Jeremiás könyve 51

1 Így szól az Úr: »Íme, én pusztító szelet támasztok Babilon ellen és Léb-Kamai lakói ellen.	1 Yahweh says this: Against Babylon and the inhabitants of Leb-Kamai I shal rouse a destructive wind.
2 Idegeneket küldök Babilonba, akik szélnek szórják, és kifosztják országát. Bizony, ellene fordulnak mindenfelől a veszedelem napján.	2 I shal send winnowers to Babylon to winnow her and leave her country bare, for she wil bebeleaguered on all sides, on the day of disaster.
3 Ne is feszítse íját az íjász, és ne büszkélkedjék páncéljával! Ne kíméljétek ifjait, irtsátok ki egész seregét!«	3 Let no archer bend his bow! Let no man swagger in his breastplate!-No quarter for her young men!Curse her whole army with destruction!

Mert az Úr bosszújának ideje ez, érdeme szerint fizet meg neki.	6 Escape from Babylon (save your lives, each one of you); do not perish for her guilt, for now is the timefor Yahweh's vengeance: he wil pay her her reward!
7 Aranyserleg volt Babilon az Úr kezében, mely megrészegítette az egész földet; borából ittak a nemzetek, azért vesztették eszüket.	7 Babylon was a golden cup in Yahweh's hand, she made the whole world drunk, the nations drank herwine and then went mad.

10 Napfényre hozta az Úr igazságunkat; jöjjetek, és beszéljük el Sionban az Úrnak, a mi Istenünknek művét!«	10 Yahweh has shown the uprightness of our cause. Come, let us tell in Zion what Yahweh our God hasdone.
11 Hegyezzétek a nyilakat, töltsétek meg a tegzeket! Felindította az Úr Média királyainak lelkét, mert Babilonnal az a terve, hogy elpusztítja. Mert az Úr bosszúja ez, bosszú a templomáért.	11 Sharpen the arrows, fill the quivers! For Yahweh has both planned and done what he promised he would to the inhabitants ofBabylon.
13 Te, aki nagy vizek mellett lakol, aki gazdag vagy kincsekben, eljött számodra a vég, vége nyerészkedésednek!	13 Enthroned beside abundant waters, rich in treasures, you now meet your end, the finish of yourpil aging.
14 Megesküdött a Seregek Ura önmagára: »Ha meg is töltöttelek annyi emberrel, mint a sáska, felhangzik majd fölötted a diadalének.«	14 By his own self Yahweh Sabaoth has sworn: I shal fil you with men as though with grasshoppers,and over you they wil raise the triumph-shout.
15 Aki alkotta a földet erejével, megszilárdította a földkerekséget bölcsességével, és értelmével kifeszítette az egeket,	15 By his power he made the earth, by his wisdom set the world firm, by his discernment spread out theheavens.

17 Ostoba lett minden ember tudás híján, szégyent vallott minden ötvös a szobrával; mert hamisság az öntvénye, és nincs bennük lélek.	17 At this everyone stands stupefied, uncomprehending, every goldsmith blushes for his idols; hiscastings are but delusion, with no breath in them.

23 Összezúztam veled pásztort és nyáját, összezúztam veled földművest és fogatát, összezúztam veled helytartókat és kormányzókat.	23 with you crushed shepherd and flock, with you crushed ploughman and team, with you crushedgovernors and magistrates,
24 De megfizetek Babilonnak és Káldea valamennyi lakójának minden gonoszságukért, melyet Sionban műveltek szemetek láttára – mondja az Úr. –	24 and I shal repay Babylon and the inhabitants of Chaldaea, before your eyes, for al the wrongs theyhave done to Zion, Yahweh declares.
25 Íme, én ellened vagyok, pusztítás hegye – mondja az Úr –, aki pusztítod az egész földet; kinyújtom rád kezemet, legördítelek a kősziklákról, és kiégett heggyé teszlek.	25 I am setting myself against you, mountain of destruction, Yahweh declares, destroyer of the wholeworld! I shall reach out my hand for you and send you tumbling from the crags and make you a burnt-outmountain.
26 Nem vesznek belőled szegletkövet, sem alapkövet, mert örök pusztasággá leszel« – mondja az Úr.	26 No corner-stone wil be taken from you again and no foundation-stone, for you will be a desert forever, Yahweh declares.
27 Emeljetek zászlót a földön, fújjátok meg a harsonát a nemzetek között! Szenteljetek ellene nemzeteket, hívjátok össze ellene Ararát, Menni és Askenáz királyságait! Rendeljetek ellene összeírót, vonultassatok fel lovakat, mint borzas sáskákat!	27 Raise the standard throughout the world, sound the trumpet among the nations! Consecrate nationsto make war on her; summon kingdoms against her: Ararat, Minni, Ashkenaz; appoint a recruiting-officer for herenemies, bring up the cavalry, bristling like locusts.
28 Szenteljetek ellene nemzeteket, Média királyait, helytartóit és minden kormányzóját, az uralma alatt álló egész földet!	28 Consecrate nations to make war on her: the kings of Media, her governors, all her magistrates andthe whole territory under their rule.
29 Megrendült a föld, és megremegett, mert beteljesedett Babilonon az Úr terve, hogy Babilon földjét pusztasággá tegye, és ne legyen lakója.	29 Then the earth trembled and writhed, for Yahweh's plan against Babylon was being executed: tochange the country of Babylon into an unpopulated desert.
30 Abbahagyták a harcot Babilon hősei, a várakban ülnek; elapadt erejük, asszonyokká lettek. Felgyújtották hajlékait, összetörték zárait.	30 The warriors of Babylon have done with fighting, they have stayed inside their fortresses; theircourage exhausted, they are now like women. Her houses are on fire, her gates are shattered.

35 »A testemen elkövetett erőszak szálljon Babilonra!« – mondja Sion lakója. »Vérem szálljon Káldea lakóira!« – mondja Jeruzsálem.	35 'On Babylon be the wounds I suffered!' the daughter of Zion wil say. 'On the inhabitants of Chaldaeabe my blood!' Jerusalem wil say.
36 Ezért így szól az Úr: »Íme, én perlem peredet, és bosszút állok érted; kiszárítom tengerét, és kiapasztom forrását.	36 So, Yahweh says this: Look, I am taking up your cause to make sure you are avenged. I shal dry herriver up, make her springs run dry.
37 Kőhalmazzá lesz Babilon, sakálok tanyájává, borzadállyá és gúny tárgyává, s nem lesz lakója.	37 Babylon wil become a heap of stones, the lair of jackals, a thing of horror and of scorn, with no oneliving in it.
38 Együtt ordítanak, mint az oroszlánkölykök, morognak, mint a fiatal oroszlánok.	38 Like lions they roar together, they growl like lions' whelps.
39 Mikor fölhevülnek, lakomát készítek nekik, és lerészegítem őket, hogy vigadjanak, majd örök álomba szenderüljenek, és ne ébredjenek fel – mondja az Úr. –	39 Are they feverish? I wil prepare them a drink and make them drink until they are tipsy and fal into aneverlasting sleep, never to wake again, Yahweh declares.

45 Menjetek ki belőle, én népem! Mentse mindenki az életét az Úr izzó haragjától!	45 Get out of her, my people; save your lives, each one of you, from Yahweh's furious anger.
46 Ne lágyuljon meg szívetek, és ne ijedjetek meg a hírtől, mely hallatszik a földön! Eljön ugyanis a hír az egyik esztendőben, és utána a hír a másik esztendőben; erőszak lesz a földön, és uralkodó uralkodó ellen támad.	46 But do not be faint-hearted! Do not take fright at rumours hawked round the country: one rumourspreads one year, next year another fol ows; violence rules on earth and one tyrant succeeds another.
