Jeremías 3

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 La palabra del Señor llegó a mí en estos términos: Si un hombre repudia a su mujer y ella, al irse de lado, llega a ser la mujer de otro, ¿puede aquel volver de nuevo a ella? ¿No está acaso esa mujer irremediablemente mancillada? Y tú, que te has prostituido con tantos amantes, ¿podrás volver a mí? –oráculo del Señor–.	1 “It is commonly said: ‘If a man has divorced his wife, and she departs from him, she will marry another man.’ So why would he return to her again? Is not that woman polluted and defiled? But you have fornicated yourself with many lovers. Even so, return to me, says the Lord, and I will accept you.
2 Alza tus ojos a los montes desolados y mira: ¿dónde no has sido violada? Te sentabas a la espera junto a los caminos, como el árabe en el desierto; así has contaminado el país con tus prostituciones y tu maldad.	2 Lift your eyes straight up, and see where you did not debase yourself. You were sitting in the roadways, waiting for them, like a robber in the wilderness. And you have polluted the land by your fornications and by your wickedness.
3 Por eso se detuvieron los aguaceros y no hubo lluvia de primavera. Pero tú tenías frente de prostituta, rehusabas avergonzarte.	3 For this reason, the rain showers were withheld, and there were no late season rains. You made your face like that of a promiscuous woman; you were not willing to blush.
4 Y aún ahora me gritas: «¡Padre mío! ¡Tú eres el amigo de mi juventud!	4 Therefore, at least from this moment on, call out to me: ‘You are my father, the guide of my virginity.’
5 ¿Acaso él guardará rencor eternamente? ¿Mantendrá su ira para siempre?». ¡Tú hablas así y haces el mal a más no poder!	5 Why should you be angry unceasingly? And will you continue in this to the end? Behold, you have spoken and done evil, for you were able to do so.”
6 El Señor me dijo en los días del rey Josías: ¿Has visto lo que hizo la apóstata Israel? Se ha ido a toda montaña elevada y bajo todo árbol frondoso, para prostituirse allí.	6 And, in the days of king Josiah, the Lord said to me: “Have you not seen what the apostate Israel has done? She has brought herself up to every lofty mountain, and she has lain down under every leafy tree, and she has committed fornication there.
7 Yo pensaba: Después de hacer todo esto, ella volverá otra vez a mí. ¡Pero no ha vuelto! Su hermana, la traidora Judá, ha visto esto:	7 And when she had done all these things, I said: ‘Return to me.’ But she did not return. And her deceitful sister Judah saw this:
8 ella vio que, por todos los adulterios había cometido la apóstata Israel, yo la había repudiado y le había dado el acta de divorcio, Pero la traidora Judá, su hermana, no sintió ningún temor, sino que fue y también ella se prostituyó.	8 that because the apostate Israel had committed adultery, I had dismissed her and had given her a bill of divorce. Yet her deceitful sister Judah was not afraid. But she, too, went and committed fornication herself.
9 Así, con su frívola prostitución profanó el país, cometiendo el adulterio con la piedra y la madera.	9 And by the act of her fornication, she defiled the land. For she committed adultery with that which is stone and wood.
10 A pesar de todo esto, su hermana, la traidora Judá, no volvió a mí de todo corazón, sino sólo engañosamente –oráculo del Señor–.	10 And after all these things, her deceitful sister Judah has not returned to me with her whole heart, but with lies, says the Lord.”
11 El Señor me dijo: La apóstata Israel se ha mostrado más justa que la traidora Judá.	11 And the Lord said to me: “The apostate Israel has justified her own soul by comparing herself to the deceitful Judah.
12 Ve entonces a gritar estas palabras hacia el Norte: ¡Vuelve, apóstata Israel –oráculo del Señor– y no te mostraré un rostro severo, porque yo soy misericordioso –oráculo del Señor– y no guardo rencor para siempre.	12 Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and you shall say: Return, O apostate Israel, says the Lord. For I will not avert my face from you. For I am holy, says the Lord, and I will not be angry forever.
13 Pero reconoce tu culpa, porque te has rebelado contra el Señor, tu Dios, y has prodigado tus favores a los extranjeros, bajo todo árbol frondoso: ¡ustedes no han escuchado mi voz! –oráculo del Señor–.	13 So then, truly acknowledge your iniquity, that you have betrayed the Lord your God, and that you have spread your ways to strangers, under every leafy tree, and that you have not listened to my voice, says the Lord.
14 ¡Vuelvan, hijos apóstatas –oráculo del Señor– porque yo soy el dueño de ustedes! Yo los tomaré, a uno de una ciudad y a dos de una familia, y los conduciré a Sión.	14 Convert, O rebellious sons, says the Lord. For I am your leader. And so, I will take you, one from a city, and two from a family, and I will lead you into Zion.
15 Después les daré pastores según mi corazón, que los apacentarán con ciencia y prudencia.	15 And I will give you pastors according to my own heart. And they will feed you with knowledge and doctrine.
16 Y cuando ustedes se hayan multiplicado y fructificado en el país, en aquellos días –oráculo del Señor– ya no se hablará más del Arca de la Alianza del Señor, ni se pensará más en ella; no se la recordará, ni se la echará de menos, ni se la volverá a fabricar.	16 And when you have been multiplied and increased in the land in those days, says the Lord, they will no longer say: ‘The Ark of the covenant of the Lord!’ And it will not enter into the heart, and they will not call it to mind. It will neither be visited, nor made use of, any longer.
17 En aquel tiempo, se llamará a Jerusalén «Trono del Señor»; todas las naciones se reunirán en ella, y ya no seguirán más los impulsos de su corazón obstinado y perverso.	17 In that time, Jerusalem will be called: ‘The Throne of the Lord.’ And all the nations will be gathered to it, in the name of the Lord, in Jerusalem. And they will not walk after the depravity of their own most wicked heart.
18 En aquellos días, la casa de Judá irá hacia la casa de Israel, y ellas vendrán juntas del país del Norte a la tierra que yo di a sus padres en herencia.	18 In those days, the house of Judah will go to the house of Israel, and they will come from the land of the north, at the same time, to the land that I gave to your fathers.
19 Yo me había dicho: ¡Cómo quisiera contarte entre mis hijos y darte una tierra deliciosa, la herencia más hermosa de las naciones! Yo me había dicho: Tú me llamarás «Mi padre», y nunca dejarás de ir detrás de mí.	19 But I said: How shall I place you among the sons, and distribute to you a desirable land, the preeminent inheritance of the host of the Gentiles? And I said: You will call me Father, and you will not cease to walk after me.
20 Pero como una mujer traiciona a su marido, así me han traicionado ustedes, casa de Israel –oráculo del Señor–.	20 But, in the same way that a woman spurns her lover, so also has the house of Israel spurned me, says the Lord.”
21 En los montes desolados se escucha una voz: son llantos y súplicas de los hijos de Israel, porque han tomado por un camino torcido, se han olvidado del Señor, su Dios.	21 A voice has been heard in the highways, the weeping and wailing of the sons of Israel. For they have made their own ways sinful; they have forgotten the Lord their God.
22 –¡Vuelvan, hijos apóstatas, yo los sanaré de sus apostasías! –Aquí estamos, venimos hacia ti, porque tú eres el Señor, nuestro Dios.	22 “Convert, O rebellious sons! And I will heal your rebelliousness.” “Behold, we are returning to you. For you are the Lord our God!
23 ¡Sí, son una mentira las colinas y el tumulto de las montañas! ¡Sí, en el Señor, nuestro Dios, está la salvación de Israel!	23 Truly, the hills were liars, with the multitude of the mountains. Truly, the salvation of Israel is in the Lord our God.
24 La Ignominia ha devorado las ganancias de nuestros padres desde nuestra juventud: sus ovejas y sus vacas, sus hijos y sus hijas.	24 Confusion has devoured the labor of our fathers, from our youth, with their flocks and their herds, with their sons and their daughters.
25 Acostémonos en nuestra ignominia y que nos cubra nuestra vergüenza, porque hemos pecado contra el Señor, nuestro Dios, nosotros y nuestros padres, desde nuestra juventud hasta el día de hoy, y no hemos escuchado la voz del Señor, nuestro Dios.	25 We will sleep in our confusion, and our disgrace will cover us. For we have sinned against the Lord our God: we and our fathers, from our youth, even to this day. And we have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God.”
