Σας φανερονω δε, αδελφοι, το ευαγγελιον, το οποιον εκηρυξα προς εσας, το οποιον και παρελαβετε, εις το οποιον και ιστασθε,1 And so I make known to you, brothers, the Gospel that I preached to you, which you also received, and on which you stand.
δια του οποιου και σωζεσθε, τινι τροπω σας εκηρυξα αυτο, αν φυλαττητε αυτο, εκτος εαν επιστευσατε ματαιως.2 By the Gospel, too, you are being saved, if you hold to the understanding that I preached to you, lest you believe in vain.
Διοτι παρεδωκα εις εσας εν πρωτοις εκεινο, το οποιον και παρελαβον, οτι ο Χριστος απεθανε δια τας αμαρτιας ημων κατα τας γραφας,3 For I handed on to you, first of all, what I also received: that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures;
και οτι εταφη, και οτι ανεστη την τριτην ημεραν κατα τας γραφας,4 and that he was buried; and that he rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures;
και οτι εφανη εις τον Κηφαν, επειτα εις τους δωδεκα?5 and that he was seen by Cephas, and after that by the eleven.
μετα ταυτα εφανη εις πεντακοσιους και επεκεινα αδελφους δια μιας, εκ των οποιων οι πλειοτεροι μενουσιν εως τωρα, τινες δε και εκοιμηθησαν?6 Next he was seen by more than five hundred brothers at one time, many of whom remain, even to the present time, although some have fallen asleep.
επειτα εφανη εις τον Ιακωβον, επειτα εις παντας τους αποστολους?7 Next, he was seen by James, then by all the Apostles.
τελευταιον δε παντων εφανη και εις εμε ως εις εκτρωμα.8 And last of all, he was seen also by me, as if I were someone born at the wrong time.
Διοτι εγω ειμαι ο ελαχιστος των αποστολων, οστις δεν ειμαι αξιος να ονομαζωμαι αποστολος, διοτι κατεδιωξα την εκκλησιαν του Θεου?9 For I am the least of the Apostles. I am not worthy to be called an Apostle, because I persecuted the Church of God.
και η εις εμε χαρις αυτου δεν εγεινε ματαια, αλλα περισσοτερον αυτων παντων εκοπιασα, πλην ουχι εγω, αλλ' η χαρις του Θεου η μετ' εμου.10 But, by the grace of God, I am what I am. And his grace in me has not been empty, since I have labored more abundantly than all of them. Yet it is not I, but the grace of God within me.
Ειτε λοιπον εγω ειτε εκεινοι, ουτω κηρυττομεν και ουτως επιστευσατε.11 For whether it is I or they: so we preach, and so you have believed.
Εαν δε ο Χριστος κηρυττηται οτι ανεστη εκ νεκρων, πως τινες μεταξυ σας λεγουσιν οτι αναστασις νεκρων δεν ειναι;12 Now if Christ is preached, that he rose again from the dead, how is it that some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
Και εαν αναστασις νεκρων δεν ηναι, ουδ' ο Χριστος ανεστη?13 For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not risen.
και αν ο Χριστος δεν ανεστη, ματαιον αρα ειναι το κηρυγμα ημων, ματαια δε και η πιστις σας.14 And if Christ has not risen, then our preaching is useless, and your faith is also useless.
Ευρισκομεθα δε και ψευδομαρτυρες του Θεου, διοτι εμαρτυρησαμεν περι του Θεου οτι ανεστησε τον Χριστον, τον οποιον δεν ανεστησεν, εαν καθ' υποθεσιν δεν ανασταινωνται νεκροι.15 Then, too, we would be found to be false witnesses of God, because we would have given testimony against God, saying that he had raised up Christ, when he had not raised him up, if, indeed, the dead do not rise again.
Διοτι εαν δεν ανασταινωνται νεκροι, ουδ' ο Χριστος ανεστη?16 For if the dead do not rise again, then neither has Christ risen again.
ετι εισθε εν ταις αμαρτιαις υμων.17 But if Christ has not risen, then your faith is vain; for you would still be in your sins.
Αρα και οι κοιμηθεντες εν Χριστω απωλεσθησαν.18 Then, too, those who have fallen asleep in Christ would have perished.
Εαν εν ταυτη τη ζωη μονον ελπιζωμεν εις τον Χριστον, ειμεθα ελεεινοτεροι παντων των ανθρωπων.19 If we have hope in Christ for this life only, then we are more miserable than all men.
Αλλα τωρα ο Χριστος ανεστη εκ νεκρων, εγεινεν απαρχη των κεκοιμημενων.20 But now Christ has risen again from the dead, as the first-fruits of those who sleep.
Διοτι επειδη ο θανατος ηλθε δι' ανθρωπου, ουτω και δι' ανθρωπου η αναστασις των νεκρων.21 For certainly, death came through a man. And so, the resurrection of the dead came through a man
Επειδη καθως παντες αποθνησκουσιν εν τω Αδαμ, ουτω και παντες θελουσι ζωοποιηθη εν τω Χριστω.22 And just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be brought to life,
ο Χριστος ειναι η απαρχη, επειτα οσοι ειναι του Χριστου εν τη παρουσια αυτου?23 but each one in his proper order: Christ, as the first-fruits, and next, those who are of Christ, who have believed in his advent.
Υστερον θελει εισθαι το τελος, οταν παραδωση την βασιλειαν εις τον Θεον και Πατερα, οταν καταργηση πασαν αρχην και πασαν εξουσιαν και δυναμιν.24 Afterwards is the end, when he will have handed over the kingdom to God the Father, when he will have emptied all principality, and authority, and power.
Διοτι πρεπει να βασιλευη εωσου θεση παντας τους εχθρους υπο τους ποδας αυτου.25 For it is necessary for him to reign, until he has set all his enemies under his feet.
Εσχατος εχθρος καταργειται ο θανατος?26 Lastly, the enemy called death shall be destroyed. For he has subjected all things under his feet. And although he says,
Οταν δε ειπη οτι παντα ειναι υποτεταγμενα, φανερον οτι εξαιρειται ο υποταξας εις αυτον τα παντα.27 “All things have been subjected to him,” without doubt he does not include the One who has subjected all things to him.
Οταν δε υποταχθωσιν εις αυτον τα παντα, τοτε και αυτος ο Υιος θελει υποταχθη εις τον υποταξαντα εις αυτον τα παντα, δια να ηναι ο Θεος τα παντα εν πασιν.28 And when all things will have been subjected to him, then even the Son himself will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to him, so that God may be all in all.
Επειδη τι θελουσι καμει οι βαπτιζομενοι υπερ των νεκρων, εαν τωοντι οι νεκροι δεν ανασταινωνται, δια τι και βαπτιζονται υπερ των νεκρων;29 Otherwise, what will those who are being baptized for the dead do, if the dead do not rise again at all? Why then are they being baptized for them?
δια τι και ημεις κινδυνευομεν πασαν ωραν;30 Why also do we endure trials every hour?
Καθ' ημεραν αποθνησκω, μα την εις εσας καυχησιν μου, την οποιαν εχω εν Χριστω Ιησου τω Κυριω ημων.31 Daily I die, by means of your boasting, brothers: you whom I have in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Εαν κατα ανθρωπον επολεμησα με θηρια εν Εφεσω, τι το οφελος εις εμε; αν οι νεκροι δεν ανασταινωνται, ας φαγωμεν και ας πιωμεν, διοτι αυριον αποθνησκομεν.32 If, according to man, I fought with the beasts at Ephesus, how would that benefit me, if the dead do not rise again? “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die.”
Φθειρουσι τα καλα ηθη αι κακαι συναναστροφαι.33 Do not be led astray. Evil communication corrupts good morals.
προς εντροπην σας λεγω τουτο.34 Be vigilant, you just ones, and do not be willing to sin. For certain persons have an ignorance of God. I say this to you with respect.
Πως ανασταινονται οι νεκροι; και με ποιον σωμα ερχονται;35 But someone may say, “How do the dead rise again?” or, “What type of body do they return with?”
What you sow cannot be brought back to life, unless it first dies.
και εκεινο το οποιον σπειρεις, δεν σπειρεις το σωμα το οποιον μελλει να γεινη, αλλα γυμνον κοκκον, σιτου τυχον η τινος των λοιπων.37 And what you sow is not the body that will be in the future, but a bare grain, such as of wheat, or of some other grain.
Ο δε Θεος διδει εις αυτο σωμα καθως ηθελησε, και εις εκαστον των σπερματων το ιδιαιτερον αυτου σωμα.38 For God gives it a body according to his will, and according to each seed’s proper body.
Πασα σαρξ δεν ειναι η αυτη σαρξ, αλλα αλλη μεν σαρξ των ανθρωπων, αλλη δε σαρξ των κτηνων, αλλη δε των ιχθυων και αλλη των πτηνων.39 Not all flesh is the same flesh. But one is indeed of men, another truly is of beasts, another is of birds, and another is of fish.
πλην αλλη μεν η δοξα των επουρανιων, αλλη δε η των επιγειων.40 Also, there are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies. But while the one, certainly, has the glory of heaven, the other has the glory of earth.
διοτι αστηρ διαφερει αστερος κατα την δοξαν.41 One has the brightness of the sun, another the brightness of the moon, and another the brightness of the stars. For even star differs from star in brightness.
Σπειρεται εν φθορα, ανισταται εν αφθαρσια?42 So it is also with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown in corruption shall rise to incorruption.
σπειρεται εν ασθενεια, ανισταται εν δυναμει?43 What is sown in dishonor shall rise to glory. What is sown in weakness shall rise to power.
Ειναι σωμα ζωικον, και ειναι σωμα πνευματικον.44 What is sown with an animal body shall rise with a spiritual body. If there is an animal body, there is also a spiritual one.
ο εσχατος Αδαμ εις πνευμα ζωοποιουν.45 Just as it was written that the first man, Adam, was made with a living soul, so shall the last Adam be made with a spirit brought back to life.
Πλην ουχι πρωτον το πνευματικον, αλλα το ζωικον, επειτα το πνευματικον.46 So what is, at first, not spiritual, but animal, next becomes spiritual.
Ο πρωτος ανθρωπος ειναι εκ της γης χοικος, ο δευτερος ανθρωπος ο Κυριος εξ ουρανου.47 The first man, being earthly, was of the earth; the second man, being heavenly, will be of heaven.
Οποιος ο χοικος, τοιουτοι και οι χοικοι, και οποιος ο επουρανιος, τοιουτοι και οι επουρανιοι?48 Such things as are like the earth are earthly; and such things as are like the heavens are heavenly.
και καθως εφορεσαμεν την εικονα του χοικου, θελομεν φορεσει και την εικονα του επουρανιου.49 And so, just as we have carried the image of what is earthly, let us also carry the image of what is heavenly.
Τουτο δε λεγω, αδελφοι, οτι σαρξ και αιμα βασιλειαν Θεου δεν δυνανται να κληρονομησωσιν, ουδε η φθορα κληρονομει την αφθαρσιαν.50 Now I say this, brothers, because flesh and blood is not able to possess the kingdom of God; neither will what is corrupt possess what is incorrupt.
παντες μεν δεν θελομεν κοιμηθη, παντες ομως θελομεν μεταμορφωθη,51 Behold, I tell you a mystery. Certainly, we shall all rise again, but we shall not all be transformed:
εν μια στιγμη, εν ριπη οφθαλμου, εν τη εσχατη σαλπιγγι? διοτι θελει σαλπισει, και οι νεκροι θελουσιν αναστηθη αφθαρτοι, και ημεις θελομεν μεταμορφωθη.52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will rise up, incorruptible. And we shall be transformed.
Διοτι πρεπει το φθαρτον τουτο να ενδυθη αφθαρσιαν, και το θνητον τουτο να ενδυθη αθανασιαν.53 Thus, it is necessary for this corruptibility to be clothed with incorruptibility, and for this mortality to be clothed with immortality.
Κατεποθη ο θανατος εν νικη.54 And when this mortality has been clothed with immortality, then the word that was written shall occur: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
Που, θανατε, το κεντρον σου; που, αδη, η νικη σου;55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
το δε κεντρον του θανατου ειναι η αμαρτια, και η δυναμις της αμαρτιας ο νομος.56 Now the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
Αλλα χαρις εις τον Θεον, οστις διδει εις ημας την νικην δια του Κυριου ημων Ιησου Χριστου.57 But thanks be to God, who has given us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ωστε, αδελφοι μου αγαπητοι, γινεσθε στερεοι, αμετακινητοι, περισσευοντες παντοτε εις το εργον του Κυριου, γινωσκοντες οτι ο κοπος σας δεν ειναι ματαιος εν Κυριω.58 And so, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and unmovable, abounding always in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not useless in the Lord.
