DOUAI-RHEIMS	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Watching for riches consumeth the flesh, and the thought thereof driveth away sleep.	1 La vigilia della onestade macererae le carni; e il pensiero di lei toglie il sonno.
2 The thinking beforehand turneth away the understanding, and a grievous sickness maketh the soul sober.	2 Il pensiero della prescienza stravolge il senno; e la grande infermitade fece l'anima sobria (e ricordarsi di Dio).
3 The rich man hath laboured in gathering riches together, and when he resteth he shall be filled with his goods.	3 Affaticossi il ricco in radunare avere; nell'ozio suo riempierae di beni (temporali).
4 The poor man hath laboured in his low way of life, and in the end he is still poor.	4 Affaticossi il povero nella diminuzione del mangiare (e bere e vestire), e nella fine sarà bisognoso.
5 He that loveth gold, shall not be justified: and he that followeth after corruption, shall be filled with it.	5 Colui che ama oro, non sarà giustificato; e colui che sèguita il consumamento, si niempierà, di quello.
6 Many have been brought to fall for gold, and the beauty thereof hath been their ruin.	6 Molti sono dati nelli cadimenti dell' oro; e nella speranza dell' oro si è fatto il perdimento loro.
7 Gold is a stumblingblock to them that sacrifice to it: woe to them that eagerly follow after it, and every fool shall perish by it.	7 Legno d' offensione sì è sacrificare oro; guai a coloro che il sèguitano, e ciascuno [imprudente] perirà in quello.
8 Blessed is the rich man that is found without blemish: and that hath not gone after gold, nor put his trust in money nor in treasures.	8 Beato è il ricco che è trovato sanza macula, e che non andoe dietro all' oro, e che non speroe nelli tesori della pecunia.
9 Who is he, and we will praise him? for he hath done wonderful things in his life.	9 Chi è costui, e loderemo lui? però ch' egli fece maraviglie in sua vita.
10 Who hath been tried thereby, and made perfect, he shall have glory everlasting. He that could have transgressed, and hath not transgressed: and could do evil things, and hath not done them:	10 Chi è stato provato in quello, è stato trovato perfetto, e sarà lui in gloria eterna; chi potee travalicare, e non travalicoe (i comandamenti di Dio), e potè fare male, e non lo fece.
11 Therefore are his goods established in the Lord, and all the church of the saints shall declare his alms.	11 Però li beni suoi sono stabiliti nel Signore, e ogni chiesa di santi parlerae le limosine di colui.
12 Art thou set at a great table? be not the first to open thy mouth upon it.	12 Sedesti alla grande mensa? non essere il primo che apra la bocca sopra quella.
13 Say not: There are many things which are upon it.	13 Non dire che le cose, che sono sopra quella, sono sì molte.
14 Remember that a wicked eye is evil.	14 Ricorditi che l'occhio reo è malvagio.
15 What is created more wicked than an eye? therefore shall it weep over all the face when it shall see.	15 Quale cosa è più rea che l' occhio (malvagio)? però (che) da ogni faccia lacrimerae, quand' egli vederà.
16 Stretch not out thy hand first, lest being disgraced with envy thou be put to confusion.	16 Non sarai tu primo a stendere la mano, ne poi per invidia contaminato tu ti vergogni.
17 Be not hasty in a feast.	17 Non essere oppresso nel convito (dal vino).
18 Judge of the disposition of thy neighbour by thyself.	18 Considera le cose del prossimo tuo da te medesimo.
19 Use as a frugal man the things that are set before thee: lest if thou eatest much, thou be hated.	19 Usa quelle cose che ti sono messe inanzi, sì come uomo deve usare; e non divorare, acciò che tu non sii molto odiato.
20 Leave off first, for manners' sake: and exceed not, lest thou offend.	20 Resta prima per cagione di disciplina; e non essere troppo lungo (mangiatore), acciò che tu non offenda alli altri.
21 ,21And if thou sittest among many, reach not thy hand out first of all: and be not the first to ask for drink.	21 E se tu sedesti nel mezzo di molti, non istendere tu prima che coloro la mano, e non domandare tu prima bere.
22 How sufficient is a little wine for a man well taught, and in sleeping thou shalt not be uneasy with it, and thou shalt feel no pain.	22 Oh come poco vino basta all' uomo ammaestrato! e non sarai gravato dormendo da quello (uno poco), e non sentirai dolore.
23 Watching, and choler, and gripes, are with an intemperate man:	23 Vigilia é collera e tortura nel sonno all' uomo sfrenato;
24 Sound and wholesome sleep with a moderate man: he shall sleep till morning, and his soul shall be delighted with him.	24 lo sonno della sanità sarà nell' uomo temperato; elli dormirà infino alla mattina, e l'anima sua diletterassi con lui.
25 And if thou hast been forced to eat much, arise, go out, and vomit: and it shall refresh thee, and thou shalt not bring sickness upon thy body.	25 E se tu sarai costretto pure un dì di molto mangiare, lièvati di mezzo di loro, getta fuori, e refrigera il corpo tuo; e non accumulerai al corpo tuo infermitadi.
26 Hear me, my son, and despise me not: and in the end thou shalt find my words.	26 Odimi, figliuolo, e non mi dispregiare; e in fine troverai le parole mie vere.
27 In all thy works be quick, and no infirmity shall come to thee.	27 Sia veloce in tutte le (buone) opere tue, e nulla infirmità ti si farà incontro.
28 The lips of many shall bless him that is liberal of his bread, and the testimony of his truth is faithful.	28 Le lingue di molti benediceranno colui che sarà splendente nel pane; e ...
29 Against him that is niggardly of his bread, the city will murmur, and the testimony of his niggardliness is true.	29 ... e la testimonianza di colui (della malizia) sarà vera.
30 Challenge not them that love wine: for wine hath destroyed very many.	30 Non provocare coloro che sono solleciti al vino; però che il vino molti ne stermina.
31 Fire trieth hard iron: so wine drunk to excess shall rebuke the hearts of the proud.	31 Sì come il fuoco prova il duro ferro, così il vino bevuto in ebbrezza batte li cuori de' superbi.
32 Wine taken with sobriety is equal lire to men: if thou drink it moderately, thou shalt be sober.	32 Ben complessionata vita è alli uomini bere il vino temperatamente; se tu il berai temperatamente, sarai sobrio.
33 What is his life, who is diminished with wine?	33 Che vita è quella che si diminuisce per lo vino?
34 What taketh away life? death.	34 Che è quello che defrauda la vita? la morte.
35 Wine was created from the beginning to make men joyful, and not to make them drunk.	35 Dal cominciamento fu creato il vino per allegrare, non per inebriare.
36 Wine drunken with moderation is the joy of the soul and the heart.	36 Il vino bevuto temperatamente sì allegra l'anima e il corpo.
37 Sober drinking is health to soul and body.	37 Il temperato bere sì è sanitade dell' anima e del corpo.
38 Wine drunken with excess raiseth quarrels; and wrath, and many ruins.	38 Il vino molto bevuto fae commovimento e ira e rovine molte.
39 Wine drunken with excess is bitterness of the soul.	39 Il molto bere è amaritudine dell' anima.
40 The heat of drunkenness is the stumblingblock of the fool, lessening strength and causing wounds.	40 La animosità della ebrietà, dello imprudente (e dello sciocco) è offensione, scemante la forza, e che fa ferite.
41 Rebuke not thy neighbour in a banquet of wine: and despise him not in hip mirth.	41 Nel convito del vino non riprendere il prossimo, e nella gioconditade sua nollo dispregiare.
42 Speak not to him words of reproach: and press him not in demanding again.	42 E non li dire parole di reo uomo, e non lo stringere in ripetere.
