1 Después de estos acontecimientos y de todas estas pruebas de fidelidad, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, invadió Judá, sitió las ciudades fortificadas y mandó expugnarlas.	1 But after he had proved his fidelity by such deeds, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, came. He invaded Judah, besieged the fortified cities, and proposed to take them by storm.
2 Cuando Ezequías vio que Senaquerib había venido con la intención de atacar a Jerusalén,	2 When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was coming with the intention of attacking Jerusalem,
3 consultó a sus jefes y a sus guerreros sobre la conveniencia de cortar el agua de las fuentes que estaban fuera de la ciudad, y ellos lo apoyaron.	3 he decided in counsel with his princes and warriors to stop the waters of the springs outside the city. When they had pledged him their support,
4 Entonces se reunió una gran multitud y taparon todas las fuentes y el arroyo que corría en medio de esa región, diciendo: «Así, cuando lleguen los reyes de Asiria, no encontrarán agua en abundancia».	4 a large crowd was gathered which stopped all the springs and also the running stream in the valley nearby. For they said, "Why should the kings of Assyria come and find an abundance of water?"
5 Ezequías obró con decisión: reparó todas las brechas de la muralla, levantó torres sobre ella y otro muro por fuera, fortificó el Miló en la Ciudad de David y fabricó gran cantidad de dardos y escudos.	5 He then looked to his defenses: he rebuilt the wall where it was broken down, raised towers upon it, and built another wall outside. He strengthened the Millo of the City of David and had a great number of spears and shields prepared.
6 También puso jefes militares al frente del pueblo, los reunió junto a él en la plaza de la puerta de la ciudad, y los animó diciéndoles:	6 Then he appointed army commanders over the people. He gathered them together in his presence in the open space at the gate of the city and encouraged them with these words:
7 «¡Sean fuertes y tengan valor! No teman ni se acobarden ante el rey de Asiria y ante toda la multitud que lo acompaña, porque el que está con nosotros es más poderoso que el que está con él.	7 "Be brave and steadfast; do not be afraid or dismayed because of the king of Assyria and all the throng that is coming with him, for there is more with us than with him.
8 Con él no hay más que un brazo de carne, pero con nosotros está el Señor, nuestro Dios, para socorrernos y combatir a nuestro lado». El pueblo se sintió reconfortado por las palabras de Ezequías, rey de Judá.	8 For he has only an arm of flesh, but we have the LORD, our God, to help us and to fight our battles." And the people took confidence from the words of King Hezekiah of Judah.
9 Después de esto, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, que se encontraba en Laquis con todas sus tropas, envió a sus servidores a Jerusalén para decir a Ezequías, rey de Judá, y a todo el pueblo de Judá que estaba en Jerusalén:	9 After this, while Sennacherib, king of Assyria, himself remained at Lachish with all his forces, he sent his officials to Jerusalem with this message for King Hezekiah of Judah, and all the Judahites who were in Jerusalem:
10 «Así habla Senaquerib, rey de Asiria: ¿En qué confían ustedes para permanecer sitiados en Jerusalén?	10 "King Sennacherib of Assyria has this to say: On what are you relying, while you remain under siege in Jerusalem?
11 ¿No ven que Ezequías los está engañando y que él los expone a morir de hambre y de sed, cuando dice: «El Señor, nuestro Dios, nos librará de la mano del rey de Asiria»?	11 Has not Hezekiah deceived you, delivering you over to a death of famine and thirst, by his claim that 'the LORD, our God, will save us from the grasp of the king of Assyria'?
12 ¿No ha sido el mismo Ezequías el que eliminó sus lugares altos y sus altares, diciendo a Judá y a Jerusalén: «Sólo ante un altar se postrarán y sobre él quemarán incienso»?	12 Has not this same Hezekiah removed his high places and altars and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, 'You shall prostrate yourselves before one altar only, and on it alone you shall offer incense'?
13 Ustedes saben muy bien lo que hemos hecho, yo y mis padres, y a todos los pueblos de las diversas regiones. ¿Acaso los dioses de esas naciones pudieron salvar a sus países de mis manos?	13 Do you not know what my fathers and I have done to all the peoples of other lands? Were the gods of the nations in those lands able to save their lands from my hand?
14 Entre todos los dioses de esas naciones que mis padres consagraron al exterminio, ¿hubo alguno capaz de librar a su pueblo de mis manos? ¡Tampoco su dios podrá entonces librarlos a ustedes!	14 Who among all the gods of those nations which my fathers put under the ban was able to save his people from my hand? Will your god, then, be able to save you from my hand?
15 ¡Que Ezequías no los engañe ni los seduzca de esa manera! No le crean, porque ningún dios de ninguna nación ni de ningún reino pudo salvar a su pueblo de mis manos ni de las manos de mis padres: ¡cuánto menos su dios podrá librarlos a ustedes!».	15 Let not Hezekiah mislead you further and deceive you in any such way. Do not believe him! Since no other god of any other nation or kingdom has been able to save his people from my hand or the hands of my fathers, how much the less shall your god save you from my hand!"
16 Mientras los servidores de Senaquerib seguían hablando contra el Señor Dios y contra Ezequías, su servidor,	16 His officials said still more against the LORD God and against his servant Hezekiah,
17 Senaquerib escribió una carta para ultrajar al Señor, el Dios de Israel, y desafiarlo en estos términos: «Así como en los otros países los dioses de las naciones no han podido librar a sus pueblos, tampoco podré el dio de Ezequías librar a su pueblo de mis manos».	17 for he had written letters to deride the LORD, the God of Israel, speaking of him in these terms: "As the gods of the nations in other lands have not saved their people from my hand, neither shall Hezekiah's god save his people from my hand."
18 Los servidores de Senaquerib gritaban a voz en cuello, en lengua hebrea, al pueblo de Jerusalén que se hallaba sobre la muralla, para intimidarlos y asustarlos, a fin de apoderarse de la ciudad.	18 In a loud voice they shouted in the Judean language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten and terrify them so that they might capture their city.
19 Y hablaban del Dios de Jerusalén como si fuera uno de los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, obra de manos humanas.	19 They spoke of the God of Israel as though he were one of the gods of the other peoples of the earth, a work of human hands.
20 El rey Ezequías y el profeta Isaías, hijo de Amós, oraron y clamaron al Cielo.	20 But because of this, King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, son of Amos, prayed and called out to heaven.
21 Entonces el Señor envió un ángel que aniquiló a todos los guerreros valientes, a los jefes y a los oficiales en el campamento del rey de Asiria. Este tuvo que volver a su país, completamente avergonzado, y allí, al entrar en el templo de su dio, algunos de sus hijos lo asesinaron.	21 Then the LORD sent an angel, who destroyed every valiant warrior, leader and commander in the camp of the Assyrian king, so that he had to return shamefaced to his own country. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own offspring struck him down there with the sword.
22 Así salvó el Señor a Ezequías y a los habitantes de Jerusalén de las manos de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, y de las manos de todos los demás, y les dio paz en todas sus fronteras.	22 Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib, king of Assyria, as from every other power; he gave them rest on every side.
23 Muchos llevaron a Jerusalén ofrendas para el Señor y regalos para Ezequías, rey de Judá, el cual, después de esto, adquirió gran prestigio ante todas las naciones.	23 Many brought gifts for the LORD to Jerusalem and costly objects for King Hezekiah of Judah, who thereafter was exalted in the eyes of all the nations.
24 En aquel tiempo, Ezequías cayó gravemente enfermo y estuvo a punto de morir. Entonces imploró al Señor; el Señor le respondió y le concedió una señal extraordinaria.	24 In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill. He prayed to the LORD, who answered him by giving him a sign.
25 Pero Ezequías no correspondió al beneficio recibido: al contrario, su corazón se ensoberbeció, y así atrajo la ira del Señor contra él, contra Judá y contra Jerusalén.	25 Hezekiah, however, did not then discharge his debt of gratitude, for he had become proud. Therefore anger descended upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
26 Ezequías se arrepintió de su orgullo, junto con los habitantes de Jerusalén, y la ira del Señor no se abatió más sobre ellos en tiempos de Ezequías.	26 But then Hezekiah humbled himself for his pride--both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and therefore the LORD did not vent his anger on them during the time of Hezekiah.
27 Ezequías tuvo riquezas y gloria en abundancia. Adquirió tesoros de plata, oro, piedras preciosas, aromas, escudos y toda clase de objetos valiosos,	27 Hezekiah possessed very great wealth and glory. He had treasuries made for his silver, gold, precious stones, spices, jewels, and other precious things of all kinds;
28 así como depósitos para sus provisiones de trigo, de vino y de aceite, establos para toda clase de ganado y rebaños para los establos.	28 also storehouses for the harvest of grain, for wine and oil, and barns for the various kinds of cattle and for the flocks.
29 Levantó ciudades y tuvo gran cantidad de rebaños y ganado menor y mayor, porque Dios le había dado muchísimos bienes.	29 He built cities for himself, and he acquired sheep and oxen in great numbers, for God gave him very great riches.
30 Ezequías fue el que obstruyó la salida superior de las aguas de Guijón y las canalizó bajo tierra hacia la parte occidental de la Ciudad de David. Ezequías tuvo éxito en todas sus empresas.	30 This same Hezekiah stopped the upper outflow of water from Gihon and led it underground westward to the City of David. Hezekiah prospered in all his undertakings.
31 Sin embargo, durante las conversaciones con los príncipes de Babilonia, enviados para informarse sobre la seña; extraordinaria ocurrida en el país, Dios lo abandonó para ponerlo a prueba y conocer sus sentimientos.	31 Nevertheless, in respect to the ambassadors (princes) sent to him from Babylon to investigate the sign that had occurred in the land, God forsook him to test him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
32 El resto de los hechos de Ezequías y sus obras de piedad están escritos en la Visión del profeta Isaías, hijo de Amós, y en el Libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.	32 The rest of Hezekiah's acts, including his pious works, can be found written in the Vision of the Prophet Isaiah, son of Amos, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
33 Ezequías se fue a descansar con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en la cuesta de los sepulcros de los hijos de David. Todos los habitantes de Judá y de Jerusalén le tributaron honras fúnebres. Su hijo Manasés reinó en lugar de él.	33 Hezekiah rested with his ancestors; he was buried at the approach to the tombs of the descendants of David. All Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem paid him honor at his death. His son Manasseh succeeded him as king.
