EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Los jefes de familia del clan de los descendientes de Galaad –hijo de Maquir, hijo de Manasés, uno de los clanes de los descendientes de José– se presentaron delante de Moisés y de los principales jefes de familia de Israel	1 Then the heads of families of the clan descended from Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, oneof the clans descended from Joseph, came forward and, addressing Moses and the leaders, the Israelite headsof families,
2 y les dijeron: El Señor mandó a Moisés que repartiera el país entre los israelitas mediante un sorteo, y Moisés también recibió del Señor la orden de entregar a sus hijas la herencia de nuestro hermano Selofjad.	2 they said: 'Yahweh has ordered my lord to apportion the Israelites' heritages in the country by lot andmy lord has been ordered by Yahweh to give the heritage of our brother Zelophehad to his daughters.
3 Ahora bien, si ellas se casan con un miembro de otra tribu de Israel, su parte será sustraída de la herencia de la tribu a la que van a pertenecer. De esa manera, disminuirá la herencia que nos ha tocado en suerte.	3 Now, if they marry someone from another Israelite tribe, their heritage wil be alienated from ourancestral heritage. The heritage of the tribe to which they wil then belong wil be increased, and the heritage al otted to us will be diminished.
4 Y cuando los israelitas celebren el año del jubileo, la herencia de ellas se sumará a la de la otra tribu y será sustraída del patrimonio de nuestra tribu.	4 And when the jubilee for the Israelites comes round, these women's heritage will become part of theheritage of the tribe to which they then belong, and be alienated from the heritage of our ancestral tribe.'
5 Entonces Moisés, por orden del Señor, dio estas instrucciones a los israelitas: La tribu de los descendientes de José tiene razón.	5 At Yahweh's bidding, Moses gave the Israelites this order. He said: 'What the Josephite tribe says istrue.
6 Esto es lo que el Señor ha ordenado respecto de las hijas de Selofjad: Ellas pueden casarse con quien les parezca mejor, con tal que lo hagan dentro de un clan perteneciente a la tribu de su padre.	6 This is Yahweh's ruling for Zelophehad's daughters: "They may marry whom they please, providingthey marry into a clan of their father's tribe.
7 La parte hereditaria de los israelitas no pasará de una tribu a otra, sino que cada israelita deberá retener la herencia de su tribu paterna.	7 But the heritages of Israelites are not to be transferred from tribe to tribe; each Israelite wil stick tothe heritage of his own tribe.
8 Por lo tanto, toda joven que posea una herencia en alguna tribu de los israelitas, se casará dentro de un clan de su tribu paterna, de manera que los israelitas conserven cada uno la herencia de sus padres.	8 Any daughter who owns a heritage in an Israelite tribe will marry into a clan of her own paternal tribe,so that the Israelites may each preserve the heritage of his father.
9 Así, ninguna herencia pasará de una tribu a otra, sino que cada una de las tribus de los israelitas retendrá su parte.	9 No heritage may be transferred from one tribe to another; each Israelite tribe wil stick to its ownheritage." '
10 Las hijas de Selofjad procedieron como el Señor se lo había ordenado a Moisés.	10 Zelophehad's daughters did as Yahweh had ordered Moses.
11 Majlá, Tirsá, Joglá, Milcá y Noá, hijas de Selofjad, se casaron con hijos de sus tíos paternos.	11 Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah and Noah, daughters of Zelophehad, married the sons of theirfather's brothers.
12 Y como lo hicieron dentro de los clanes de los descendientes de Manasés, la herencia de ellas quedó en la tribu del clan de su padre.	12 Since they married into clans descended from Manasseh son of Joseph, their heritage reverted tothe tribe of their father's clan.
13 Estos son los mandamientos y las leyes que el Señor dio a los israelitas por medio de Moisés, en las estepas de Moab, junto al Jordán, a la altura de Jericó.	13 Such were the commandments and laws that Yahweh prescribed for the Israelites through Moseson the Plains of Moab near the Jordan by Jericho.n
