2 Samuel 16

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 David acababa de pasar la cumbre, cuando le salió al encuentro Sibá, el servidor de Meribaal, con un par de asnos ensillados y cargados con doscientos panes, cien racimos de pasas de uva, cien frutas frescas y un odre de vino.	1 When David had passed a little beyond the summit, Meribbaal's retainer, Ziba, met him with a pair ofdonkeys, saddled and laden with two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred bunches of raisins, a hundred of theseason's fruits, and a skin of wine.
2 El rey dijo a Sibá: «¿Qué vas a hacer con eso?». Sibá respondió: «Los asnos servirán de cabalgadura a la familia del rey; el pan y la fruta son para que coman los jóvenes, y el vino, para que beban los que desfallezcan en el desierto».	2 The king said to Ziba, 'What are you going to do with that?' 'The donkeys', Ziba replied, 'are for theking's family to ride, the bread and the fruit for the soldiers to eat, the wine is for drinking by those who getexhausted in the desert.'
3 El rey le preguntó: «¿Dónde está el hijo de tu señor?». Sibá respondió al rey: «Se ha quedado en Jerusalén, diciendo: «Hoy la casa de Israel me devolverá el reino de mi padre».	3 The king asked 'And where is your master's son?' Ziba replied to the king, 'Why, he has stayed inJerusalem because, he says, "Today, the House of Israel wil give me back my father's kingdom." '
4 El rey dijo a Sibá: «Desde ahora te pertenecen todos los bienes de Meribaal». Sibá respondió: «¡A tus pies! ¡Quiera mi señor, el rey, dispensarme siempre su favor!».	4 Then the king said to Ziba, 'Everything owned by Meribbaal is yours.' Ziba said, 'I prostrate myself!May I be worthy of your favour, my lord king!'
5 Cuando el rey llegaba a Bajurím salió de allí un hombre del mismo clan que la casa de Saúl, llamado Simei, hijo de Guerá. Mientras salía, iba lanzando maldiciones,	5 As David was reaching Bahurim, out came a man of the same clan as Saul's family. His name wasShimei son of Gera and, as he came, he uttered curse after curse
6 y arrojaba piedras contra David y contra sus servidores, a pesar de que todo el pueblo y todos los guerreros marchaban a la derecha y a la izquierda del rey.	6 and threw stones at David and at al King David's retinue, even though the whole army and al thechampions formed an escort round the king on either side.
7 Y al maldecirlo, decía: «¡Fuera, fuera, hombre sanguinario y canalla!	7 The words of his curse were these, 'Off with you, off with you, man of blood, scoundrel!
8 El Señor hace recaer sobre ti toda la sangre de la casa de Saúl, a quien tú has usurpado el reino. ¡El Señor ha puesto la realeza en manos de tu hijo Absalón, mientras que tú has caído en desgracia, porque eres un sanguinario!».	8 Yahweh has paid you back for all the spilt blood of the House of Saul whose sovereignty you haveusurped; and Yahweh has transferred the sovereign power to Absalom your son. Now your wickedness hasovertaken you, man of blood that you are.'
9 Abisai, hijo de Seruiá, dijo al rey: «¿Cómo ese perro muerto va a maldecir a mi señor, el rey? ¡Deja que me cruce y le cortaré la cabeza!».	9 Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king, 'Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me goover and cut his head off.'
10 Pero el rey replicó: «¿Qué tengo que ver yo con ustedes, hijos de Seruiá? Si él maldice, es porque el Señor le ha dicho: «¡Maldice a David!». ¿Quién podrá entonces reprochárselo?».	10 But the king replied, 'What concern is my business to you, sons of Zeruiah? Let him curse! If Yahwehhas said to him, "Curse David!" what right has anyone to say, "Why have you done so?" '
11 Luego David dijo a Abisai y a todos sus servidores: «Si un hijo mío, nacido de mis entrañas, quiere quitarme la vida, ¡cuánto más este benjaminita! Déjenlo que maldiga, si así se lo ha dicho el Señor.	11 David said to Abishai and al his retinue, 'Why, the son sprung from my own body is now seeking mylife; al the more reason for this Benjaminite to do so! Let him curse on, if Yahweh has told him to!
12 Quizá el Señor mire con humillación y me devuelve la felicidad, a cambio de esta maldición que hoy recibo de él».	12 Perhaps Yahweh wil look on my wretchedness and wil repay me with good for his curses today.'
13 David siguió con sus hombres por el camino, mientras Simei iba por la ladera de la montaña, al costo de él; y a medida que avanzaba, profería maldiciones, arrojaba piedras y levantaba polvo.	13 So David and his men went on their way, and Shimei kept pace with him along the oppositemountainside, cursing as he went, throwing stones and flinging dust.
14 David y su gente llegaron rendidos, y allí retomaron aliento.	14 The king and al the people who were with him arrived exhausted at . . . . . . and there they drewbreath.
15 Mientras tanto, Absalón había entrado en Jerusalén con todos los hombres de Israel, y Ajitófel lo acompañaba.	15 Absalom entered Jerusalem with al the men of Israel; with him was Ahithophel.
16 Cuando Jusai, el arquita, el amigo de David, llegó a donde estaba Absalón, le dijo: «¡Viva el rey! ¡Viva el rey!».	16 When Hushai the Archite, David's friend, reached Absalom, Hushai said to Absalom, 'Long live theking! Long live the king!'
17 Pero Absalón replicó a Jusai: «¿Esa es tu lealtad hacia tu amigo? ¿Por qué no te has ido con él?».	17 Absalom said to Hushai, 'Is this your faithful love for your friend? Why didn't you go away with yourfriend?'
18 Entonces Jusai dijo a Absalón» «¡No, de ninguna manera! Yo estoy con aquel a quien ha elegido el Señor, y también esta gente y todos los hombres de Israel. ¡Con él me quedaré!	18 Hushai replied to Absalom, 'No, the man whom Yahweh and this people and al the men of Israelhave chosen, he is the man for me, and with him wil I stay!
19 Después de todo, ¿a quién voy a servir? ¿No es acaso a su hijo? Como estuve al servicio de tu padre, así te servirá a ti».	19 Besides, whom should I serve, if not his son? As I served your father, so shal I serve you.'
20 Luego Absalón dijo a Ajitófel: «¡Deliberen a ver qué nos conviene hacer!».	20 Absalom said to Ahithophel, 'Think careful y. What shal we do?'
21 Ajitófel dijo a Absalón: «Unete a las concubinas que dejó tu padre al cuidado de su casa. Así todo Israel sabrá que has roto con tu padre, y tus partidarios se sentirán fortalecidos».	21 Ahithophel replied to Absalom, 'Go to your father's concubines whom he left to look after the palace;then al Israel wil hear that you have thoroughly antagonised your father, and the resolution of all yoursupporters wil be strengthened.'
22 Entonces le instalaron a Absalón una carpa en la azotea, y él se unió a las concubinas de su padre, a la vista de todo Israel.	22 So a tent was pitched for Absalom on the flat roof and, with al Israel watching, Absalom went to hisfather's concubines.
23 En aquella época, se buscaba el consejo de Ajitófel como un oráculo divino: tal era la estima que tenían por sus consejos tanto David como Absalón.	23 At the time, whatever advice Ahithophel gave was treated like a decision obtained from God; as byDavid, so by Absalom, was al Ahithophel's advice regarded.
