1 And Joseph commanded the steward of his house, saying: Fill their sacks with corn, as much as they can hold: and put the money of every one in the top of his sack.	1 Tymczasem [Józef] dał takie polecenie przełożonemu swego domu: Napełnij torby tych ludzi żywnością, ile tylko zdołają unieść, i powkładaj pieniądze na wierzch do torby każdego.
2 And in the mouth of the younger's sack put my silver cup, and the price which he gave for the wheat. And it was so done.	2 Mój zaś puchar srebrny włożysz na wierzch torby najmłodszego oprócz pieniędzy za zboże. [Przełożony] uczynił tak, jak mu Józef rozkazał.
3 And when the morning arose, they were sent away with their asses.	3 O świcie wyprawiono ich wraz z ich osłami w drogę.
4 And when they were now departed out of the city, and had gone forward a little way; Joseph sendingfor the steward of his house, said: Arise, and pursue after the men: and when thou hast overtaken them, say to them: Why have you returned evil for good?	4 Zaledwie jednak wyszli z miasta i jeszcze nie uszli daleko, Józef rzekł do przełożonego domu: Podąż co prędzej za nimi. A gdy ich dogonisz, powiedz im: Czemu odpłaciliście złem za dobro?
5 The cup which you have stolen is that in which my lord drinketh, and in which he is wont to divine: you have done a very evil thing.	5 Wszak "to wy skradliście srebrny puchar", ten, z którego pija pan mój i z którego potrafi wróżyć. Źle postąpiliście, dopuszczając się takiego czynu!
6 He did as he had commanded him. And having overtaken them, he spoke to them the same words.	6 Gdy [ten] dogonił ich i powiedział im to,
7 And they answered: Why doth our lord speak so, as though thy servants had committed so heinous a fact?	7 rzekli: Jak możesz, panie mój, mówić takie rzeczy? Dalekie jest od sług twoich takie postępowanie!
8 The money, that we found in the top of our sacks, we brought back to thee from the land of Chanaan: how then should it be that we should steal out of thy lord's house, gold or silver?	8 Przecież pieniądze, które znaleźliśmy na wierzchu naszych torb, przynieśliśmy ci z Kanaanu. Jakże więc mielibyśmy dopuszczać się kradzieży złota lub srebra w domu twego pana?
9 With whomsoever of thy servants shall be found that which thou seekest, let him die, and we will be the bondmen of my lord.	9 U którego z twoich sług znajdzie się [ów puchar], ten niechaj umrze; my zaś, mój panie, staniemy się twoimi niewolnikami!
10 And he said to them: Let it be according to your sentence: with whomsoever it shall be found, let him be my servant, and you shall be blameless.	10 A on rzekł: Istotnie, powinno tak być, jak mówicie. Jednakże ten, u którego [puchar] się znajdzie, zostanie niewolnikiem, wy zaś będziecie wolni od winy.
11 Them they speedily took down their sacks to the ground, and every man opened his sack.	11 Wtedy pospiesznie każdy z nich zdjął swoją torbę, postawił na ziemię i otworzył ją.
12 Which when he had searched, beginning at the eldest and ending at the youngest, he found the cup in Benjamin's sack.	12 On zaś zaczął przeszukiwać [torby], począwszy od najstarszego, a kończąc na najmłodszym; i w torbie Beniamina znalazł ów puchar.
13 Then they rent their garments, and loading their asses again, returned into the town.	13 Wtedy oni rozdarli z żalu swe szaty i objuczywszy każdy swego osła wrócili do miasta.
14 And Juda at the head of his brethren went in to Joseph, (for he was not yet gone out of the place, ) and they altogether fell down before him on the ground.	14 Gdy Juda oraz jego bracia przyszli do domu Józefa, zastali go tam jeszcze i padli przed nim twarzą ku ziemi.
15 And he said to them: Why would you do so? know you not that there is no one like me in the science of divining.	15 A Józef rzekł do nich: Jak mogliście się dopuścić takiego czynu? Czy nie wiedzieliście, że taki człowiek jak ja potrafi wróżyć?
16 And Juda said to him: What shall we answer my lord? or what shall we say, or be able justly to allege? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants: behold, we are all bondmen to my lord, both we, and he with whom the cup was found.	16 Juda odpowiedział: Cóż mamy rzec tobie, panie mój? Cóż możemy powiedzieć na nasze usprawiedliwienie? Bóg znalazł winę w twoich sługach! Oddajemy się w niewolę tobie, panie mój; zarówno my jak i ten, u którego został znaleziony puchar.
17 Joseph answered: God forbid that should do so: he that stole the cup, he shall be my bondman: and go you away free to your father.	17 Ale Józef rzekł: Jestem daleki od tego, abym miał tak postąpić. Tylko ten, u którego znaleziono puchar, będzie moim niewolnikiem, wy zaś możecie spokojnie odejść do waszego ojca.
18 Then Juda coming hearer, said boldly: I beseech thee, my lord, let thy servant speak a word in thy ears,and be not angry with thy servant: for after Pharao thou art,	18 Juda podszedłszy do niego, rzekł: Pozwól, panie mój, aby twój sługa powiedział słowo wobec ciebie. I nie gniewaj się na twego sługę, wszakżeś ty jak faraon!
19 My lord. Thou didst ask thy servants the first time: Have you a father or a brother?	19 Pytał mój pan swoje sługi: Czy macie ojca lub brata?
20 And we answered thee, my lord: We have a father an old man, and a young boy, that was born in his old age; whose brother by the mother is dead: and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loveth him tenderly.	20 Odpowiedzieliśmy panu mojemu: Mamy starego ojca i jeszcze jednego, najmłodszego brata, zrodzonego przez niego już w starości. Brat tego najmłodszego nie żyje; został on więc jeden z tej samej matki i dlatego ojciec go pokochał.
21 And thou saidst to thy servants: Bring him hither to me, and I will set my eyes on him.	21 Rozkazałeś sługom twoim: Sprowadźcie go do mnie, abym mógł go zobaczyć.
22 We suggested to my lord: The boy cannot leave his father: for if he leave him, he will die.	22 Powiedzieliśmy panu mojemu: Nie może chłopiec opuścić ojca, bo gdyby go opuścił, ojciec by umarł.
23 And thou saidst to thy servants: Except your youngest brother come with you, you shall see my face no more.	23 Wtedy rzekłeś do swych sług: Jeśli nie przyjdzie z wami wasz najmłodszy brat, nie pokazujcie mi się na oczy.
24 Therefore when we were gone up to thy servant our father, we told him all that my lord had said.	24 Gdy więc przyszliśmy do twego sługi, ojca naszego, powtórzyliśmy mu twe słowa, panie.
25 And our father said: Go again, and buy us a little wheat.	25 Potem zaś powiedział nam ojciec: Idźcie znów, aby zakupić dla nas żywności.
26 And we said to him: We cannot go: if our youngest brother go down with us, we will set out together: otherwise, without him we dare not see the man's face.	26 Odpowiedzieliśmy: Nie możemy iść. Pójdziemy tylko wtedy, gdy z nami pójdzie nasz najmłodszy brat. Bo nie możemy pokazać się owemu mężowi, jeśli nie będzie z nami naszego najmłodszego brata.
27 Whereunto he answered: You know that my wife bore two.	27 Wtedy powiedział nam twój sługa, ojciec nasz: Wiecie, że jedna z mych żon urodziła mi dwóch synów.
28 One went out, and you said: A beast devoured him: and hitherto he appeareth not.	28 Jeden - wyszedł ode mnie i wtedy pomyślałem sobie, że został rozszarpany, gdyż więcej go już nie widziałem.
29 If you take this also, and any thing befall him in the way you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow unto hell.	29 Jeżeli i tego drugiego zabierzecie ode mnie i spotka go jakieś nieszczęście, moja siwizna zstąpi do Szeolu wśród niedoli.
30 Therefore if I shall go to thy servant our father, and the boy be wanting, (whereas his life dependeth upon the life of him,)	30 Gdybym więc teraz przyszedł do sługi twego, a mojego ojca, i nie byłoby z nami chłopca tak przez niego umiłowanego,
31 And he shall see that he is not with us, he will die, and thy servants shall bring down his gray hairs with sorrow unto hell.	31 to gdy zobaczy, że go nie ma, umrze. My zaś, słudzy twoi, będziemy przyczyną, że siwizna naszego ojca zstąpi do Szeolu ze zgryzoty.
32 Let me be tht proper servant, who took him into my trust, and promised, saying: If I bring him not again, I will be guilty of sin against my father for ever.	32 Ja, sługa twój, wziąłem na siebie odpowiedzialność za tego chłopca względem ojca mego, mówiąc mu: Jeśli go nie przyprowadzę do ciebie, może mi nigdy mój ojciec nie darować mojej winy.
33 Therefore I thy servant will stay instead of the boy in the service of my lord, and let the boy go up with his brethren.	33 Teraz więc niechaj ja, sługa twój, zostanę zamiast chłopca niewolnikiem pana mego, on zaś niechaj pójdzie ze swymi braćmi.
34 For I cannot return to my father without the boy, lest I be a witness of the calamity that will oppress my father.	34 Bo jakże mógłbym iść do mego ojca, jeśliby nie było go ze mną? Nie chciałbym patrzeć na nieszczęście mego ojca, które by go dotknęło!
