1 And the Lord said to Moses: Go in to Pharao; for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants: that I may work these my signs in him.	1 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Va trouver Pharaon car c'est moi qui ai appesanti son coeur et le coeur de sesserviteurs afin d'opérer mes signes au milieu d'eux,
2 And thou mayest tell in the ears of thy sons, and of they grandsons, how often I have plagued the Egyptians, and wrought my signs amongst them: and you may know that I am the Lord:	2 pour que tu puisses raconter à ton fils et au fils de ton fils comment je me suis joué des Egyptiens etquels signes j'ai opérés parmi eux, et que vous sachiez que je suis Yahvé."
3 Therefore Moses and Aaron went in to Pharao, and said to him: Thus saith the Lord God of the Hebrews: How long refusest thou to submit to me? let my people go, to sacrifice to me.	3 Moïse et Aaron allèrent trouver Pharaon et lui dirent: "Ainsi parle Yahvé le Dieu des Hébreux:Jusqu'à quand refuseras-tu de t'humilier devant moi? Laisse partir mon peuple, qu'il me serve.
4 But if thou resist, and wilt not let them go, behold I will bring in to morrow the locust into thy coasts:	4 Si tu refuses de laisser partir mon peuple, dès demain je ferai venir des sauterelles sur ton territoire.
5 To cover the face of the earth that nothing thereof may appear, but that which the hail hath left may be eaten: for they shall feed upon all the trees that spring in the fields.	5 Elles couvriront la surface du sol et l'on ne pourra plus voir le sol. Elles dévoreront le reste de ce quia échappé, ce que vous a laissé la grêle; elles dévoreront tous vos arbres qui croissent dans les champs.
6 And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of thy servants, and of all the Egyptians: such a number as thy fathers have not seen, nor thy grandfathers, from the time they were first upon the earth, until this present day. And he turned himself away, and went forth from Pharao.	6 Elles rempliront tes maisons, les maisons de tous tes serviteurs et les maisons de tous les Egyptiens,ce que tes pères et les pères de tes pères n'ont jamais vu, depuis le jour où ils sont venus sur terre, jusqu'à cejour." Puis il se retourna et sortit de chez Pharaon.
7 And Pharao's servants said to him: How long shall we endure this scandal? let the men go to sacrifice to the Lord their God. Dost thou not see that Egypt is undone?	7 Les serviteurs de Pharaon lui dirent: "Jusqu'à quand celui-ci nous sera-t-il un piège? Laisse partirces gens, qu'ils servent Yahvé leur Dieu. Ne sais-tu pas encore que l'Egypte va à sa ruine?"
8 And they called back Moses and Aaron to Pharao: and he said to them: Go, sacrifice to the Lord your God: who are they that shall go?	8 On fit revenir Moïse et Aaron auprès de Pharaon qui leur dit: "Allez servir Yahvé votre Dieu, maisqui sont ceux qui vont s'en aller?"
9 Moses said: We will go with our young and old, with our sons and daughters, with our sheep and herds: for it is the solemnity of the Lord our God.	9 Moïse répondit: "Nous emmènerons nos jeunes gens et nos vieillards, nous emmènerons nos fils etnos filles, notre petit et notre gros bétail, car c'est pour nous une fête de Yahvé."
10 And Pharao answered: So be the Lord with you, as I shall let you and your children go: who can doubt but that you intend some great evil?	10 Pharaon dit: "Que Yahvé soit avec vous comme je vais vous laisser partir, vous, vos femmes et vosenfants! Voyez comme vous avez de mauvais desseins!
11 It shall not be so: but go ye men only, and sacrifice to the Lord: for this yourselves also desired. And immediately they were cast out from Pharao's presence.	11 Non! Allez, vous, les hommes, servir Yahvé, puisque c'est là ce que vous demandez." Et on lesexpulsa de la présence de Pharaon.
12 And the Lord said to Moses: Stretch forth thy hand upon the land of Egypt unto the locust, that it may come upon it, and devour every herb that is left after the hail.	12 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Etends ta main sur le pays d'Egypte pour que viennent les sauterelles; qu'ellesmontent sur le pays d'Egypte et qu'elles dévorent toute l'herbe du pays, tout ce qu'a épargné la grêle."
13 And Moses stretched forth his rod upon the land of Egypt: and the Lord brought a burning wind all that day, and night: and when it was morning, the burning wind raised the locusts:	13 Moïse étendit son bâton sur le pays d'Egypte, et Yahvé fit lever sur le pays un vent d'est qui soufflatout ce jour-là et toute la nuit. Le matin venu, le vent d'est avait apporté les sauterelles.
14 And they came up over the whole land of Egypt: and rested in all the coasts of the Egyptians innumerable, the like as had not been before that time, nor shall be hereafter.	14 Les sauterelles montèrent sur tout le pays d'Egypte, elles se posèrent sur tout le territoire del'Egypte en très grand nombre. Auparavant il n'y avait jamais eu autant de sauterelles, et par la suite il ne devaitjamais plus y en avoir autant.
15 And they covered the whole face of the earth, wasting all things. And the grass of the earth was devoured, and what fruits soever were on the trees, which the hail had left: and there remained not any thing that was green on the trees, or in the herbs of the earth in all Egypt.	15 Elles couvrirent toute la surface du pays et le pays fut dévasté. Elles dévorèrent toute l'herbe dupays et tous les fruits des arbres qu'avait laissés la grêle; rien de vert ne resta sur les arbres ou sur l'herbe deschamps, dans tout le pays d'Egypte.
16 Wherefore Pharao in haste called Moses and Aaron, and said to them: I have sinned against the Lord your God, and against you.	16 Pharaon se hâta d'appeler Moïse et Aaron et dit: "J'ai péché contre Yahvé votre Dieu et contrevous.
17 But now forgive me my sin this time also, and pray to the Lord your God, that he take away from me this death.	17 Et maintenant pardonne-moi ma faute, je t'en prie, cette fois seulement, et priez Yahvé votre Dieuqu'il détourne de moi ce fléau meurtrier."
18 And Moses going forth from the presence of Pharao, prayed to the Lord.	18 Moïse sortit de chez Pharaon et pria Yahvé.
19 And he made a very strong wind to blow from the west, and it took the locusts and cast them into the Red Sea: there remained not so much as one in all the coasts of Egypt.	19 Yahvé changea le vent en un vent d'ouest très fort qui emporta les sauterelles et les entraîna vers lamer des Roseaux. Il ne resta plus une seule sauterelle dans tout le territoire d'Egypte.
20 And the Lord hardened Pharao's heart, neither did he let the children of Israel go.	20 Mais Yahvé endurcit le coeur de Pharaon et il ne laissa pas partir les Israélites.
21 And the Lord said to Moses: Stretch out they hand towards heaven: and may there be darkness upon the land of Egypt, so thick that it may be felt.	21 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Etends ta main vers le ciel et que des ténèbres palpables recouvrent le paysd'Egypte."
22 And Moses stretch forth his hand towards heaven: and there came horrible darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.	22 Moïse étendit la main vers le ciel et il y eut d'épaisses ténèbres sur tout le pays d'Egypte pendanttrois jours.
23 No man saw his brother, nor moved himself out of the place where he was: but wheresoever the children of Israel dwelt there was light.	23 Les gens ne se voyaient plus l'un l'autre et personne ne se leva de sa place pendant trois jours, maistous les Israélites avaient de la lumière là où ils habitaient.
24 And Pharao called Moses and Aaron, and said to them: Go sacrifice to the Lord: let your sheep only, and herds remain; let your children go with you.	24 Pharaon appela Moïse et lui dit: "Allez servir Yahvé, mais votre petit et votre gros bétail devrarester ici. Même vos femmes et vos enfants pourront aller avec vous."
25 Moses said: Thou shalt give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, to the Lord our God.	25 Moïse dit: "Tu dois toi-même mettre à notre disposition des sacrifices et des holocaustes pour quenous les offrions à Yahvé notre Dieu.
26 All the flocks shall go with us: there shall not a hoof remain of them: for they are necessary for the service of the Lord our God: especially as we know not what must be offered, till we come to the very place.	26 Même nos troupeaux viendront avec nous, pas une tête ne restera, car c'est d'eux que nousprendrons de quoi servir Yahvé notre Dieu; et nous-mêmes, jusqu'à notre arrivée là-bas, nous ne sauronscomment servir Yahvé."
27 And the Lord hardened Pharao's heart, and he would not let them go.	27 Mais Yahvé endurcit le coeur de Pharaon et il ne voulut pas les laisser partir.
28 And Pharao said to Moses: Get thee from me, and beware thou see not my face any more: in what day soever thou shalt come in my sight, thou shalt die.	28 Pharaon dit à Moïse: "Hors d'ici! Prends garde à toi! ne te présente plus devant moi, car le jour oùtu te présenteras devant moi, tu mourras."
29 Moses answered: So shall it be as thou hast spoken, I will not see thy face any more.	29 Et Moïse dit: "Tu l'as dit, je ne reviendrai plus me présenter devant toi."
