Proverbi 24

DIODATI	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Non portare invidia agli uomini malvagi, E non desiderare di esser con loro.	1 Do not imitate evil men, nor desire to be among them.
2 Perciocchè il cuor loro macchina rapina, E le lor labbra parlano d’iniquità	2 For their mind meditates on robberies, and their lips speak deceptions.
3 La casa sarà edificata per sapienza, E sarà stabilita per prudenza.	3 By wisdom shall a house be built, and by prudence shall it be strengthened.
4 E per conoscimento le camere saranno ripiene Di beni preziosi e dilettevoli, d’ogni maniera.	4 By doctrine, the storerooms shall be filled with every substance that is precious and most beautiful.
5 L’uomo savio è forte; E l’uomo intendente è possente di forza.	5 A wise man is strong, and a well-taught man is robust and valiant.
6 Perciocchè con prudenti consigli tu farai la guerra; E la salute è posta in moltitudine di consiglieri	6 For war is undertaken in an orderly manner, and safety shall be where there are many counsels.
7 Le sapienze son troppo alte per lo stolto; Egli non aprirà la bocca nella porta.	7 Wisdom is beyond the foolish; at the gate he will not open his mouth.
8 Chi divisa far male Sarà chiamato uomo malizioso.	8 Whoever intends to do evil shall be called foolish.
9 Il pensiero di stoltizia è peccato; E lo schernitore è l’abbominio degli uomini	9 The intention of the foolish is sin. And the detractor is an abomination among men.
10 Se tu ti rallenti nel giorno della distretta, Le tue forze saranno corte	10 If you despair, being weary in the day of anguish, your strength will be diminished.
11 Se tu ti rattieni dal riscuoter quelli che son tratti alla morte, E quelli che stanno in forse di essere uccisi,	11 Rescue those who are led away to death. And do not cease from delivering those who are dragged away to a violent death.
12 Dicendo: Ecco noi non ne sappiamo nulla; Colui che pesa i cuori non vi porrà egli mente? E il guardiano dell’anima tua non lo conoscerà egli, E non renderà egli a ciascuno secondo le sue opere?	12 If you would say: “I do not have sufficient strength.” He who inspects the heart, the same one understands, and nothing slips past the one who preserves your soul. And he shall repay a man according to his works.
13 Figliuol mio, mangia pure del miele; Perciocchè egli è buono; E del favo del miele, che è dolce al tuo palato;	13 My son, eat honey, because it is good, and the honeycomb, because it is so sweet to your throat.
14 Tal sarà la conoscenza della sapienza all’anima tua, Quando tu l’avrai trovata; e vi sarà premio, E la tua speranza non sarà troncata	14 So, too, is the doctrine of wisdom to your soul. When you have found it, you will have hope in the end, and your hope shall not perish.
15 O empio, non insidiar l’abitacolo del giusto, Non guastare il suo ricetto.	15 Do not lie in wait, and do not seek impiety in the house of the just, nor spoil his rest.
16 Perciocchè il giusto cade sette volte, e si rileva; Ma gli empi ruinano nel male	16 For the just one will fall seven times, and he shall rise again. But the impious will fall into evil.
17 Non rallegrarti, quando il tuo nemico sarà caduto; E quando egli sarà ruinato, il cuor tuo non ne gioisca;	17 When your enemy will fall, do not be glad, and do not let your heart exult in his ruin,
18 Che talora il Signore nol vegga, e che ciò non gli dispiaccia, E ch’egli non istorni l’ira sua d’addosso a lui	18 lest perhaps the Lord see, and it displease him, and he may take away his wrath from him.
19 Non adirarti per li maligni; Non portare invidia agli empi.	19 Do not contend with the most wicked, and do not be a rival to the impious.
20 Perciocchè non vi sarà premio alcuno per lo malvagio; La lampana degli empi sarà spenta	20 For the evil hold no hope in the future, and the lamp of the impious will be extinguished.
21 Figliuol mio, temi il Signore e il re; Non rimescolarti co’ rapportatori.	21 My son, fear the Lord, as well as the king. And do not mingle with detractors.
22 Perciocchè in un momento sorgerà la loro calamità; E chi conosce la ruina procedente d’amendue loro?	22 For their perdition shall up rise suddenly. And who knows what ruin will be for each of them?
23 Queste cose ancora son per li Savi. Ei non è bene di aver riguardo alla qualità delle persone in giudicio.	23 Likewise, these things are for the wise. It is not good to base judgment on knowledge of character.
24 I popoli malediranno, e le nazioni esecreranno Colui che dice all’empio: Tu sei giusto.	24 Those who say to the impious, “You are just,” shall be cursed by the people, and the tribes shall detest them.
25 Ma quelli che lo gastigano saranno grati; E benedizione di bene verrà sopra loro.	25 Those who argue against the impious shall be praised, and a blessing shall come upon them.
26 Chi risponde parole diritte Bacia le labbra	26 He shall kiss the lips, who responds with upright words.
27 Ordina le tue faccende fuori, E mettile in assetto ne’ tuoi campi; E poi edificherai la tua casa	27 Prepare your outdoor work, and diligently cultivate your field, so that afterward, you may build your house.
28 Non essere testimonio contro al tuo prossimo senza cagione; E vorresti tu subornare alcuno con le tue labbra?	28 Do not be a witness without cause against your neighbor. And do not mislead anyone with your lips.
29 Non dire: Come egli ha fatto a me, così farò a lui; Io renderò a costui secondo l’opera sua	29 Do not say, “I will do to him as he has done to me.” I will repay each one according to his work.
30 Io passai già presso al campo del pigro, E presso alla vigna dell’uomo scemo di senno;	30 I passed by the field of a lazy man, and by the vineyard of a foolish man,
31 Ed ecco, amendue erano tutti montati in ortiche, I cardi ne aveano coperto il disopra, E la lor chiusura di pietre era ruinata.	31 and behold, it was entirely filled with nettles, and thorns had covered its surface, and the stonewall was destroyed.
32 Ed io, riguardando ciò, vi posi mente; Vedutolo, ne presi ammaestramento.	32 When I had seen this, I laid it up in my heart, and by this example, I received discipline.
33 Dormendo un poco, sonnecchiando un poco, Piegando un poco le mani per riposare;	33 You will sleep a little,” I said. “You will slumber briefly. You will fold your hands a little, so as to rest.
34 La tua povertà verrà come un viandante, E la tua inopia come uno scudiere	34 And destitution will overtake you like a runner, and begging will overtake you like an armed man.”
