Josué 5

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 Cuando todos los reyes de los amorreos que ocupaban la región situada al oeste del Jordán y todos los reyes de los cananeos que estaban junto al mar, oyeron que el Señor había secado las aguas del Jordán delante de los israelitas, hasta que ellos pasaron, su corazón desfalleció y nadie tuvo ánimo para oponerles resistencia.	1 Therefore, after all the kings of the Amorites, who were living across the Jordan toward the western region, and all the kings of Canaan, who possessed the places beside the great sea, had heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the sons of Israel, until they crossed over it, their heart was broken, and there remained in them no spirit, out of fear at the entrance of the sons of Israel.
2 En aquel tiempo, el Señor dijo a Josué: «Fabrícate unos cuchillos de piedra y vuelve a circuncidar a los israelitas».	2 So at that time, the Lord said to Joshua: “Make for yourself knives of stone, and circumcise the sons of Israel a second time.”
3 Josué hizo entonces unos cuchillos de piedra y circuncidó a los israelitas en la Colina de los Prepucios.	3 He did what the Lord had commanded, and he circumcised the sons of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.
4 Los circuncidó por el siguiente motivo: toda la población que había salido de Egipto, los varones aptos para la guerra, habían muerto en el desierto durante la travesía, después de la salida de Egipto.	4 Now this is the reason for the second circumcision: All the people who departed from Egypt of the male gender, all the men fit for war, died in the desert during the very long wandering way;
5 Ahora bien, los que habían salido estaban circuncidados; pero los nacidos después de la salida de Egipto, durante la travesía del desierto, no lo estaban.	5 all these had been circumcised. But the people who were born in the desert,
6 Porque los israelitas anduvieron por el desierto durante cuarenta años, o sea, el tiempo suficiente para que desapareciera la nación entera, con los hombres aptos para la guerra que habían salido de Egipto. Como ellos no escucharon la voz del Señor, el Señor juró que no les dejaría ver la tierra que había prometido darnos, de acuerdo con el juramento que hizo a nuestros padres, esa tierra que mana leche y miel.	6 throughout the forty years of the journey in the very broad wilderness, were uncircumcised, until the ones who had not listened to the voice of the Lord were consumed. For he had sworn to them before, that he would not reveal to them the land flowing with milk and honey.
7 Pero en lugar de ellos suscitó a sus hijos; y fue a estos a los que circuncidó Josué, ya que estaban incircuncisos porque no los habían circuncidado durante la travesía.	7 The sons of these ones succeeded to the place of their fathers, and they were circumcised by Joshua. For they were uncircumcised, just as they had been born, and no one had circumcised them along the way.
8 Cuando todo el pueblo fue circuncidado, se quedaron descansando en el campamento hasta que se curaron.	8 Then, after they were all circumcised, they remained in the same place of the camp until they were healed.
9 Entonces el Señor dijo a Josué: «Hoy he quitado de encima de ustedes el oprobio de Egipto». Y aquel lugar se llamó Guilgal hasta el día de hoy.	9 And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have taken away from you the disgrace of Egypt.” And the name of that place was called Gilgal, even to the present day.
10 Los israelitas acamparon en Guilgal, y el catorce del mes, por la tarde, celebraron la Pascua en la llanura de Jericó.	10 And the sons of Israel stayed at Gilgal, and they kept the Passover, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, in the plains of Jericho.
11 Al día siguiente de la Pascua, comieron de los productos del país –pan sin levadura y granos tostados– ese mismo día.	11 And on the following day, they ate unleavened bread from the grain of the land, and cooked grain, of the same year.
12 El maná dejó de caer al día siguiente, cuando comieron los productos del país. Ya no hubo más maná para los israelitas, y aquel año comieron los frutos de la tierra de Canaán.	12 And the manna ceased after they ate from the grain of the land. And the sons of Israel no longer made use of that food. Instead, they ate from the grain of the present year, from the land of Canaan.
13 Mientras Josué estaba cerca de Jericó, alzó los ojos y vio a un hombre que estaba de pie frente a él, con la espada desenvainada en su mano. Josué avanzó hacia él y le preguntó: «¿Eres de los nuestros o de nuestros enemigos?».	13 And when Joshua was in the field of the city of Jericho, he lifted up his eyes, and he saw a man standing opposite him, holding a drawn sword. And he went to him and said, “Are you one of ours, or one of our adversaries?”
14 El respondió: «No, yo soy el jefe del ejército del Señor y ahora he venido». Josué cayó con el rostro en tierra, se postró y exclamó: «Señor, ¿qué tienes que decir a tu servidor?».	14 And he responded: “Not at all. Instead, I am a prince of the host of the Lord, and now I have arrived.”
15 El jefe del ejército del Señor le respondió: «Quítate las sandalias de tus pies, porque el lugar donde estás parado es santo». Y Josué así lo hizo.	15 Joshua fell prone on the ground. And reverencing, he said, “What does my lord say to his servant?”
	16 He said: “Remove your shoes from your feet. For the place on which you stand is holy.” And Joshua did just as he had been commanded.
