EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 En aquel tiempo, Jesús atravesaba unos sembrados y era un día sábado. Como sus discípulos sintieron hambre, comenzaron a arrancar y a comer las espigas.	1 At that time Jesus went through the cornfields one Sabbath day. His disciples were hungry and beganto pick ears of corn and eat them.
2 Al ver esto, los fariseos le dijeron: «Mira que tus discípulos hacen lo que no está permitido en sábado».	2 The Pharisees noticed it and said to him, 'Look, your disciples are doing something that is forbiddenon the Sabbath.'
3 Pero él les respondió: «¿No han leído lo que hizo David, cuando él y sus compañeros tuvieron hambre,	3 But he said to them, 'Have you not read what David did when he and his fol owers were hungry-
4 cómo entró en la Casa de Dios y comieron los panes de la ofrenda, que no les estaba permitido comer ni a él ni a sus compañeros, sino solamente a los sacerdotes?	4 how he went into the house of God and they ate the loaves of the offering although neither he nor hisfol owers were permitted to eat them, but only the priests?
5 ¿Y no han leído también en la Ley, que los sacerdotes, en el Templo, violan el descanso del sábado, sin incurrir en falta?	5 Or again, have you not read in the Law that on the Sabbath day the Temple priests break the Sabbathwithout committing any fault?
6 Ahora bien, yo les digo que aquí hay alguien más grande que el Templo.	6 Now here, I tel you, is something greater than the Temple.
7 Si hubieran comprendido lo que significa: Yo quiero misericordia y no sacrificios, no condenarían a los inocentes.	7 And if you had understood the meaning of the words: Mercy is what pleases me, not sacrifice, youwould not have condemned the blameless.
8 Porque el Hijo del hombre es dueño del sábado.	8 For the Son of man is master of the Sabbath.'
9 De allí, Jesús fue a la sinagoga de los fariseos,	9 He moved on from there and went to their synagogue;
10 donde se encontraba un hombre que tenía una mano paralizada. Para poder acusarlo, ellos le preguntaron: «¿Está permitido curar en sábado?».	10 now a man was there with a withered hand. They asked him, 'Is it permitted to cure somebody on theSabbath day?' hoping for something to charge him with.
11 El les dijo: «¿Quién de ustedes, si tiene una sola oveja y esta cae a un pozo en sábado, no la va a sacar?	11 But he said to them, 'If any one of you here had only one sheep and it fell down a hole on theSabbath day, would he not get hold of it and lift it out?
12 ¡Cuánto más vale un hombre que una oveja! Por lo tanto, está permitido hacer una buena acción en sábado».	12 Now a man is far more important than a sheep, so it fol ows that it is permitted on the Sabbath day todo good.'
13 Entonces dijo al hombre: «Extiende tu mano». El la extendió, y la mano enferma quedó tan sana como la otra.	13 Then he said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' He stretched it out and his hand was restored, assound as the other one.
14 En seguida los fariseos salieron y se confabularon para buscar la forma de acabar con él.	14 At this the Pharisees went out and began to plot against him, discussing how to destroy him.
15 Al enterarse de esto, Jesús se alejó de allí. Muchos lo siguieron, y los curó a todos.	15 Jesus knew this and withdrew from the district. Many fol owed him and he cured them al
16 Pero él les ordenó severamente que no lo dieran a conocer,	16 but warned them not to make him known.
17 para que se cumpliera lo anunciado por el profeta Isaías:	17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:
18 "Este es mi servidor, a quien elegí, mi muy querido, en quien tengo puesta mi predilección. Derramaré mi Espíritu sobre él y anunciará la justicia a las naciones.	18 Look! My servant whom I have chosen, my beloved, in whom my soul delights, I wil send my Spiritupon him, and he wil present judgement to the nations;
19 No discutirá ni gritará, y nadie oirá su voz en las plazas.	19 he wil not brawl or cry out, his voice is not heard in the streets,
20 No quebrará la caña doblada y no apagará la mecha humeante, hasta que haga triunfar la justicia;	20 he wil not break the crushed reed, or snuff the faltering wick,
21 y las naciones pondrán la esperanza en su Nombre".	21 until he has made judgement victorious; in him the nations will put their hope.
22 Entonces, le llevaron a un endemoniado ciego y mudo, y Jesús lo curó, devolviéndole el habla y la vista.	22 Then they brought to him a blind and dumb demoniac; and he cured him, so that the dumb man couldspeak and see.
23 La multitud, asombrada, decía: «¿No será este el Hijo de David?».	23 Al the people were astounded and said, 'Can this be the son of David?'
24 Los fariseos, oyendo esto, dijeron: «Este expulsa a los demonios por el poder de Belzebul, el Príncipe de los demonios».	24 But when the Pharisees heard this they said, 'The man drives out devils only through Beelzebul, thechief of the devils.'
25 Jesús, conociendo sus pensamientos, les dijo: «Un reino donde hay luchas internas va a la ruina; y una ciudad o una familia dividida no puede subsistir.	25 Knowing what was in their minds he said to them, 'Every kingdom divided against itself is heading forruin; and no town, no household divided against itself can last.
26 Ahora bien, si Satanás expulsa a Satanás, lucha contra sí mismo; entonces, ¿cómo podrá subsistir su reino?	26 Now if Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself; so how can his kingdom last?
27 Y si yo expulso a los demonios con el poder de Belzebul, ¿con qué poder los expulsan los discípulos de ustedes? Por eso, ustedes los tendrán a ellos como jueces.	27 And if it is through Beelzebul that I drive devils out, through whom do your own experts drive themout? They shal be your judges, then.
28 Pero si expulso a los demonios con el poder del Espíritu de Dios, quiere decir que el Reino de Dios ha llegado a ustedes.	28 But if it is through the Spirit of God that I drive out devils, then be sure that the kingdom of God hascaught you unawares.
29 ¿Acaso alguien puede entrar en la casa de un hombre fuerte y robar sus cosas, si primero no lo ata? Sólo así podrá saquear la casa.	29 'Or again, how can anyone make his way into a strong man's house and plunder his property unlesshe has first tied up the strong man? Only then can he plunder his house.
30 El que no está conmigo, está contra mí; y el que no recoge conmigo, desparrama.	30 'Anyone who is not with me is against me, and anyone who does not gather in with me throws away.
31 Por eso les digo que todo pecado o blasfemia se les perdonará a los hombres, pero la blasfemia contra el Espíritu no será perdonada.	31 And so I tel you, every human sin and blasphemy will be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spiritwil not be forgiven.
32 Al que diga una palabra contra el Hijo del hombre, se le perdonará; pero al que hable contra el Espíritu Santo, no se le perdonará ni en este mundo ni en el futuro.	32 And anyone who says a word against the Son of man wil be forgiven; but no one who speaks againstthe Holy Spirit wil be forgiven either in this world or in the next.
33 Supongan que el árbol es bueno: el fruto también será bueno. Supongan que el árbol es malo: el fruto también será malo. Porque el árbol se conoce por su fruto.	33 'Make a tree sound and its fruit wil be sound; make a tree rotten and its fruit will be rotten. For thetree can be told by its fruit.
34 Raza de víboras, ¿cómo pueden ustedes decir cosas buenas, siendo malos? Porque la boca habla de la abundancia del corazón.	34 You brood of vipers, how can your speech be good when you are evil? For words flow out of what fil sthe heart.
35 El hombre bueno saca cosas buenas de su tesoro de bondad; y el hombre malo saca cosas malas de su tesoro de maldad.	35 Good people draw good things from their store of goodness; bad people draw bad things from theirstore of badness.
36 Pero les aseguro que en el día del Juicio, los hombres rendirán cuenta de toda palabra vana que hayan pronunciado.	36 So I tel you this, that for every unfounded word people utter they wil answer on Judgement Day,
37 Porque por tus palabras serás justificado, y por tus palabras serás condenado».	37 since it is by your words you wil be justified, and by your words condemned.'
38 Entonces algunos escribas y fariseos le dijeron: «Maestro, queremos que nos hagas ver un signo».	38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees spoke up. 'Master,' they said, 'we should like to see a sign from you.'
39 El les respondió: «Esta generación malvada y adúltera reclama un signo, pero no se le dará otro que el del profeta Jonás.	39 He replied, 'It is an evil and unfaithful generation that asks for a sign! The only sign it wil be given isthe sign of the prophet Jonah.
40 Porque así como Jonás estuvo tres días y tres noches en el vientre del pez, así estará el Hijo del hombre en el seno de la tierra tres días y tres noches.	40 For as Jonah remained in the belly of the sea-monster for three days and three nights, so wil the Sonof man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.
41 El día de Juicio, los hombres de Nínive se levantarán contra esta generación y la condenarán, porque ellos se convirtieron por la predicación de Jonás, y aquí hay alguien que es más que Jonás.	41 On Judgement Day the men of Nineveh will appear against this generation and they wil be itscondemnation, because when Jonah preached they repented; and look, there is something greater than Jonahhere.
42 El día del Juicio, la Reina del Sur se levantará contra esta generación y la condenará, porque ella vino de los confines de la tierra para escuchar la sabiduría de Salomón, y aquí hay alguien que es más que Salomón.	42 On Judgement Day the Queen of the South wil appear against this generation and be itscondemnation, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and look, there issomething greater than Solomon here.
43 Cuando el espíritu impuro sale de un hombre, vaga por lugares desiertos en busca de reposo, y al no encontrarlo,	43 'When an unclean spirit goes out of someone it wanders through waterless country looking for aplace to rest, and cannot find one.
44 piensa: «Volveré a mi casa, de donde salí». Cuando llega, la encuentra vacía, barrida y ordenada.	44 Then it says, "I wil return to the home I came from." But on arrival, finding it unoccupied, swept andtidied,
45 Entonces va a buscar a otros siete espíritus peores que él; vienen y se instalan allí. Y al final, ese hombre se encuentra peor que al principio. Así sucederá con esta generación malvada».	45 it then goes off and col ects seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and set uphouse there, and so that person ends up worse off than before. That is what will happen to this wickedgeneration.'
46 Todavía estaba hablando a la multitud, cuando su madre y sus hermanos, que estaban afuera, trataban de hablar con él.	46 He was still speaking to the crowds when suddenly his mother and his brothers were standingoutside and were anxious to have a word with him.
47 Alguien le dijo: «Tu madre y tus hermanos están ahí afuera y quieren hablarte».	47 still speaking to the crowds when suddenly his mother and his brothers were standing outside andwere anxious to have a word with him.
48 Jesús le respondió: «¿Quién es mí madre y quiénes son mis hermanos?».	48 But to the man who told him this Jesus replied, 'Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?'
49 Y señalando con la mano a sus discípulos, agregó: «Estos son mi madre y mis hermanos.	49 And stretching out his hand towards his disciples he said, 'Here are my mother and my brothers.
50 Porque todo el que hace la voluntad de mi Padre que está en el cielo, ese es mi hermano, mi hermana y mi madre».	50 Anyone who does the wil of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.'
