1 On that day king Assuerus gave the house of Aman, the Jews' enemy, to queen Esther, and Mardochai came in before the king. For Esther had confessed to him that he was her uncle.	1 E lo re Assuero diede in quello dì alla regina Ester tutte le case d' Aman nemico de' Giudei; e Mardocheo venne in grazia nel cospetto del re. E allora la regina Ester manifestoe che Mardocheo era suo zio.
2 And the king took the ring which he had commanded to be taken again from Aman, and gave it to Mardochai. And Esther set Mardochai over her house.	2 Lo re (udendo questo, e volendolo onorare) die degli l'anello, lo quale avea dato ad Aman; e la regina lo fece signore della casa sua (e delle cose le quali li avea donate).
3 And not content with these things, she fell down at the king's feet and wept, and speaking to him besought him, that he would give orders that the malice of Aman the Agagite, and his most wicked devices which he had invented against the Jews, should be of no effect.	3 E non essendo contenta la regina, (perciò che voleva più grazia), gittossi ai piedi del re, e piagnendo lui pregava dolcemente, che la malizia e le cose pessime e cogitazioni, che Aman avea nella vita sua ordinate contra i Giudei, dovessero essere casse (e vane).
4 But he, as the manner was, held out the golden sceptre with his hand, which was the sign of clemency: and she arose up and stood before him,	4 Allora lo re (udendola e volendole piacere) pigliò la verga dell' oro con la mano, perciò ch' era segno di benignità; e levossi la regina in piedi.
5 And said: If it please the king, and if I have found favour in his sight, and my request be not disagreeable to him, I beseech thee, that the former letters of Aman the traitor and enemy of the Jews, by which he commanded that they should be destroyed in all the king's provinces, may be reversed by new letters.	5 E disse allo re: se al re piace, e' prieghi miei non li siano a tedio, e se io hoe trovata grazia nel cospetto vostro, pregovi che facciate scrivere incontanente lettere, nelle quali sia il contrario di quelle che mandò Aman, nemico de' Giudei e loro perseguitatore, i quali avea mandati per tutte le provincie, che tutti fossero incontanente morti.
6 For how call I endure the murdering and slaughter of my people?	6 Come potrei io sostenere (per lo perseguitatore) la morte del popolo mio?
7 And king Assuerus answered Esther the queen, and Mardochai the Jew: I have given Aman's house to Esther, and I have commanded him to be hanged on a gibbet, because he durst lay hands on the Jews.	7 Allora rispose lo re Assuero alla regina Ester e a Mardocheo Giudeo, e disse: io feci pigliare Aman, e diedi (e concedetti) alla regina ogni sua sostanza, e lui feci impiccare su la croce, perciò ch' egli mise mano nel popolo Giudeo.
8 Write ye therefore to the Jews, as it pleaseth you, in the king's name, and seal the letters with my ring. For this was the custom, that no man durst gainsay the letters which were sent in the king's name, and were sealed with his ring.	8 Scriverete agli Giudei da mia parte, secondo che voi volete, e col mio sigillo (secreto) sigillate le lettere. E questa era la consuetudine, che le lettere mandate per nome del re, ed erano di questo sigillo sigillate, nessuna persona vi dicesse contra.
9 Then the king's scribes and secretaries were called for (now it was the time of the third month which is called Siban) the three and twentieth day of the month, and letters were written, as Mardochai had a mind, to the Jews, and to the governors, and to the deputies, and to the judges, who were rulers over the hundred and twenty-seven provinces, from India even to Ethiopia: to province and province, to people and people, according to their languages and characters, and to the Jews, according as they could read and hear.	9 Fece venire (la regina Mardocheo e) tutti i scrittori del re; questo fu nel terzo mese che si chiamava Siban (cioè giugno) nel vigesimo terzo dì di quello mese; e furono scritte le lettere, le quali Mardocheo mandò a tutti i Giudei, a' prìncipi e giudici e procuratori, i quali erano in cento ventisette provincie dall' India alla Etiopia; e di provincia in provincia, e di popolo in popolo, dovessero scrivere (di loro lingua, cioè) secondo la loro lingua, sì che i Giudei le potessero leggere e udire.
10 And these letters which were sent in the king's name, were sealed with his ring, and sent by posts: who were to run through all the provinces, to prevent the former letters with new messages.	10 E queste lettere, le quali erano mandate da parte del re, del suo sigillo (secreto) erano sigillate; e furono mandate per corrieri, e quelli andarono ?sì forte, che per ogni provincia furono innanzi a quelli ch' avea mandati Aman.
11 And the king gave orders to them, to speak to the Jews in every city, and to command them to gather themselves together, and to stand for their lives, and to kill and destroy all their enemies with their wives and children and all their houses, and to take their spoil.	11 Nelle lettere (si conteneva, e) comandava il re, che tutti i Giudei in ogni provincia sua si radunassero insieme, e stessero a udire la loro liberazione; e tutti i nimici colle donne e coi figliuoli dovessero uccidere, e le loro case dovessero tutte. guastare.
12 And one day of revenge was appointed through all the provinces, to wit, the thirteenth of the twelfth month Adar.	12 Lo giorno che si doveano raunare (in ogni parte e) per tutte le provincie a fare le vendette loro, sì fu il terzo decimo d: del mese che si chiamava Adar (cioè marzo).
13 And this was the content of the letter, that it should be notified in all lands and peoples that were subject to the empire of king Assuerus, that the Jews were ready to be revenged of their enemies.	13 La sentenza delle lettere fu questa, che in ogni provincia e terra, là dove lo re Assuero avea signoria, fosse manifesto, cioè che tutti i Giudei fossero (nel giorno ordinato) armati, e prendessero vendetta de' loro nimici.
14 So the swift posts went out carrying the messages, and the king's edict was hung up in Susan.	14 E questi corrieri annunciarono per tutte le provincie, come ch' era in queste lettere, [e che] lo re avea fatto porre nella città di Susa e con sigillo pendente, e questo era suo comandamento.
15 And Mardochai going forth out of the palace, and from the king's presence, shone in royal apparel, to wit, of violet and sky colour, wearing a golden crown on his head, and clothed with a cloak of silk and purple. And all the city rejoiced and was glad.	15 Mardocheo era in tanta grazia del re, che l' avea vestito di vestimento regale cremisino e di celestro, e avealo coronato della corona dell' oro (sì come era usanza) e coperto di panno di seta rosato. E udendo questo la gente, che Mardocheo avea tanto onore, tutti si rallegrarono.
16 But to the Jews a new light seemed to rise, joy, honour, and dancing.	16 E a Giudei parea che fosse nata una luce (la quale loro avesse tratto di molte tenebre); e grande letizia, onore e festa
17 And in all peoples, cities, and provinces, whithersoever the king's commandments came, there was wonderful rejoicing, feasts and banquets, and keeping holy day: insomuch that many of other nations and religion, joined themselves to their worship and ceremonies. For a great dread of the name of the Jews had fallen upon all.	17 era a tutte le città e popoli e provincie alle quali venia il comandamento del re; imperciò istavano sempre in giuochi e in allegrezza, e faceano grandi desinari e conviti con grande festa; intanto che (vedendo) molti di altre nazioni si congiunsero alle cerimonie de' Giudei. E udendo i nemici loro fare a' Giudei tanta allegrezza, grande paura a loro entrava (e sospetto).
