EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Y les decía: «Les aseguro que algunos de los que están aquí presentes no morirán antes de haber visto que el Reino de Dios ha llegado con poder».	1 And he said to them, 'In truth I tel you, there are some standing here who wil not taste death beforethey see the kingdom of God come with power.'
2 Seis días después, Jesús tomó a Pedro, Santiago y Juan, y los llevo a ellos solos a un monte elevado. Allí se transfiguró en presencia de ellos.	2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John and led them up a high mountain ontheir own by themselves. There in their presence he was transfigured:
3 Sus vestiduras se volvieron resplandecientes, tan blancas como nadie en el mundo podría blanquearlas.	3 his clothes became brilliantly white, whiter than any earthly bleacher could make them.
4 Y se les aparecieron Elías y Moisés, conversando con Jesús.	4 Elijah appeared to them with Moses; and they were talking to Jesus.
5 Pedro dijo a Jesús: «Maestro, ¡qué bien estamos aquí! Hagamos tres carpas, una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías».	5 Then Peter spoke to Jesus, 'Rabbi,' he said, 'it is wonderful for us to be here; so let us make threeshelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.'
6 Pedro no sabía qué decir, porque estaban llenos de temor.	6 He did not know what to say; they were so frightened.
7 Entonces una nube los cubrió con su sombra, y salió de ella una voz: «Este es mi Hijo muy querido, escúchenlo».	7 And a cloud came, covering them in shadow; and from the cloud there came a voice, 'This is my Son,the Beloved. Listen to him.'
8 De pronto miraron a su alrededor y no vieron a nadie, sino a Jesús solo con ellos.	8 Then suddenly, when they looked round, they saw no one with them any more but only Jesus.
9 Mientras bajaban del monte, Jesús les prohibió contar lo que habían visto, hasta que el Hijo del hombre resucitara de entre los muertos.	9 As they were coming down from the mountain he warned them to tel no one what they had seen, untilafter the Son of man had risen from the dead.
10 Ellos cumplieron esta orden, pero se preguntaban qué significará «resucitar de entre los muertos».	10 They observed the warning faithful y, though among themselves they discussed what 'rising from thedead' could mean.
11 Y le hicieron esta pregunta: «¡Por qué dicen los escribas que antes debe venir Elías?».	11 And they put this question to him, 'Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?'
12 Jesús les respondió: «Sí, Elías debe venir antes para restablecer el orden en todo. Pero, ¿no dice la Escritura que el Hijo del hombre debe sufrir mucho y ser despreciado?	12 He said to them, 'Elijah is indeed first coming to set everything right again; yet how is it that thescriptures say about the Son of man that he must suffer grievously and be treated with contempt?
13 Les aseguro que Elías ya ha venido e hicieron con él lo que quisieron, como estaba escrito».	13 But I tel you that Elijah has come and they have treated him as they pleased, just as the scripturessay about him.'
14 Cuando volvieron a donde estaban los otros discípulos, los encontraron en medio de una gran multitud, discutiendo con algunos escribas.	14 As they were rejoining the disciples they saw a large crowd round them and some scribes arguing withthem.
15 En cuanto la multitud distinguió a Jesús, quedó asombrada y corrieron a saludarlo.	15 At once, when they saw him, the whole crowd were struck with amazement and ran to greet him.
16 El les preguntó: «¿Sobre qué estaban discutiendo?».	16 And he asked them, 'What are you arguing about with them?'
17 Uno de ellos le dijo: «Maestro, te he traído a mi hijo, que está poseído de un espíritu mudo.	17 A man answered him from the crowd, 'Master, I have brought my son to you; there is a spirit ofdumbness in him,
18 Cuando se apodera de él, lo tira al suelo y le hace echar espuma por la boca; entonces le crujen sus dientes y se queda rígido. Le pedí a tus discípulos que lo expulsaran pero no pudieron».	18 and when it takes hold of him it throws him to the ground, and he foams at the mouth and grinds histeeth and goes rigid. And I asked your disciples to drive it out and they were unable to.'
19 «Generación incrédula, respondió Jesús, ¿hasta cuando estaré con ustedes? ¿Hasta cuando tendré que soportarlos? Tráiganmelo».	19 In reply he said to them, 'Faithless generation, how much longer must I be among you? How muchlonger must I put up with you? Bring him to me.'
20 Y ellos se lo trajeron. En cuanto vio a Jesús, el espíritu sacudió violentamente al niño, que cayó al suelo y se revolcaba, echando espuma por la boca.	20 They brought the boy to him, and at once the spirit of dumbness threw the boy into convulsions, andhe fel to the ground and lay writhing there, foaming at the mouth.
21 Jesús le preguntó al padre: «¿Cuánto tiempo hace que está así?». «Desde la infancia, le respondió,	21 Jesus asked the father, 'How long has this been happening to him?' 'From childhood,' he said,
22 y a menudo lo hace caer en el fuego o en el agua para matarlo. Si puedes hacer algo, ten piedad de nosotros y ayúdanos».	22 'and it has often thrown him into fire and into water, in order to destroy him.
23 «¡Si puedes...!», respondió Jesús. «Todo es posible para el que cree».	23 But if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us.'
24 Inmediatamente el padre del niño exclamó: «Creo, ayúdame porque tengo poca fe».	24 'If you can?' retorted Jesus. 'Everything is possible for one who has faith.' At once the father of the boycried out, 'I have faith. Help my lack of faith!'
25 Al ver que llegaba más gente, Jesús increpó al espíritu impuro, diciéndole: «Espíritu mudo y sordo, yo te lo ordeno, sal de él y no vuelvas más».	25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd was gathering, he rebuked the unclean spirit. 'Deaf and dumbspirit,' he said, 'I command you: come out of him and never enter him again.'
26 El demonio gritó, sacudió violentamente al niño y salió de él, dejándolo como muerto, tanto que muchos decían: «Está muerto».	26 Then it threw the boy into violent convulsions and came out shouting, and the boy lay there so like acorpse that most of them said, 'He is dead.'
27 Pero Jesús, tomándolo de la mano, lo levantó, y el niño se puso de pie.	27 But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him up, and he was able to stand.
28 Cuando entró a la casa y quedaron solos, los discípulos le preguntaron: «¿Por qué nosotros no pudimos expulsarlo?».	28 When he had gone indoors, his disciples asked him when they were by themselves, 'Why were weunable to drive it out?'
29 El les respondió: «Esta clase de demonios se expulsa sólo con la oración».	29 He answered, 'This is the kind that can be driven out only by prayer.'
30 Al salir de allí atravesaron la Galilea; Jesús no quería que nadie lo supiera,	30 After leaving that place they made their way through Galilee; and he did not want anyone to know,
31 porque enseñaba y les decía: «El Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado en manos de los hombres; lo matarán y tres días después de su muerte, resucitará».	31 because he was instructing his disciples; he was telling them, 'The Son of man wil be delivered intothe power of men; they will put him to death; and three days after he has been put to death he will rise again.'
32 Pero los discípulos no comprendían esto y temían hacerle preguntas.	32 But they did not understand what he said and were afraid to ask him.
33 Llegaron a Cafarnaúm y, una vez que estuvieron en la casa, les preguntó: «¿De qué hablaban en el camino?».	33 They came to Capernaum, and when he got into the house he asked them, 'What were you arguingabout on the road?'
34 Ellos callaban, porque habían estado discutiendo sobre quién era el más grande.	34 They said nothing, because on the road they had been arguing which of them was the greatest.
35 Entonces, sentándose, llamó a los Doce y les dijo: «El que quiere ser el primero, debe hacerse el último de todos y el servidor de todos».	35 So he sat down, called the Twelve to him and said, 'If anyone wants to be first, he must make himselflast of all and servant of all.'
36 Después, tomando a un niño, lo puso en medio de ellos y, abrazándolo, les dijo:	36 He then took a little child whom he set among them and embraced, and he said to them,
37 «El que recibe a uno de estos pequeños en mi Nombre, me recibe a mí, y el que me recibe, no es a mí al que recibe, sino a aquel que me ha enviado».	37 'Anyone who welcomes a little child such as this in my name, welcomes me; and anyone whowelcomes me, welcomes not me but the one who sent me.'
38 Juan le dijo: «Maestro, hemos visto a uno que expulsaba demonios en tu Nombre, y tratamos de impedírselo porque no es de los nuestros».	38 John said to him, 'Master, we saw someone who is not one of us driving out devils in your name, andbecause he was not one of us we tried to stop him.'
39 Pero Jesús les dijo: «No se lo impidan, porque nadie puede hacer un milagro en mi Nombre y luego hablar mal de mí.	39 But Jesus said, 'You must not stop him; no one who works a miracle in my name could soonafterwards speak evil of me.
40 Y el que no está contra nosotros, está con nosotros.	40 Anyone who is not against us is for us.
41 Les aseguro que no quedará sin recompensa el que les dé de beber un vaso de agua por el hecho de que ustedes pertenecen a Cristo.	41 'If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, then in truth I tel you, he wilmost certainly not lose his reward.
42 Si alguien llegara a escandalizar a uno de estos pequeños que tienen fe, sería preferible para él que le ataran al cuello una piedra de moler y lo arrojaran al mar.	42 'But anyone who is the downfal of one of these little ones who have faith, would be better thrown intothe sea with a great mil stone hung round his neck.
43 Si tu mano es para ti ocasión de pecado, córtala, porque más te vale entrar en la Vida manco, que ir con tus dos manos a la Gehena, al fuego inextinguible.	43 And if your hand should be your downfal , cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life crippled, than tohave two hands and go to hel , into the fire thatnever be put out.

45 Y si tu pie es para ti ocasión de pecado, córtalo, porque más te vale entrar lisiado en la Vida, que ser arrojado con tus dos pies a la Gehena.	45 And if your foot should be your downfal , cut it off; it is better for you enter into life lame, than to havetwo feet and be thrown into hell.

47 Y si tu ojo es para ti ocasión de pecado, arráncalo, porque más te vale entrar con un solo ojo en el Reino de Dios, que ser arrojado con tus dos ojos a la Gehena,	47 And if your eye should be your downfal , tear it out; it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of Godwith one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell
48 donde el gusano no muere y el fuego no se apaga.	48 where their worm will never die nor their fire be put out.
49 Porque cada uno será salado por el fuego.	49 For everyone wil be salted with fire.
50 La sal es una cosa excelente, pero si se vuelve insípida, ¿con qué la volverán a salar? Que haya sal en ustedes mismos y vivan en paz unos con otros».	50 Salt is a good thing, but if salt has become insipid, how can you make it salty again? Have salt inyourselves and be at peace with one another.'
