Prima lettera di Giovanni 5

1 OGNUNO che crede che Gesù è il Cristo è nato da Dio; e chiunque ama colui che l’ha generato, ama ancora colui che è stato generato da esso.	1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God, and everyone who loves the father loves (also) the one begotten by him.
2 Per questo conosciamo che amiamo i figliuoli di Dio, quando amiamo Iddio, ed osserviamo i suoi comandamenti.	2 In this way we know that we love the children of God when we love God and obey his commandments.
3 Perciocchè questo è l’amore di Dio, che noi osserviamo i suoi comandamenti; e i suoi comandamenti non sono gravi.	3 For the love of God is this, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome,
4 Poichè tutto quello che è nato da Dio vince il mondo; e questa è la vittoria che ha vinto il mondo, cioè, la fede nostra.	4 for whoever is begotten by God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world is our faith.
5 Chi è colui che vince il mondo, se non colui che crede che Gesù è il Figliuolo di Dio?	5 Who (indeed) is the victor over the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
6 Questi è quel che è venuto con acqua, e sangue, cioè Gesù Cristo; non con acqua solamente, ma con sangue, e con acqua; e lo Spirito è quel che ne rende testimonianza; poichè lo Spirito è la verità.	6 This is the one who came through water and blood, Jesus Christ, not by water alone, but by water and blood. The Spirit is the one that testifies, and the Spirit is truth.
7 Perciocchè tre son quelli che testimoniano nel cielo: il Padre, e la Parola, e lo Spirito Santo; e questi tre sono una stessa cosa.	7 So there are three that testify,
8 Tre ancora son quelli che testimoniano sopra la terra: lo Spirito, e l’acqua, e il sangue; e questi tre si riferiscono a quell’una cosa.	8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood, and the three are of one accord.
9 Se noi riceviamo la testimonianza degli uomini, la testimonianza di Dio è pur maggiore; poichè questa è la testimonianza di Dio, la quale egli ha testimoniata del suo Figliuolo	9 If we accept human testimony, the testimony of God is surely greater. Now the testimony of God is this, that he has testified on behalf of his Son.
10 Chi crede nel Figliuol di Dio, ha quella testimonianza in sè stesso; chi non crede a Dio, lo fa bugiardo; poichè non ha creduto alla testimonianza, che Iddio ha testimoniata intorno al suo Figliuolo.	10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar by not believing the testimony God has given about his Son.
11 E la testimonianza è questa: che Iddio ci ha data la vita eterna, e che questa vita è nel suo Figliuolo.	11 And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 Chi ha il Figliuolo ha la vita; chi non ha il Figliuol di Dio non ha la vita.	12 Whoever possesses the Son has life; whoever does not possess the Son of God does not have life.
13 Io ho scritte queste cose a voi che credete nel nome del Figliuol di Dio acciocchè sappiate che avete la vita eterna, ed acciocchè crediate nel nome del Figliuol di Dio	13 I write these things to you so that you may know that you have eternal life, you who believe in the name of the Son of God.
14 E QUESTA è la confidanza che abbiamo in lui: che se domandiamo alcuna cosa secondo la sua volontà, egli ci esaudisce.	14 And we have this confidence in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
15 E, se sappiamo che qualunque cosa chieggiamo, egli ci esaudisce, noi sappiamo che abbiamo le cose che abbiam richieste da lui.	15 And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, we know that what we have asked him for is ours.
16 Se alcuno vede il suo fratello commetter peccato che non sia a morte, preghi Iddio, ed egli gli donerà la vita, cioè, a quelli che peccano, ma non a morte. Vi è un peccato a morte; per quello io non dico che egli preghi.	16 If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life. This is only for those whose sin is not deadly. There is such a thing as deadly sin, about which I do not say that you should pray.
17 Ogni iniquità è peccato; ma v’è alcun peccato che non è a morte	17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not deadly.
18 Noi sappiamo che chiunque è nato da Dio non pecca; ma chi è nato da Dio conserva sè stesso, e il maligno non lo tocca.	18 We know that no one begotten by God sins; but the one begotten by God he protects, and the evil one cannot touch him.
19 Noi sappiamo che siam da Dio e che tutto il mondo giace nel maligno.	19 We know that we belong to God, and the whole world is under the power of the evil one.
20 Ma noi sappiamo che il Figliuol di Dio è venuto, e ci ha dato intendimento, acciocchè conosciamo colui che è il vero; e noi siamo nel vero, nel suo Figliuol Gesù Cristo; questo è il vero Dio, e la vita eterna.	20 We also know that the Son of God has come and has given us discernment to know the one who is true. And we are in the one who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
21 Figlioletti, guardatevi dagl’idoli. Amen	21 Children, be on your guard against idols.
