DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ecco, l’occhio mio ha vedute tutte queste cose, L’orecchio mio le ha udite, e le ha intese.	1 I have seen all this with my own eyes, heard with my own ears and understood.
2 Quanto sapete voi, so anch’io; Io non son da men di voi.	2 Whatever you know, I know too; I am in no way inferior to you.
3 E pure io parlerò all’Onnipotente; Io avrò a grado di venire a ragione con lui.	3 But my words are intended for Shaddai; I mean to remonstrate with God.
4 Ma certo, quant’è a voi, voi siete rappezzatori di menzogna; Voi siete medici da nulla tutti quanti.	4 As for you, you are only charlatans, all worthless as doctors!
5 Oh! vi taceste pur del tutto, Ciò vi sarebbe reputato in saviezza!	5 Wil no one teach you to be quiet -- the only wisdom that becomes you!
6 Deh! ascoltate la difesa della mia ragione, Ed attendete agli argomenti delle mie labbra.	6 Kindly listen to my accusation and give your attention to the way I shall plead.
7 Convienvisi in favor di Dio parlar perversamente, E per rispetto suo parlar frodolentemente?	7 Do you mean to defend God by prevarication and by dishonest argument,
8 Convienvisi aver riguardo alla qualità sua? Convienvisi litigar per Iddio?	8 and, taking his side like this, appoint yourselves as his advocates?
9 Sarebbe egli ben per voi ch’egli vi esaminasse? Gabberestelo voi come si gabba un uomo?	9 How would you fare, if he were to scrutinise you? Can he be duped as mortals are duped?
10 Egli del certo vi arguirà, Se di nascosto avete riguardo alla qualità delle persone.	10 He would inflict a harsh rebuke on you for your covert partiality.
11 La sua altezza non vi sgomenterà ella? Lo spavento di lui non vi caderà egli addosso?	11 Does his majesty not affright you? Does his terror not overcome you?
12 I vostri detti memorandi son simili a cenere; Ed i vostri sublimi ragionamenti a mucchi di fango	12 Your received ideas are maxims of ash, your retorts, retorts of clay.
13 Tacetevi, e lasciatemi stare, ed io parlerò; E passimi addosso che che sia.	13 Be quiet! Kindly let me do the talking, happen to me what may.

18 Ecco ora, quando io avrò esposta per ordine la mia ragione, Io so che sarò trovato giusto.	18 You see, I shal proceed by form of law, knowing that I am upright.

26 Che tu mi sentenzii a pene amare, E mi faccia eredar l’iniquità della mia fanciullezza!	26 You who lay bitter al egations against me and tax me with the faults of my youth
27 E metta i miei piedi ne’ ceppi, E spii tutti i miei sentieri, E stampi le tue pedate in su le radici de’ miei piedi!	27 and have put my feet in the stocks; you examine my every step and measure my footprints one byone!
