1 Abram wywędrował więc z Egiptu z żoną i całym dobytkiem swoim oraz z Lotem do Negebu.	1 From Egypt Abram returned to the Negeb with his wife and al he possessed, and Lot with him.
2 A był Abram już bardzo zasobny w trzody, srebro i złoto.	2 Abram was very rich in livestock, silver and gold.
3 Zatrzymując się na postojach, Abram zawędrował z Negebu do Betel, do tego miejsca, w którym przedtem rozbił swe namioty, między Betel i Aj,	3 By stages he went from the Negeb to Bethel, where he had first pitched his tent, between Bethel andAi,
4 do tego miejsca, w którym uprzednio zbudował ołtarz i wzywał imienia Pana.	4 at the place where he had formerly erected the altar. There Abram invoked the name of Yahweh.
5 Lot, który szedł z Abramem, miał również owce, woły i namioty.	5 Lot, who was travelling with Abram, had flocks and cattle of his own, and tents too.
6 Kraj nie mógł utrzymać ich obu, bo zbyt liczne mieli trzody; musieli więc się rozłączyć.	6 The land was not sufficient to accommodate them both at once, for they had too many possessions tobe able to live together.
7 A gdy wynikła sprzeczka pomiędzy pasterzami trzód Abrama i pasterzami trzód Lota - mieszkańcami kraju byli wówczas Kananejczycy i Peryzzyci -	7 Dispute broke out between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and those of Lot. (The Canaanites andPerizzites were living in the country at the time.)
8 rzekł Abram do Lota: Niechaj nie będzie sporu między nami, między pasterzami moimi a pasterzami twoimi, bo przecież jesteśmy krewni.	8 Accordingly Abram said to Lot, 'We do not want discord between us or between my herdsmen andyours, for we are kinsmen.
9 Wszak cały ten kraj stoi przed tobą otworem. Odłącz się ode mnie! Jeżeli pójdziesz w lewo, ja pójdę w prawo, a jeżeli ty pójdziesz w prawo, ja - w lewo.	9 Is not the whole land open before you? Go in the opposite direction to me: if you take the left, I shalgo right; if you take the right, I shal go left.'
10 Wtedy Lot, spojrzawszy przed siebie, spostrzegł, że cała okolica wokół doliny Jordanu aż do Soaru jest bardzo urodzajna, była ona bowiem jak ogród Pana, jak ziemia egipska, zanim Pan nie zniszczył Sodomy i Gomory.	10 Looking round, Lot saw all the Jordan plain, irrigated everywhere -- this was before Yahwehdestroyed Sodom and Gomorrah-like the garden of Yahweh or the land of Egypt, as far as Zoar.
11 Lot wybrał sobie zatem całą tę dolinę Jordanu i wyruszył ku wschodowi, I tak rozłączyli się obaj.	11 So Lot chose all the Jordan plain for himself and moved off eastwards. Thus they parted company:
12 Abram pozostał w ziemi Kanaan, Lot zaś zamieszkał w owej okolicy, rozbiwszy swe namioty aż po Sodomę.	12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan; Lot settled among the cities of the plain, pitching his tents onthe outskirts of Sodom.
13 Mieszkańcy Sodomy byli źli, gdyż dopuszczali się ciężkich przewinień wobec Pana.	13 Now the people of Sodom were vicious and great sinners against Yahweh.
14 Po odejściu Lota Pan rzekł do Abrama: Spójrz przed siebie i rozejrzyj się z tego miejsca, na którym stoisz, na północ i na południe, na wschód i ku morzu;	14 Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had parted company from him, 'Look al round from where you are,to north and south, to east and west,
15 cały ten kraj, który widzisz, daję tobie i twemu potomstwu na zawsze.	15 for al the land within sight I shal give to you and your descendants for ever.
16 Twoje zaś potomstwo uczynię liczne jak ziarnka pyłu ziemi; jeśli kto może policzyć ziarnka pyłu ziemi, policzone też będzie twoje potomstwo.	16 I shal make your descendants like the dust on the ground; when people succeed in counting thespecks of dust on the ground, then they wil be able to count your descendants too!
17 Wstań i przejdź ten kraj wzdłuż i wszerz: tobie go oddaję.	17 On your feet! Travel the length and breadth of the country, for I mean to give it to you.'
18 Abram zwinął swe namioty i przybył pod Hebron, gdzie były dęby Mamre. Osiedliwszy się tam, zbudował ołtarz dla Pana.	18 So Abram moved his tent and went to settle at the Oak of Mamre, at Hebron, and there he built analtar to Yahweh.
