Exodus 5

KING JAMES BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.	2 Pharaon répondit: "Qui est Yahvé, pour que j'écoute sa voix et que je laisse partir Israël? Je neconnais pas Yahvé, et quant à Israël, je ne le laisserai pas partir."
3 And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.	3 Ils dirent: "Le Dieu des Hébreux est venu à notre rencontre. Accorde-nous d'aller à trois jours demarche dans le désert pour sacrifier à Yahvé notre Dieu, sinon il nous frapperait de la peste ou de l'épée."
4 And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.	4 Le roi d'Egypte leur dit: "Pourquoi, Moïse et Aaron, voulez-vous débaucher le peuple de ses travaux?Retournez à vos corvées."
5 And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.	5 Pharaon dit: "Maintenant que le peuple est nombreux dans le pays, vous voudriez lui faireinterrompre ses corvées?"
6 And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,	6 Le jour même, Pharaon donna cet ordre aux surveillants du peuple et aux scribes:
7 Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.	7 "Ne continuez plus à donner de la paille hachée au peuple pour mouler les briques, comme hier etavant-hier; qu'ils aillent eux-mêmes ramasser la paille qu'il leur faut.
8 And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.	8 Mais vous leur imposerez la même quantité de briques qu'ils fabriquaient hier et avant-hier, sans rienen retrancher car ce sont des paresseux. C'est pour cela qu'ils crient: Allons sacrifier à notre Dieu.
9 Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.	9 Qu'on alourdisse le travail de ces gens, qu'ils le fassent et ne prêtent plus attention à ces parolestrompeuses."
10 And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.	10 Les surveillants du peuple et les scribes allèrent dire au peuple: "Ainsi parle Pharaon: Je ne vousdonne plus de paille hachée.
11 Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished.	11 Allez vous-mêmes vous chercher de la paille hachée où vous pourrez en trouver, mais rien ne seraretranché de votre travail."
12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.	12 Alors le peuple se dispersa dans tout le pays d'Egypte pour ramasser du chaume pour en faire de lapaille hachée.
13 And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.	13 Les surveillants les harcelaient: "Terminez votre travail quotidien comme lorsqu'il y avait de lapaille hachée."
14 And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?	14 On frappa les scribes des Israélites, ceux que les surveillants de Pharaon leur avaient imposés endisant: "Pourquoi n'avez-vous pas terminé la quantité de briques prescrite, aujourd'hui comme hier et avant-hier?"
15 Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?	15 Les scribes des Israélites vinrent se plaindre auprès de Pharaon en disant: "Pourquoi traiter ainsi tesserviteurs?
16 There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.	16 On ne donne plus de paille hachée à tes serviteurs et l'on nous dit: Faites des briques, et voici quel'on frappe tes serviteurs..."
17 But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.	17 Il répondit: "Vous êtes des paresseux, des paresseux, voilà pourquoi vous dites: Nous voulons allersacrifier à Yahvé.
18 Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks.	18 Maintenant allez travailler. On ne vous donnera pas de paille hachée mais vous livrerez la quantitéde briques fixée."
19 And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task.	19 Les scribes des Israélites se virent dans un mauvais cas quand on leur dit: "Vous ne diminuerez riende votre production quotidienne de briques."
20 And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:	20 Ayant quitté Pharaon, ils se heurtèrent à Moïse et à Aaron qui se tenaient devant eux.
21 And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.	21 Ils leur dirent: "Que Yahvé vous observe et qu'il juge! Vous nous avez rendus odieux aux yeux dePharaon et de ses serviteurs et vous leur avez mis l'épée en main pour nous tuer."
22 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?	22 Moïse retourna vers Yahvé et lui dit: "Seigneur, pourquoi maltraites-tu ce peuple? Pourquoi m'as-tuenvoyé?
23 For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.	23 Depuis que je suis venu trouver Pharaon et que je lui ai parlé en ton nom, il maltraite ce peuple, et tune fais rien pour délivrer ton peuple."
