DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW JERUSALEM
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth. For the first heaven and the first earth was gone, and the sea is now no more.1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; the first heaven and the first earth had disappeared now,and there was no longer any sea.
And I John saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.2 I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bridedressed for her husband.
And I heard a great voice from the throne, saying: Behold the tabernacle of God with men, and he will dwell with them. And they shall be his people; and God himself with them shall be their God.3 Then I heard a loud voice cal from the throne, 'Look, here God lives among human beings. He willmake his home among them; they will be his people, and he wil be their God, God-with-them.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes: and death shall be no more, nor mourning, nor crying, nor sorrow shall be any more, for the former things are passed away.4 He wil wipe away all tears from their eyes; there will be no more death, and no more mourning orsadness or pain. The world of the past has gone.'
And he that sat on the throne, said: Behold, I make all things new. And he said to me: Write, for these words are most faithful and true.5 Then the One sitting on the throne spoke. 'Look, I am making the whole of creation new. Write this,"What I am saying is trustworthy and will come true."
And he said to me: It is done. I am Alpha and Omega; the beginning and the end. To him that thirsteth, I will give of the fountain of the water of life, freely.6 Then he said to me, 'It has already happened. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and theEnd. I wil give water from the wel of life free to anybody who is thirsty;
He that shall overcome shall possess these things, and I will be his God; and he shall be my son.7 anyone who proves victorious wil inherit these things; and I will be his God and he wil be my son.
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, they shall have their portion in the pool burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.8 But the legacy for cowards, for those who break their word, or worship obscenities, for murderers andthe sexual y immoral, and for sorcerers, worshippers of false gods or any other sort of liars, is the second deathin the burning lake of sulphur.'
And there came one of the seven angels, who had the vials full of the seven last plagues, and spoke with me, saying: Come, and I will shew thee the bride, the wife of the Lamb.9 One of the seven angels that had the seven bowls ful of the seven final plagues came to speak to meand said, 'Come here and I wil show you the bride that the Lamb has married.'
And he took me up in spirit to a great and high mountain: and he shewed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God,10 In the spirit, he carried me to the top of a very high mountain, and showed me Jerusalem, the holycity, coming down out of heaven from God.
Having the glory of God, and the light thereof was like to a precious stone, as to the jasper stone, even as crystal.11 It had al the glory of God and glittered like some precious jewel of crystal-clear diamond.
And it had a wall great and high, having twelve gates, and in the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel.12 Its wal was of a great height and had twelve gates; at each of the twelve gates there was an angel, and over the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel;
On the east, three gates: and on the north, three gates: and on the south, three gates: and on the west, three gates.13 on the east there were three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on thewest three gates.
And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them, the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.14 The city wal s stood on twelve foundation stones, each one of which bore the name of one of thetwelve apostles of the Lamb.
And he that spoke with me, had a measure of a reed of gold, to measure the city and the gates thereof, and the wall.15 The angel that was speaking to me was carrying a gold measuring rod to measure the city and itsgates and wal .
And the city lieth in a foursquare, and the length thereof is as great as the breadth: and he measured the city with the golden reed for twelve thousand furlongs, and the length and the height and the breadth thereof are equal.16 The plan of the city is perfectly square, its length the same as its breadth. He measured the city withhis rod and it was twelve thousand furlongs, equal in length and in breadth, and equal in height.
And he measured the wall thereof an hundred and forty-four cubits, the measure of a man, which is of an angel.17 He measured its wal , and this was a hundred and forty-four cubits high -- by human measurements.
And the building of the wall thereof was of jasper stone: but the city itself pure gold, like to clear glass.18 The wall was built of diamond, and the city of pure gold, like clear glass.
And the foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper: the second, sapphire: the third, a chalcedony: the fourth, an emerald:19 The foundations of the city wall were faced with al kinds of precious stone: the first with diamond, thesecond lapis lazuli, the third turquoise, the fourth crystal,
The fifth, sardonyx: the sixth, sardius: the seventh, chrysolite: the eighth, beryl: the ninth, a topaz: the tenth, a chrysoprasus: the eleventh, a jacinth: the twelfth, an amethyst.20 the fifth agate, the sixth ruby, the seventh gold quartz, the eighth malachite, the ninth topaz, the tenthemerald, the eleventh sapphire and the twelfth amethyst.
And the twelve gates are twelve pearls, one to each: and every several gate was of one several pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate being made of a single pearl, and the main street ofthe city was pure gold, transparent as glass.
And I saw no temple therein. For the Lord God Almighty is the temple thereof, and the Lamb.22 I could not see any temple in the city since the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb were themselvesthe temple,
And the city hath no need of the sun, nor of the moon, to shine in it. For the glory of God hath enlightened it, and the Lamb is the lamp thereof.23 and the city did not need the sun or the moon for light, since it was lit by the radiant glory of God, andthe Lamb was a lighted torch for it.
And the nations shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth shall bring their glory and honour into it.24 The nations wil come to its light and the kings of the earth wil bring it their treasures.
And the gates thereof shall not be shut by day: for there shall be no night there.25 Its gates will never be closed by day -- and there will be no night there-
And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.26 and the nations wil come, bringing their treasure and their wealth.
There shall not enter into it any thing defiled, or that worketh abomination or maketh a lie, but they that are written in the book of life of the Lamb.27 Nothing unclean may come into it: no one who does what is loathsome or false, but only those whoare listed in the Lamb's book of life.
