2 Samuel 12

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Entonces el Señor le envió al profeta Natán. El se presentó a David y le dijo: «Había dos hombres en una misma ciudad, uno rico y el otro pobre.	1 Yahweh sent the prophet Nathan to David. He came to him and said: In the same town were two men,one rich, the other poor.
2 El rico tenía una enorme cantidad de ovejas y de bueyes.	2 The rich man had flocks and herds in great abundance;
3 El pobre no tenía nada, fuera de una sola oveja pequeña que había comprado. La iba criando, y ella crecía junto a él y a sus hijos: comía de su pan, bebía de su copa y dormía en su regazo. ¡Era para él como una hija!	3 the poor man had nothing but a ewe lamb, only a single little one which he had bought. He fostered itand it grew up with him and his children, eating his bread, drinking from his cup, sleeping in his arms; it was likea daughter to him.
4 Pero llegó un viajero a la casa del hombre rico, y este no quiso sacrificar un animal de su propio ganado para agasajar al huésped que había recibido. Tomó en cambio la oveja del hombre pobre, y se la preparó al que le había llegado de visita».	4 When a traveller came to stay, the rich man would not take anything from his own flock or herd toprovide for the wayfarer who had come to him. Instead, he stole the poor man's lamb and prepared that for hisguest.
5 David se enfureció contra aquel hombre y dijo a Natán: «¡Por la vida del Señor, el hombre que ha hecho eso merece la muerte!	5 David flew into a great rage with the man. 'As Yahweh lives,' he said to Nathan 'the man who did thisdeserves to die.
6 Pagará cuatro veces el valor de la oveja, por haber obrado así y no haber tenido compasión».	6 For doing such a thing and for having shown no pity, he shal make fourfold restitution for the lamb.'
7 Entonces Natán dijo a David: «¡Ese hombre eres tú! Así habla el Señor, el Dios de Israel: Yo te ungí rey de Israel y te libré de las manos de Saúl;	7 Nathan then said to David, 'You are the man! Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I anointed you king ofIsrael, I saved you from Saul's clutches,
8 te entregué la casa de tu señor y puse a sus mujeres en tus brazos; te di la casa de Israel y de Judá, y por si esto fuera poco, añadiría otro tanto y aún más.	8 I gave you your master's household and your master's wives into your arms, I gave you the House ofIsrael and the House of Judah; and, if this is stil too little, I shal give you other things as wel .
9 ¿Por qué entonces has despreciado la palabra del Señor, haciendo lo que es malo a sus ojos? ¡Tú has matado al filo de la espada a Urías, el hitita! Has tomado por esposa a su mujer, y a él lo has hecho morir bajo la espada de los amonitas.	9 Why did you show contempt for Yahweh, by doing what displeases him? You put Uriah the Hittite tothe sword, you took his wife to be your wife, causing his death by the sword of the Ammonites.
10 Por eso, la espada nunca más se apartará de tu casa, ya que me has despreciado y has tomado por esposa a la mujer de Urías, el hitita.	10 For this, your household wil never be free of the sword, since you showed contempt for me and tookthe wife of Uriah the Hittite, to make her your wife."
11 Así habla el Señor: «Yo haré surgir de tu misma casa la desgracia contra ti. Arrebataré a tus mujeres ante tus propios ojos y se las daré a otro, que se acostará con ellas en pleno día.	11 'Yahweh says this, "Out of your own household I shal raise misfortune for you. Before your very eyesI shal take your wives and give them to your neighbour, who wil lie with your wives in broad daylight.
12 Porque tú has obrado ocultamente, pero yo lo haré delante de todo Israel y a la luz del sol».	12 You have worked in secret, but I shall work this for al Israel to see, in broad daylight." '
13 David dijo a Natán: «¡He pecado contra el Señor!». Natán le respondió: «El Señor, por su parte, ha borrado tu pecado: no morirás.	13 David said to Nathan, 'I have sinned against Yahweh.' Nathan then said to David, 'Yahweh, for hispart, forgives your sin; you are not to die.
14 No obstante, porque con esto has ultrajado gravemente al Señor, el niño que te ha nacido morirá sin remedio».	14 But, since you have outraged Yahweh by doing this, the child born to you wil die.'
15 Y Natán se fue a su casa.	15 And Nathan went home. Yahweh struck the child which Uriah's wife had borne to David and it felgravely il .
16 David recurrió a Dios en favor del niño: ayunó rigurosamente, y cuando se retiraba por la noche, se acostaba en el suelo.	16 David pleaded with Yahweh for the child; he kept a strict fast and went home and spent the nightlying on the ground, covered with sacking.
17 Los ancianos de su casa le insistieron para que se levantara del suelo, pero él se negó y no quiso comer nada con ellos.	17 The officials of his household stood round him, intending to get him off the ground, but he refused,nor would he take food with them.
18 Al séptimo día, el niño murió. Los servidores de David no se atrevían a darle la noticia, porque se decían: «Si cuando el niño estaba vivo le hablábamos y no nos escuchaba, ¿cómo le vamos a decir que el niño está muerto? ¡Es capaz de hacer un disparate!».	18 On the seventh day the child died. David's retinue were afraid to tel him that the child was dead.'Even when the child was alive', they thought, 'we reasoned with him and he would not listen to us. How can wetel him that the child is dead? He wil do something desperate.'
19 Pero David advirtió que sus servidores hablaban sigilosamente entre ellos, y comprendió que el niño había muerto. Entonces les preguntó: «¿Ha muerto el niño?». Y ellos le dijeron: «Sí, está muerto».	19 David, however, noticed that his retinue were whispering among themselves, and realised that thechild was dead. 'Is the child dead?' he asked the officers. They replied, 'He is dead.'
20 David se levantó del suelo, se bañó, se perfumó y se cambió de ropa. Luego entró en la Casa del Señor y se postró. Una vez que volvió a su casa, pidió que le sirvieran de comer y comió.	20 David got off the ground, bathed and anointed himself and put on fresh clothes. Then he went intoYahweh's sanctuary and prostrated himself. On returning to his house, he asked to be served with food and ateit.
21 Sus servidores le dijeron: «¿Qué modo de proceder es este? Cuando el niño estaba vivo, ayunabas y llorabas. ¡Y ahora que él ha muerto, te levantas y te poner a comer!».	21 His retinue said, 'Why are you acting like this? When the child was alive, you fasted and wept; nowthat the child is dead, you get up and take food!'
22 El respondió: «Mientras el niño vivía, yo ayunaba y lloraba, pensando: ¿Quién sabe? A lo mejor el Señor se apiada de mí y el niño se cura».	22 'When the child was alive', he replied, 'I fasted and wept because I kept thinking, "Who knows?Perhaps Yahweh wil take pity on me and the child wil live."
23 Pero ahora que está muerto, ¿Para qué voy a ayunar? ¿Acaso podré hacerlo volver? Yo iré hacia él, pero él no volverá hacia mí».	23 But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shal go to him but hecannot come back to me.'
24 David consoló a Betsabé, su mujer, y se unió a ella. Ella concibió y dio a luz un hijo, al que llamó Salomón. El Señor lo amó,	24 David consoled his wife Bathsheba. He went to her and slept with her. She conceived and gave birthto a son, whom she called Solomon. Yahweh loved him
25 y por medio del profeta Natán, mandó ponerle el sobrenombre de Iedidiá –que significa «Amado del Señor»– conforme a la palabra del Señor.	25 and made this known by means of the prophet Nathan, who named him Jedidiah, as Yahweh hadinstructed.
26 Joab atacó a Rabá de los amonitas y tomó la ciudad real.	26 Joab assaulted Rabbah-of-the-Ammonites and captured the royal town.
27 Luego envió mensajeros a David para decirle: «Acometí contra Rabá y conquisté también la ciudad de las Aguas.	27 He then sent messengers to tel David, 'I have assaulted Rabbah and captured the water supply.
28 Ahora reúne el resto del ejército y acampa contra la ciudad para tomarla, no sea que la tome yo y se llame con mi nombre».	28 So now muster the rest of the army, lay siege to the town and take it, or I wil take it and the town wilbe cal ed after me!'
29 David reunió todo el ejército, fue a Rabá, la atacó y la tomó.	29 So David mustered the whole army and marched on Rabbah; he assaulted the town and captured it.
30 Después David tomó la corona de la cabeza del dios Milcón y comprobó que pesaba un talento de oro. La corona tenía una piedra preciosa que fue colocada sobre la frente de David. El se llevó también de la ciudad un enorme botín.	30 He took the crown off Milcom's head; it weighed one talent of gold, and in it was set a precious stonewhich went on David's head instead. He carried off great quantities of booty from the town.'
31 En cuanto a la población, la hizo salir de la ciudad, la obligó a trabajar con sierras, con picos de hierro y hachas, y la empleó en los hornos de ladrillos. Lo mismo hizo con todas las ciudades de los amonitas. Luego David y todo el ejército se volvieron a Jerusalén.	31 And he expel ed its inhabitants, setting them to work with saws, iron picks and iron axes, employingthem at brickmaking. He treated all the Ammonite towns in the same way. David and the whole army returned toJerusalem.
