DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Now the Spirit manifestly saith, that in the last times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to spirits of error, and doctrines of devils,1 Now the Spirit explicitly says that in the last times some will turn away from the faith by paying attention to deceitful spirits and demonic instructions
Speaking lies in hypocrisy, and having their conscience seared,2 through the hypocrisy of liars with branded consciences.
Forbidding to marry, to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by the faithful, and by them that have known the truth.3 They forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be rejected that is received with thanksgiving:4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected when received with thanksgiving,
For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.5 for it is made holy by the invocation of God in prayer.
These things proposing to the brethren, thou shalt be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished up in the words of faith, and of the good doctrine which thou hast attained unto.6 If you will give these instructions to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching you have followed.
But avoid foolish and old wives' fables: and exercise thyself unto godliness.7 Avoid profane and silly myths. Train yourself for devotion,
For bodily exercise is profitable to little: but godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.8 for, while physical training is of limited value, devotion is valuable in every respect, since it holds a promise of life both for the present and for the future.
A faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.9 This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance.
For therefore we labor and are reviled, because we hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, especially of the faithful.10 For this we toil and struggle, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the savior of all, especially of those who believe.
These things command and teach.11 Command and teach these things.
Let no man despise thy youth: but be thou an example of the faithful in word, in conversation, in charity, in faith, in chastity.12 Let no one have contempt for your youth, but set an example for those who believe, in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity.
Till I come, attend unto reading, to exhortation, and to doctrine.13 Until I arrive, attend to the reading, exhortation, and teaching.
Neglect not the grace that is in thee, which was given thee by prophesy, with imposition of the hands of the priesthood.14 Do not neglect the gift you have, which was conferred on you through the prophetic word with the imposition of hands of the presbyterate.
Meditate upon these things, be wholly in these things: that thy profiting may be manifest to all.15 Be diligent in these matters, be absorbed in them, so that your progress may be evident to everyone.
Take heed to thyself and to doctrine: be earnest in them. For in doing this thou shalt both save thyself and them that hear thee.16 Attend to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in both tasks, for by doing so you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.
