1 How much better is it to reprove, than to be angry, and not to hinder him that confesseth in prayer.	1 C'è un rimprovero che è fuori tempo, c'è chi tace ed è prudente.
2 The lust of an eunuch shall devour a young maiden:	2 Quanto è meglio rimproverare che covare l'ira!
3 So is he that by violence executeth unjust judgment.	3 Chi si confessa colpevole evita l'umiliazione.
4 How good is it, when thou art reproved, to shew repentance! for so thou shalt escape wilful sin.	4 Un eunuco che vuol deflorare una ragazza, così chi vuol rendere giustizia con la violenza.
5 There is one that holdeth his peace, that is found wise: and there is another that is hateful, that is bold in speech.	5 C'è chi tace ed è ritenuto saggio, e c'è chi è odiato per la sua loquacità.
6 There is one that holdeth his peace, because he knoweth not what to say: and there is another that holdeth his peace, knowing the proper time.	6 C'è chi tace, perché non sa che cosa rispondere, e c'è chi tace, perché conosce il momento propizio.
7 A wise man will hold his peace till he see opportunity: but a babbler, and a fool, will regard no time.	7 L'uomo saggio sta zitto fino al momento opportuno, il millantatore e lo stolto lo trascurano.
8 He that useth many words shall hurt his own soul: and he that taketh authority to himself unjustly shall be hated.	8 Chi abbonda nel parlare si renderà abominevole; chi vuole assolutamente imporsi sarà odiato.
9 There is success in evil things to a man without discipline, and there is a finding that turneth to loss.	9 Nelle disgrazie può trovarsi la fortuna per un uomo, mentre un profitto può essere una perdita.
10 There is a gift that is not profitable: and there is a gift, the recompense of which is double.	10 C'è una generosità, che non ti arreca vantaggi e c'è chi dall'umiliazione alza la testa.
11 There is an abasement because of glory: and there is one that shall lift up his head from a low estate.	11 .
12 There is that buyeth much for a small price, and restoreth the same sevenfold.	12 C'è chi compra molte cose con poco, e chi le paga sette volte il loro valore.
13 A man wise in words shall make himself beloved: but the graces of fools shall be poured out.	13 Il saggio si rende amabile con le sue parole, le cortesie degli stolti sono sciupate.
14 The gift of the fool shall do thee no good: for his eyes are sevenfold.	14 Il dono di uno stolto non ti gioverà, perché i suoi occhi bramano ricevere più di quanto ha dato.
15 He will give a few things, and upbraid much: and the opening of his mouth is the kindling of a fire.	15 Egli darà poco, ma rinfaccerà molto; aprirà la sua bocca come un banditore. Oggi darà un prestito e domani richiederà; uomo odioso è costui.
16 To day a man lendeth, and to morrow he asketh it again: such a man as this is hateful.	16 Lo stolto dice: "Non ho un amico, non c'è gratitudine per i miei benefici.
17 A fool shall have no friend, and there shall be no thanks for his good deeds.	17 Quelli che mangiano il mio pane sono lingue cattive". Quanto spesso e quanti si burleranno di lui!
18 For they that eat his bread, are of a false tongue. How often, and how many will laugh him to scorn!	18 Meglio scivolare sul pavimento che con la lingua; per questo la caduta dei cattivi giunge rapida.
19 For he doth not distribute with right understanding that which was to be had: in like manner also that which was not to be had.	19 Un uomo senza grazia è un discorso inopportuno: è sempre sulla bocca dei maleducati.
20 The slipping of a false tongue is as one that falleth on the pavement: so the fall of the wicked shall come speedily.	20 Non si accetta una massima dalla bocca dello stolto, perché non è mai detta a proposito.
21 A man without grace is as a vain fable, it shall be continually in the mouth of the unwise.	21 C'è chi è impedito di peccare dalla miseria e durante il riposo non avrà rimorsi.
22 A parable coming out, of a fool's mouth shall be rejected: for he doth not speak it in due season.	22 C'è chi si rovina per rispetto umano e si rovina per la faccia di uno stolto.
23 There is that is hindered from sinning through want, and in his rest he shall be pricked.	23 C'è chi per rispetto umano fa promesse a un amico; in tal modo se lo rende gratuitamente nemico.
24 There is that will destroy his own soul through shamefacedness, and by occasion of an unwise person he will destroy it: and by respect of person he will destroy himself.	24 Brutta macchia nell'uomo la menzogna, si trova sempre sulla bocca degli ignoranti.
25 There is that for bashfulness promiseth to his friend, and maketh him his enemy for nothing.	25 Meglio un ladro che un mentitore abituale, ma tutti e due condivideranno la rovina.
26 A lie is a foul blot in a man, and yet it will be continually in the mouth of men without discipline.	26 L'abitudine del bugiardo è un disonore, la vergogna lo accompagnerà sempre.
27 A thief is better than a man that is always lying: but both of them shall inherit destruction.	27 Il saggio si fa onore con i discorsi, l'uomo prudente piace ai grandi.
28 The manners of lying men are without honour: and their confusion is with them without ceasing.	28 Chi lavora la terra accrescerà il raccolto; chi piace ai grandi si fa perdonare l'ingiustizia.
29 A wise man shall advance himself with his words, and a prudent man shall please the great ones.	29 Regali e doni accecano gli occhi dei saggi, come bavaglio sulla bocca, soffocano i rimproveri.
30 He that tilleth his land shall make a high heap of corn: and he that worketh justice shall be exalted: and he that pleaseth great men shall escape iniquity.	30 Sapienza nascosta e tesoro invisibile: a che servono l'una e l'altro?
31 Presents and gifts blind the eyes of judges, and make them dumb in the mouth, so that they cannot correct.	31 Fa meglio chi nasconde la stoltezza che colui che nasconde la sapienza.
32 Wisdom that is hid, and treasure that is not seen: what profit is there in them both?
33 Better is he that hideth his folly, than the man that hideth his wisdom.
