1 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew these my signs before him:	1 Yahvé dit à Moïse: “Va trouver le Pharaon. Je l’ai maintenu dans son entêtement, lui et ses serviteurs, afin de réaliser tous ces prodiges au milieu d’eux.
2 And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD.	2 Ainsi tu pourras raconter à ton fils et à ton petit-fils comment j’ai triomphé des Égyptiens: tu leur diras les signes que j’ai faits au milieu d’eux pour qu’ils sachent que je suis Yahvé.”
3 And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.	3 Moïse et Aaron vinrent dire au Pharaon: “Voici ce que te dit Yahvé, le Dieu des Hébreux: Combien de temps refuseras-tu de t’abaisser devant moi? Laisse aller mon peuple pour qu’il me serve!
4 Else, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, to morrow will I bring the locusts into thy coast:	4 Si tu ne laisses pas aller mon peuple, dès demain je ferai venir des sauterelles dans tout ton pays.
5 And they shall cover the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field:	5 Elles couvriront tellement bien le sol, qu’on ne verra plus la terre. Elles mangeront tout ce qui reste encore dans les champs, tout ce que la grêle a laissé. Elles mangeront tous les arbres qui poussent pour vous dans la campagne.
6 And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh.	6 Tes maisons, les maisons de tous tes serviteurs et les maisons de tous les Égyptiens en seront remplies. Jamais, ni tes pères, ni les pères de tes pères n’ont vu chose pareille.” Alors Moïse se retira et sortit de chez le Pharaon.
7 And Pharaoh's servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?	7 Les serviteurs du Pharaon lui dirent: “Combien de temps encore cette affaire va-t-elle nous ruiner? Renvoie ces gens pour qu’ils servent Yahvé, leur Dieu! Ne vois-tu pas que l’Égypte est perdue?”
8 And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve the LORD your God: but who are they that shall go?	8 On fit donc revenir Moïse et Aaron chez le Pharaon. Il leur dit: “Allez servir Yahvé, votre Dieu! Mais quels sont ceux qui iront?”
9 And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD.	9 Moïse répondit: “Nous irons avec nos jeunes gens et nos vieillards, avec nos fils et nos filles, avec notre petit et notre gros bétail, car ce sera pour nous une fête en l’honneur de Yahvé.”
10 And he said unto them, Let the LORD be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you.	10 Le Pharaon leur dit: “Que Yahvé soit avec vous! Je dois donc vous laisser partir avec vos femmes et vos petits enfants? Mais vous avez en tête de mauvaises intentions!
11 Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.	11 Il n’en est pas question. Ce sont les hommes qui iront servir Yahvé, puisque c’est cela que vous voulez!” Ceci dit, on les chassa de devant le Pharaon.
12 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left.	12 Yahvé dit alors à Moïse: “Étends ta main sur le pays d’Égypte pour faire venir les sauterelles. Qu’elles envahissent toute l’Égypte, et qu’elles mangent tout ce qui pousse dans les champs, tout ce que la grêle a laissé!”
13 And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.	13 Moïse étendit son bâton sur l’Égypte: tout le jour et toute la nuit Yahvé fit souffler sur le pays un vent d’est. Au matin, le vent d’est avait apporté les sauterelles.
14 And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt: very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such.	14 Les sauterelles envahirent la terre d’Égypte et s’abattirent sur tout le pays: ce fut une terrible catastrophe! Jamais, ni avant ni après, on n’avait vu tant de sauterelles.
15 For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.	15 Elles couvrirent si bien la terre qu’on ne la voyait plus. Elles dévorèrent tout ce qui poussait dans les champs et tous les fruits que la grêle avait laissés sur les arbres. Il ne resta pas un brin de verdure, ni sur les arbres ni dans les champs dans tout le pays d’Égypte.
16 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you.	16 Le Pharaon se dépêcha d’appeler Moïse et Aaron; il leur dit: “J’ai péché contre Yahvé votre Dieu et contre vous!
17 Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and intreat the LORD your God, that he may take away from me this death only.	17 Maintenant, pardonne-moi ma faute au moins pour cette fois! Priez Yahvé votre Dieu pour qu’il écarte de moi ce fléau mortel.”
18 And he went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD.	18 Moïse sortit de chez le Pharaon et pria Yahvé,
19 And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt.	19 qui fit tourner le vent. Un fort vent d’ouest emporta les sauterelles vers la Mer des Roseaux: il n’en resta pas une seule dans toute l’Égypte.
20 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go.	20 Mais Yahvé voulut l’entêtement du Pharaon; celui-ci ne laissa pas partir les Israélites.
21 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.	21 Yahvé dit à Moïse: “Tends ta main vers le ciel, et sur toute l’Égypte viendront des ténèbres telles que l’on ira en tâtonnant dans les ténèbres.”
22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:	22 Moïse tendit sa main vers le ciel, et durant trois jours ce furent d’épaisses ténèbres sur toute l’Égypte.
23 They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.	23 Les gens ne se voyaient plus les uns les autres et durant trois jours nul ne bougea de sa place. Mais tous les Israélites avaient de la lumière, là où ils habitaient.
24 And Pharaoh called unto Moses, and said, Go ye, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed: let your little ones also go with you.	24 Le Pharaon appela Moïse et lui dit: “Allez servir Yahvé! Vos petits enfants iront avec vous, mais vous laisserez votre petit et votre gros bétail.”
25 And Moses said, Thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the LORD our God.	25 Moïse répondit: “Est-ce toi qui nous remettras ce qu’il convient d’offrir et de sacrifier à Yahvé, notre Dieu?
26 Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not an hoof be left behind; for thereof must we take to serve the LORD our God; and we know not with what we must serve the LORD, until we come thither.	26 C’est pourquoi nos troupeaux viendront avec nous: pas une de nos bêtes ne restera ici. D’ailleurs nous devrons servir Yahvé, notre Dieu, avec des bêtes de notre troupeau et, jusqu’à notre arrivée là-bas, nous ne saurons pas exactement ce que nous devrons offrir à Yahvé.”
27 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go.	27 Yahvé voulut alors que le Pharaon s’entête: il refusa de les laisser partir.
28 And Pharaoh said unto him, Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in that day thou seest my face thou shalt die.	28 Le Pharaon dit à Moïse: “Va-t’en d’ici et garde-toi bien de revenir, car le jour où tu te présenteras devant moi, tu mourras!”
29 And Moses said, Thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again no more.	29 Moïse répondit: “Tu l’as très bien dit, je ne me présenterai plus devant toi.”
