1 And the Lord spoke these things also to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, over against Jericho:	1 IL Signore parlò ancora a Mosè, nelle campagne di Moab, presso al Giordano di Gerico, dicendo:
2 Command the children of Israel that they give to the Levites out of their possessions,	2 Comanda a’ figliuoli d’Israele che dieno, della possessione della loro eredità, ai Leviti, delle città da abitare, e anche i contorni di esse città.
3 Cities to dwell in, and their suburbs round about: that they may abide in the towns, and the suburbs may be for their cattle and beasts:	3 Abbiano adunque le città per abitarvi; e sieno i contorni di esse per li lor bestiami, per le lor facoltà, e per tutte le lor bestie.
4 Which suburbs shall reach from the walls of the cities outward, a thousand paces on every side:	4 E sieno i contorni delle città, che voi darete a’ Leviti, ciascuno di mille cubiti d’ogn’intorno, dalle mura della città in fuori.
5 Toward the east shall be two thousand cubits: and toward the south in like manner shall be two thousand cubits: toward the sea also, which looketh to the west, shall be the same extent: and the north side shall be bounded with the like limits. And the cities shall be in the midst, and the suburbs without.	5 Misurate adunque fuor della città duemila cubiti, per lo lato orientale, e duemila cubiti, per lo lato meridionale, e duemila cubiti, per lo lato occidentale, e duemila cubiti, per lo lato settentrionale, e sia la città nel mezzo. Questo sia loro lo spazio de’ contorni di quelle città.
6 And among the cities, which you shall give to the Levites, six shall be separated for refuge to fugitives, that he who hath shed blood may flee to them: and besides these there shall be other forty-two cities,	6 E quant’è alle città, che voi darete a’ Leviti, sienvi imprima le sei città di rifugio, le quali voi costituirete, acciocchè chi avrà ucciso alcuno vi si rifugga; e a quelle sopraggiugnetene quarantadue altre.
7 That is, in all forty-eight with their suburbs.	7 Tutte le città, che voi darete a’ Leviti, sieno quarantotto città, insieme co’ lor contorni.
8 And of these cities which shall be given out of the possessions of the children of Israel, from them that have more, more shall be taken: and from them that have less, fewer. Each shall give towns to the Levites according to the extent of their inheritance.	8 E di queste città, che voi darete a’ Leviti, dell’eredità dei figliuoli d’Israele, datene più, della tribù che sarà più grande; e meno, di quella che sarà più piccola. Ciascuna tribù dia delle sue città a’ Leviti, a ragion della sua eredità ch’ella possederà
9 The Lord said to Moses:	9 Poi il Signore parlò a Mosè, dicendo:
10 Speak to the children of Israel, and thou shalt say to them: When you shall have passed over the Jordan into the land of Chanaan,	10 Parla a’ figliuoli d’Israele, e di’ loro: Quando voi sarete passati il Giordano, e sarete entrati nel paese di Canaan,
11 Determine what cities shall be for the refuge of fugitives, who have shed blood against their will.	11 assegnate fra voi delle città di rifugio, nelle quali l’ucciditore, che avrà percossa a morte alcuna persona disavvedutamente, si rifugga.
12 And when the fugitive shall be in them, the kinsman of him that is slain may not have power to kill him, until he stand before the multitude, and his cause be judged.	12 E quelle città vi saranno per rifugio d’innanzi a colui che ha la ragione di vendicare il sangue; acciocchè l’ucciditore non muoia, finchè non sia comparito in giudicio davanti alla raunanza.
13 And of those cities, that are separated for the refuge of fugitives,	13 Di quelle città adunque, che voi darete a’ Leviti, sienvene sei di rifugio.
14 Three shall be beyond the Jordan, and three in the land of Chanaan,	14 Assegnate tre di quelle città di qua dal Giordano; e tre altre, nel paese di Canaan, per esser città di rifugio.
15 As well for the children of Israel as for strangers and sojourners, that he may flee to them, who hath shed blood against his will.	15 Sieno queste sei città per rifugio, a’ figliuoli d’Israele, a’ forestieri, e agli avveniticci che saranno fra loro; acciocchè vi si rifugga chiunque avrà percossa a morte alcuna persona disavvedutamente.
16 If any man strike with iron, and he die that was struck : he shall be guilty of murder, and he himself shall die.	16 Ora, se alcuno percuote un altro con alcuno strumento di ferro, colui è micidiale; del tutto facciasi morire quel micidiale.
17 If he throw a stone, and he that is struck die: he shall be punished in the same manner.	17 Parimente, se lo percuote con una pietra da mano della qual possa morire, ed esso muore, egli è micidiale; del tutto facciasi morire quel micidiale.
18 If he that is struck with wood die: he shall be revenged by the blood of him that struck him.	18 Simigliantemente, se lo percuote con uno strumento di legno da mano, del quale egli possa morire, ed esso muore, egli è micidiale; del tutto facciasi morire quel micidiale.
19 The kinsman of him that was slain, shall kill the murderer: as soon as he apprehendeth him, he shall kill him.	19 Colui che ha la ragione di vendicare il sangue faccia morire quel micidiale; quando lo scontrerà egli stesso lo potrà uccidere.
20 If through hatred any one push a man, or fling any thingat him with ill design:	20 Così ancora se lo spinge per odio, o gli gitta contro alcuna cosa apposta, onde sia morto;
21 Or being his enemy, strike; him with his hand, and he die: the striker shall be guilty of murder: the kinsman of him that was slain as soon as he findeth him, shall kill him.	21 ovvero per nimicizia lo percuote con la mano, ed esso muore, del tutto sia il percotitore fatto morire; egli è micidiale; colui che ha la ragione di vendicare il sangue potrà uccidere quel micidiale, quando lo scontrerà.
22 But if by chance medley, and without hatred,	22 Ma, s’egli lo spinge, o gli gitta contro impensatamente, senza nimicizia, qualche strumento, ma non apposta;
23 And enmity, he do any of these things,	23 ovvero, senza averlo veduto, gli fa cadere addosso alcuna pietra, della quale egli possa morire, ed esso muore, senza che gli fosse nimico, o procacciasse il suo male;
24 And this be proved in the hearing of the people, and the cause be debated between him that struck, and the next of kin:	24 allora giudichi la raunanza fra il percotitore, e colui che ha la ragion di vendicare il sangue, secondo queste leggi;
25 The innocent shall be delivered from the hand of the revenger, and shall be brought back by sentence into the city, to which he had fled, and he shall abide there until the death of the high priest, that is anointed with the holy oil.	25 e riscuota l’ucciditore dalle mani di colui che ha la ragione di vendicare il sangue, e faccialo ritornare alla città del suo rifugio, ove si era rifuggito; e dimori egli quivi, fino alla morte del sommo Sacerdote, il qual sarà stato unto con l’olio santo.
26 If the murderer be found without the limits of the cities that are appointed for the banished,	26 Ma, se pur l’ucciditore esce fuor de’ confini della città del suo rifugio, ove egli si sarà rifuggito;
27 And be struck by him that is the avenger of blood: he shall not be guilty that killed him.	27 e colui che ha la ragione di vendicare il sangue, trovandolo fuor de’ confini della città del suo rifugio, l’uccide; egli non è colpevole d’omicidio.
28 For the fugitive ought to have stayed in the city until the death of the high priest: and after he is dead, then shall the manslayer return to his own country.	28 Perciocchè colui ha da star nella città del suo rifugio, fino alla morte del sommo Sacerdote; e dopo la morte del sommo Sacerdote, l’ucciditore potrà ritornare alla terra della sua possessione.
29 These things shall be perpetual, and for an ordinance in all your dwellings.	29 Sienvi adunque queste cose per istatuto di legge, per le vostre generazioni, in tutte le vostre stanze.
30 The murderer shall be punished by witnesses: none shall be condemned upon the evidence of one man.	30 Quando alcuno avrà percossa a morte una persona, sia quel micidiale ucciso, in sul dire di più testimoni; ma non possa un solo testimonio render testimonianza contro a una persona a morte.
31 You shall not take money of him that is guilty of blood, but he shall die forthwith.	31 E non prendete prezzo di riscatto per la vita dell’ucciditore, il quale è colpevole, e degno di morte; anzi del tutto sia fatto morire.
32 The banished and fugitives before the death of the high priest may by no means return into their own cities.	32 Parimente non prendete alcun prezzo, per lasciar rifuggire alcuno alla città del suo rifugio; nè per ritornare a dimorar nel paese avanti la morte del Sacerdote.
33 Defile not the land of your habitation, which is stained with the blood of the innocent: neither can it otherwise be expiated, but by his blood that hath shed the blood of another.	33 E non profanate il paese, nel quale voi abiterete; conciossiachè il sangue profani il paese; e il paese non può esser purgato del sangue, che sarà stato sparso in esso, se non col sangue di chi l’avrà sparso.
34 And thus shall your possession he cleansed, myself abiding with you. For I am the Lord that dwell among the children of Israel.	34 Non profanate adunque il paese, nel quale voi dimorerete, in mezzo del quale io abiterò; perciocchè io sono il Signore, che abito per mezzo i figliuoli d’Israele
