1 Balaam dijo de Balac: «Constrúyeme aquí siete altares y prepárame siete novillos y siete carneros».	1 And Balaam said to Balak, “Build seven altars here for me, and prepare as many calves, and the same number of rams.”
2 Balac hizo lo que Balaam le había indicado, y entre los dos ofrecieron un novillo y un carnero en cada altar.	2 And when he had acted according to the words of Balaam, they placed a calf and a ram together on each altar.
3 Luego Balaam dijo a Balac: «Quédate junto a tus ofrendas, mientras voy a ver si el Señor me hace una revelación. Yo te comunicaré lo que él me manifieste». Y se fue a una colina desierta.	3 And Balaam said to Balak: “Stand for a little while next to your holocaust, until I go, to see if perhaps the Lord will meet with me. And whatever he will command, I shall speak to you.”
4 El Señor se reveló a Balaam, y este le dijo: «Yo erigí los siete altares, y ofrecí un novillo y un carnero en cada altar».	4 And after he had quickly departed, God met with him. And Balaam, speaking to him, said: “I have set up seven altars, and I have placed a calf and a ram on each.”
5 Entonces el Señor puso una palabra en la boca de Balaam y le dijo: «Regresa adonde está Balac y háblale de esta manera».	5 Then the Lord placed the word in his mouth, and he said: “Return to Balak, and you shall say this.”
6 Balaam regresó y lo encontró de pie junto a su holocausto, acompañado de todos los jefes de Moab.	6 Returning, he found Balak standing next to his holocaust, with all the leaders of the Moabites.
7 Entonces pronunció su poema, diciendo: «Desde Aram me hizo venir Balac, el rey de Moab desde las montañas del este: "¡Ven, maldíceme a Jacob, ven, pronuncia una execración contra Israel!".	7 And taking up his parable, he said: “Balak, king of the Moabites, has led me from Aram, from the mountains of the east. ‘Come forth,’ he said, ‘and curse Jacob. Hurry and condemn Israel.’
8 ¿Cómo maldeciré a quien Dios no ha maldecido? ¿Cómo execraré a quien Dios no ha execrado?	8 How shall I curse him, whom God has not cursed? For what reason would I condemn him, whom the Lord does not condemn?
9 Cuando lo miro desde la cima de las montañas y lo contemplo desde las colinas, veo un pueblo que vive aparte y no se cuenta entre las naciones.	9 I will look upon him from the tops of the stones, and I will consider him from the hills. This people shall dwell alone, and they shall not be counted among the nations.
10 ¿Quién puede contar el polvo de Jacob, o numerar la polvareda de Israel? ¡Que yo muera la muerte de los justos, y que mi fin sea como el suyo!».	10 Who can number the dust that is Jacob, and who can know the number of the stock of Israel? May my soul die a just death, and may my end be like theirs.”
11 Balac dijo a Balaam: «¿Qué me has hecho? Yo te traje para que maldijeras a mis enemigos, y tú los has bendecido».	11 And Balak said to Balaam: “What is this that you are doing? I called for you, in order to curse my enemies, and to the contrary, you bless them.”
12 «Yo sólo puedo repetir fielmente lo que el Señor pone en mi boca», respondió Balaam.	12 He answered him, “How can I say anything other than what the Lord orders?”
13 Entonces Balac le dijo: «Ven conmigo a otro lugar desde donde podrás verlos, si no a todos, por los menos a una parte de ellos, y maldícemelos desde allí».	13 Therefore, Balak said: “Come with me to another place, from where you may see a portion of Israel, though you cannot see them all. Curse them from there.”
14 En seguida lo llevó al campo de Sufím, en la cima del Pisgá. Allí construyó siete altares, y ofreció un novillo y un carnero en cada altar.	14 And when he had led him to a lofty place, on the top of mount Pisgah, Balaam built seven altars, and placing upon each a calf and a ram,
15 Entonces Balaam dijo a Balac: «Quédate aquí, junto a tu holocausto, mientras yo voy más allá en busca de una revelación».	15 he said to Balak, “Stand here next to your holocaust, while I continue on to meet him.”
16 El Señor se reveló a Balaam y se puso una palabra en su boca. Luego le dijo: «Regresa adonde está Balac y háblale de esta manera».	16 And when the Lord had met him, and had put the word in his mouth, he said, “Return to Balak, and you shall say this to him.”
17 Al llegar, lo encontró de pie junto a su holocausto, acompañado de los jefes de Moab. Balac le preguntó: «¿Qué ha dicho el Señor?».	17 Returning, he found him standing next to his holocaust, and the leaders of the Moabites were with him. And Balak said to him, “What has the Lord spoken?”
18 Entonces Balaam pronunció su poema, diciendo: «¡Levántate, Balac, y escucha, préstame atención, hijo de Sipor!	18 But, taking up his parable, he said: “Stand, Balak, and pay attention. Listen, you son of Zippor.
19 Dios no es un hombre, para mentir; ni es un mortal, para desdecirse: ¿Acaso él dice y no hace, promete una cosa y no cumple?	19 God is not like a man, so that he would lie, nor is he like a son of man, so that he would be changed. Therefore, having spoken, will he not act? Has he ever spoken, and not fulfilled?
20 Yo recibí la misión de bendecir: él ha bendecido y no lo puedo contradecir.	20 I was led here to bless, and I have no strength to hinder the blessing.
21 No se ve ningún mal en Jacob ni se percibe ninguna desgracia en Israel. El Señor, su Dios, está con él, y entre ellos se oye proclamar a un rey.	21 There is no idol in Jacob; neither is there a false image to be seen in Israel. The Lord his God is with him, and the resound of royal victory is in him.
22 Dios, que lo hace salir de Egipto, es para él como los cuernos de un búfalo.	22 God has led him away from Egypt; his strength is like that of the rhinoceros.
23 No hay magia en Jacob ni adivinación en Israel: a su debido tiempo se le dirá a Jacob y a Israel lo que hace Dios.	23 There is no soothsaying in Jacob, nor any divination in Israel. In their times, it shall be told to Jacob and to Israel what God has wrought.
24 Un pueblo se alza como una leona, se yergue como un león: no se recuesta hasta devorar la presa y beber la sangre de sus víctimas».	24 Behold, the people will rise up like a lioness, and lie down like a lion. But they will not lie down until they devour the prey and drink the blood of the slain.”
25 Balac dijo entonces a Balaam: «Si no lo maldices, ¡por lo menos no lo bendigas!».	25 And Balak said to Balaam, “Neither curse him, nor bless him.”
26 Pero Balaam respondió a Balac: «Ya te advertí que haría todo lo que el Señor me dijera».	26 And he said, “Have I not told you that whatever God would command of me, I would do?”
27 Luego Balac dijo a Balaam: «Ven, te llevaré a otro lugar. Tal vez Dios vea con buenos ojos que me los maldigas desde allí».	27 And Balak said to him: “Come and I will lead you to another place. If perhaps it may please God, then you may curse them from there.”
28 En seguida lo llevó a la cima del Peor, que domina la región desértica,	28 And when he had led him on to the top of mount Peor, which looks out toward the wilderness,
29 y Balaam dijo a Balac: «Constrúyeme aquí siete altares y prepárame siete novillos y siete carneros».	29 Balaam said to him, “Build seven altars here for me, and prepare as many calves, and the same number of rams.”
30 Balac hizo lo que Balaam le había indicado, y ofreció un novillo y un carnero en cada altar.	30 Balak did as Balaam had said, and he placed on each altar a calf and a ram.
