Proverbs 17

1 Better is a dry morsel with joy, than a house full of victims with strife.	1 Καλητερον ξηρον ψωμιον και ειρηνη μετ' αυτου, παρα οικον πληρη θυματων μετα εριδος.
2 A wise servant shall rule over foolish sons, and shall divide the inheritance among the brethren.	2 Ο φρονιμος υπηρετης θελει εξουσιαζει επι υιου αισχυνης και θελει συμμοιρασθη την κληρονομιαν μεταξυ αδελφων.
3 As silver is tried by fire, and gold in the furnace: so the Lord trieth the hearts.	3 Το χωνευτηριον δοκιμαζει τον αργυρον και η καμινος τον χρυσον, ο δε Κυριος τας καρδιας.
4 The evil man obeyeth an unjust tongue: and the deceitful hearkeneth to lying lips.	4 Ο κακοποιος υπακουει εις τα ανομα χειλη? ο ψευστης διδει ακροασιν εις την κακην γλωσσαν.
5 He that despiseth the poor, reproacheth his Maker; and he that rejoiceth at another man's ruin, shall not be unpunished.	5 Οστις περιγελα τον πτωχον, ονειδιζει τον Ποιητην αυτου? οστις χαιρει εις συμφορας, δεν θελει μεινει ατιμωρητος.
6 Children's children are the crown of old men: and the glory of children are their fathers.	6 Τεκνα τεκνων ειναι ο στεφανος των γεροντων? και η δοξα των τεκνων οι πατερες αυτων.
7 Eloquent words do not become a fool, nor lying lips a prince.	7 Χειλη υπεροχης δεν αρμοζουσιν εις τον αφρονα? πολυ ολιγωτερον χειλη ψευδους εις τον αρχοντα.
8 The expectation of him that expecteth, is a most acceptable jewel: whithersoever he turneth himself, he understandeth wisely.	8 Το δωρον ειναι ως λιθος πολυτιμος εις τους οφθαλμους του δωροδοκουμενου? οπου τουτο εμφανισθη, κατορθονει.
9 He that concealeth a transgression. seeketh friendships: he that repeateth it again, separateth friends.	9 Οστις κρυπτει παραβασιν, ζητει φιλιαν? αλλ' οστις επαναλεγει το πραγμα, χωριζει τους στενωτερους φιλους.
10 A reproof availeth more with a wise man, than a hundred stripes with a fool.	10 Περισσοτερον τυπτει ο ελεγχος τον φρονιμον, παρα εκατον μαστιγωσεις τον αφρονα.
11 An evil man always seeketh quarrels: but a cruel angel shall be sent against him.	11 Ο κακος ζητει μονον στασεις? δια τουτο αγγελος σκληρος θελει πεμφθη κατ' αυτου.
12 It is better to meet a bear robbed of her whelps, than a fool trusting in his own folly.	12 Ας απαντηση τον ανθρωπον αρκτος στερηθεισα των τεκνων αυτης και ουχι αφρων εν τη μωρια αυτου.
13 He that rendereth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.	13 Οστις αποδιδει κακον αντι καλου, κακον δεν θελει αναχωρησει απο του οικου αυτου.
14 The beginning of quarrels is as when one letteth out water: before he suffereth reproach he forsaketh judgment.	14 Οστις αρχιζει φιλονεικιαν, ειναι ως ο εκφραττων υδατα? οθεν παυσον απο της φιλονεικιας πριν εξαφθη.
15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, both are abominable before God.	15 Ο δικαιονων τον ασεβη και ο καταδικαζων τον δικαιον, αμφοτεροι ειναι βδελυγμα εις τον Κυριον.
16 What doth it avail a fool to have riches, seeing he cannot buy wisdom? He that maketh his house high, seeketh a downfall: and he that refuseth to learn, shall fall into evils.	16 Τι χρησιμευουσι τα χρηματα εις την χειρα του αφρονος, δια να αγοραση σοφιαν, αφου δεν εχει γνωσιν;
17 He that is a friend loveth at all times: and a brother is proved in distress.	17 Εν παντι καιρω αγαπα ο φιλος, και ο αδελφος γενναται δια καιρον αναγκης.
18 A foolish man will clap hands, when he is surety for his friend.	18 Ανθρωπος ενδεης φρενων διδει χειρα και εγγυαται δια τον φιλον αυτου.
19 He that studieth discords, loveth quarrels: and he that exalteth his door, seeketh ruin.	19 Ο αγαπων εριδας αγαπα αμαρτηματα? ο υπερυψονων την πυλην αυτου ζητει ολεθρον.
20 He that is of a perverse heart, shall not find good: and he that perverteth his tongue, shall fall into evil.	20 Ο σκολιος την καρδιαν δεν ευρισκει καλον? και ο διεστραμμενος την γλωσσαν αυτου πιπτει εις συμφοραν.
21 A fool is born to his own disgrace: and even his father shall not rejoice in a fool.	21 Οστις γεννα αφρονα, γεννα αυτον δια λυπην αυτου? και ο πατηρ του ανοητου δεν απολαμβανει χαραν.
22 A joyful mind maketh age flourishing: a sorrowful spirit drieth up the bones.	22 Η ευφραινομενη καρδια διδει ευεξιαν ως ιατρικον? το δε κατατεθλιμμενον πνευμα ξηραινει τα οστα.
23 The wicked man taketh gifts out of the bosom, that he may pervert the paths of judgment.	23 Ο ασεβης δεχεται δωρον απο του κολπου, δια να διαστρεψη τας οδους της κρισεως.
24 Wisdom shineth in the face of the wise: the eyes of fools are in the ends of the earth.	24 Επι του προσωπου του συνετου ειναι σοφια? αλλ' οι οφθαλμοι του αφρονος βλεπουσιν εις τα ακρα της γης.
25 A foolish son is the anger of the father: and the sorrow of the mother that bore him.	25 Ο αφρων υιος ειναι βαρυθυμια εις τον πατερα αυτου και πικρια εις την γεννησασαν αυτον.
26 It is no good thing to do hurt to the just: nor to strike the prince, who judgeth right.	26 Δεν ειναι ποτε καλον να επιβαλληται ποινη εις τον δικαιον, να επιβουλευηται τις τους αρχοντας δια την ευθυτητα αυτων.
27 He that setteth bounds to his words. is knowing and wise: and the man of understanding is of a precious spirit.	27 Ο κρατων τους λογους αυτου ειναι γνωστικος? ο μακροθυμος ανθρωπος ειναι φρονιμος.
28 Even a fool, if he will hold his peace shall be counted wise: and if he close his lips, a man of understanding.	28 Και αυτος ο αφρων, οταν σιωπα λογιζεται σοφος? και ο κλειων τα χειλη αυτου, συνετος.
