JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Que je chante à mon bien-aimé le chant de mon ami pour sa vigne. Mon bien-aimé avait une vigne, surun coteau fertile.	1 Let me now sing of my friend, my friend's song concerning his vineyard. My friend had a vineyard on a fertile hillside;
2 Il la bêcha, il l'épierra, il y planta du raisin vermeil. Au milieu il bâtit une tour, il y creusa même unpressoir. Il attendait de beaux raisins: elle donna des raisins sauvages.	2 He spaded it, cleared it of stones, and planted the choicest vines; Within it he built a watchtower, and hewed out a wine press. Then he looked for the crop of grapes, but what it yielded was wild grapes.
3 Et maintenant, habitants de Jérusalem et gens de Juda, soyez juges entre moi et ma vigne.	3 Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard:
4 Que pouvais-je encore faire pour ma vigne que je n'aie fait? Pourquoi espérais-je avoir de beauxraisins, et a-t-elle donné des raisins sauvages?	4 What more was there to do for my vineyard that I had not done? Why, when I looked for the crop of grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes?
5 Et maintenant, que je vous apprenne ce que je vais faire à ma vigne! en ôter la haie pour qu'on viennela brouter, en briser la clôture pour qu'on la piétine;	5 Now, I will let you know what I mean to do to my vineyard: Take away its hedge, give it to grazing, break through its wall, let it be trampled!
6 j'en ferai un maquis: elle ne sera ni taillée ni sarclée, ronces et épines y croîtront, j'interdirai aux nuagesd'y faire tomber la pluie.	6 Yes, I will make it a ruin: it shall not be pruned or hoed, but overgrown with thorns and briers; I will command the clouds not to send rain upon it.
7 Eh bien! la vigne de Yahvé Sabaot, c'est la maison d'Israël, et l'homme de Juda, c'est son plant dechoix. Il attendait le droit et voici l'iniquité, la justice et voici les cris.	7 The vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah are his cherished plant; He looked for judgment, but see, bloodshed! for justice, but hark, the outcry!
8 Malheur à ceux qui ajoutent maison à maison, qui joignent champ à champ jusqu'à ne plus laisser deplace et rester seuls habitants au milieu du pays.	8 Woe to you who join house to house, who connect field with field, Till no room remains, and you are left to dwell alone in the midst of the land!
9 A mes oreilles, Yahvé Sabaot l'a juré: Oui, nombre de maisons seront réduites en ruine, grandes etbelles, elles seront inhabitées.	9 In my hearing the LORD of hosts has sworn: Many houses shall be in ruins, large ones and fine, with no one to live in them.
10 Car dix arpents de vigne ne donneront qu'un tonnelet, et un muid de semence ne produira qu'unemesure.	10 Ten acres of vineyard shall yield but one liquid measure, And a homer of seed shall yield but an ephah.
11 Malheur à ceux qui se lèvent tôt le matin pour courir à la boisson, qui s'attardent le soir, ivres de vin.	11 Woe to those who demand strong drink as soon as they rise in the morning, And linger into the night while wine inflames them!
12 Ce ne sont que harpes et cithares, tambourins et flûtes, et du vin pour leurs beuveries. Mais pourl'oeuvre de Yahvé, pas un regard, l'action de ses mains, ils ne la voient pas.	12 With harp and lyre, timbrel and flute, they feast on wine; But what the LORD does, they regard not, the work of his hands they see not.
13 C'est pourquoi mon peuple est exilé, faute de connaissance; sa noblesse: des gens affamés! ses foulesséchant de soif!	13 Therefore my people go into exile, because they do not understand; Their nobles die of hunger, and their masses are parched with thirst.
14 C'est pourquoi le shéol dilate sa gorge et bée d'une gueule démesurée. Ils y descendent, ses nobles, sesfoules et ses criards, et ils y exultent.	14 Therefore the nether world enlarges its throat and opens its maw without limit; Down go their nobility and their masses, their throngs and their revelry.
15 Le mortel a été humilié, l'homme a été abaissé et les yeux des orgueilleux sont baissés.	15 Men shall be abased, each one brought low, and the eyes of the haughty lowered,
16 Yahvé Sabaot fut exalté dans son jugement et le Dieu saint a révélé sa sainteté dans la justice.	16 But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted by his judgment, and God the Holy shall be shown holy by his justice.
17 Les agneaux paîtront comme dans leurs pâtures, les pacages dévastés des bêtes grasses seront lanourriture des chevreaux.	17 Lambs shall graze there at pasture, and kids shall eat in the ruins of the rich.
18 Malheur à qui tire la faute avec les liens de la tromperie, et le péché comme avec un trait de chariot;	18 Woe to those who tug at guilt with cords of perversity, and at sin as if with cart ropes!
19 à ceux qui disent: "Qu'il fasse vite, qu'il hâte son oeuvre, pour que nous la voyions; que s'approche etse réalise le projet du Saint d'Israël, que nous le reconnaissions."	19 To those who say, "Let him make haste and speed his work, that we may see it; On with the plan of the Holy One of Israel! let it come to pass, that we may know it!"
20 Malheur à ceux qui appellent le mal bien et le bien mal, qui font des ténèbres la lumière et de lalumière les ténèbres, qui font de l'amer le doux et du doux l'amer.	20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil, who change darkness into light, and light into darkness, who change bitter into sweet, and sweet into bitter!
21 Malheur à ceux qui sont sages à leurs propres yeux et s'estiment intelligents.	21 Woe to those who are wise in their own sight, and prudent in their own esteem!
22 Malheur à ceux qui sont des héros pour boire du vin et des champions pour mélanger la boisson,	22 Woe to the champions at drinking wine, the valiant at mixing strong drink!
23 qui acquittent le coupable pour un pot-de-vin, et refusent au juste la justice.	23 To those who acquit the guilty for bribes, and deprive the just man of his rights!
24 Oui, comme la flamme dévore la paille, comme le foin s'enflamme et disparaît, leur racineressemblera à de la pourriture, leur bourgeon sera emporté comme la poussière. Car ils ont rejeté la loi de YahvéSabaot, ils ont méprisé la parole du Saint d'Israël.	24 Therefore, as the tongue of fire licks up stubble, as dry grass shrivels in the flame, Even so their root shall become rotten and their blossom scatter like dust; For they have spurned the law of the LORD of hosts, and scorned the word of the Holy One of Israel.
25 C'est pourquoi la colère de Yahvé s'est enflammée contre son peuple; il a levé la main contre lui pourle frapper, les montagnes ont tremblé, et les cadavres sont comme des ordures au milieu des rues. Avec tout celala colère de Yahvé ne s'est pas calmée, sa main reste levée.	25 Therefore the wrath of the LORD blazes against his people, he raises his hand to strike them; When the mountains quake, their corpses shall be like refuse in the streets. For all this, his wrath is not turned back, and his hand is still outstretched.
26 Il dresse un signal pour le peuple lointain, il le siffle des extrémités de la terre, et voici qu'aussitôt ilaccourt, léger.	26 He will give a signal to a far-off nation, and whistle to them from the ends of the earth; speedily and promptly will they come.
27 Chez lui nul n'est fatigué, nul ne trébuche, nul ne dort ni ne sommeille, nul ne dénoue la ceinture deses reins, nul n'a la courroie de ses sandales rompue.	27 None of them will stumble with weariness, none will slumber and none will sleep. None will have his waist belt loose, nor the thong of his sandal broken.
28 Ses flèches sont aiguisées et tous ses arcs tendus, les sabots de ses chevaux, on dirait du rocher, et sesroues, un tourbillon.	28 Their arrows are sharp, and all their bows are bent. The hoofs of their horses seem like flint, and their chariot wheels like the hurricane.
29 Son rugissement est celui d'une lionne, il rugit comme les lionceaux, il gronde et saisit sa proie, ill'emporte et nul ne le fait lâcher;	29 Their roar is that of the lion, like the lion's whelps they roar; They growl and seize the prey, they carry it off and none will rescue it.
30 il gronde contre lui, en ce jour-là, comme gronde la mer. Il regarde le pays: et voici les ténèbres,l'angoisse, et la lumière est obscurcie par les nuages.	30 (They will roar over it, on that day, with a roaring like that of the sea.)
