagio esempio sono peggiorati molto i prodi uomini. (Non essere con loro, che stando si mettono a pena; se non te ne puoi deliberare, tu ne porterai grande danno).
26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.	26 Non usare con coloro che si legano, e fannosi stadichi per gli debiti altrui. ·
27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?	27 Or dunque, s'egli non ha donde ristori, perchè ti vuogli far tòrre i panni della camera tua?
28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.	28 Non trapassare il comandamento di Santa Chiesa, nè lo insegnamento della scrittura, e non l'abbi già in dispetto; chè gli antichi santi uomini il guardarono e tennero e stabilirono. (L'uomo che volentieri è di buono cuore, fa i comandamenti della Scrittura, e si tiene in buone opere, e sostiene la buona gente a suo potere. Elli s' assicuroe al giudicamento intra' santi che il comandamento di Dio. avranno tenuto e guardato. Se tu se' savio nella Scrittura, insegna ad altrui; se tu se' con più savio di te, intendi bene quello che dirà, e a ciò che tu dirai altrui abbi bene nel tuo cuore).
29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.	29 (E bene guarda che coloro che ti intenderanno non ti possano niente riprendere nella tua parola; e se colui cui tu tieni savio ti dice alcuna. parola ingannevole, non la intendere già, ma sì tosto come tu te n'avvedi, lascia sua compagnia ). Or vedesti uomo spigliato ne' fatti suoi? quel cotale starà davanti ai re; non starà lui anzi alcuno mercenajo.
