2 Samuel 20

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Había allí un malvado llamado Seba, hijo de Bikrí, benjaminita, que hizo sonar el cuerno y dijo: «No tenemos parte con David, ni tenemos heredad con el hijo de Jesé. ¡Cada uno a sus tiendas, Israel!»	1 Now there happened to be a scoundrel there called Sheba son of Bichri, a Benjaminite, who soundedthe trumpet and shouted: We have no share in David, we have no heritage in the son of Jesse. Every man to histents, O Israel!
2 Y todos los hombres de Israel se apartaron de David para seguir a Seba, hijo de Bikrí, mientras que los hombres de Judá se adhirieron a su rey, desde el Jordán hasta Jerusalén.	2 At this al the men of Israel deserted David and followed Sheba son of Bichri. But the men of Judahstuck close to their king, from the Jordan al the way to Jerusalem.
3 David entró en su casa de Jerusalén; tomó el rey las diez concubinas que había dejado para guardar la casa y las puso bajo custodia. Proveyó a su mantenimiento, pero no se acercó a ellas y estuvieron encerradas hasta el día de su muerte, como viudas de por vida.	3 David returned to his palace in Jerusalem. The king took the ten concubines, whom he had left to lookafter the palace, and put them under guard. He provided for their upkeep but never went near them again; theywere shut away until the day they died, widows, as it were, of a living man.
4 El rey dijo a Amasá: «Convócame a los hombres de Judá y preséntate aquí dentro de tres días».	4 The king said to Amasa, 'Summon me the men of Judah and be here yourself within three days.'
5 Partió Amasá para convocar a Judá pere tardó más tiempo del señalado.	5 Amasa went off to summon Judah, but he took longer than the time fixed by David.
6 Entonces David dijo a Abisay: «Ahora Seba, hijo de Bikrí, nos va a hacer más mal que Absalón. Toma los veteranos de tu señor y parte en su persecución para que no alcance las ciudades fortificadas y se nos escape».	6 David then said to Abishai, 'Sheba son of Bichri is now in a position to do us more damage even thanAbsalom. Take your master's retainers and be after him, before he can reach any fortified towns and elude us.'
7 Salieron en pos de Abisay los hombres de Joab, los kereteos, los peleteos y todos los valientes; salieron de Jerusalén para perseguir a Seba, hijo de Bikrí.	7 Joab, the Cherethites, the Pelethites and al the champions took the field under Abishai, setting offfrom Jerusalem in pursuit of Sheba son of Bichri.
8 Estaban cerca de la piedra grande que hay en Gabaón cuando Amasá se presentó ante ellos. Vestía Joab su vestido militar y llevaba sobre él la espada, en la vaina, ceñida al costado. La espada se salió y cayó.	8 They were near the great stone at Gibeon when Amasa met them, coming the other way. Joab waswearing his uniform, over which he had buckled on a sword hanging from his waist in its scabbard; the swordcame out and fel .
9 Joab dijo a Amasá: «¿Estás bien, hermano mío?» y sujetó Joab con su mano derecha la barba de Amasá como para besarle.	9 Joab said to Amasa, 'Are you well, brother?' and, with his right hand, took Amasa by the beard to kisshim.
10 Amasá no se fijó en la espada que Joab tenía en su mano; y éste le hirió en el vientre derramando sus entrañas en tierra. No tuvo que repetir para matarle. Luego Joab y su hermano Abisay continuaron la persecución de Seba, hijo de Bikrí.	10 Amasa paid no attention to the sword, which Joab had now picked up, and Joab struck him with it inthe bel y, spil ing his entrails al over the ground. He did not need to strike a second blow; and Amasa died, whileJoab and Abishai hurried on in pursuit of Sheba son of Bichri.
11 Se quedó junto a Amasá uno de los criados de Joab que decía: «Quien quiera a Joab y quien esté por David, que siga a Joab».	11 One of Joab's men stood on guard beside Amasa, shouting, 'Whoever is on Joab's side, whoever isfor David, fol ow Joab!'
12 Amasá, envuelto en sangre, estaba en medio del camino; viendo el hombre que todo el pueblo paraba, apartó a Amasá del camino al campo, y le puso encima un vestido, porque vio que todos los que llegaban hasta él se detenían.	12 Amasa meanwhile lay wal owing in his blood in the middle of the road. Seeing that everyone wasstopping, the man dragged Amasa off the road into the field and threw a cloak over him, having realised thateveryone passing would stop.
13 Cuando Amasá fue apartado del camino, todos los hombres seguían en pos de Joab, persiguiendo a Seba, hijo de Bikrí.	13 Once Amasa had been taken off the road, the men all carried on, fol owing Joab in pursuit of Shebason of Bichri.
14 Seba atravesó todas las tribus de Israel hacia Abel Bet Maaká, y todos los bikritas... se habían reunido y entraron tras él.	14 Sheba crossed al the tribes of Israel as far as Abel Beth-Maacah, and the Bichrites al . . . Theyformed up and fol owed him.
15 Vinieron y le cercaron en Abel Bet Maaká. Alzaron junto a la ciudad un terraplén que llegaba hasta el contramuro y todo el ejército que estaba con Joab trabajaba para derribar el muro, haciendo zapa.	15 Laying siege to him in Abel Beth-Maacah, they threw up a ramp against the outer wal of the town,
16 Entonces una mujer sagaz gritó desde la ciudad: «¡Escuchad, escuchad! Decid a Joab que se acerque aquí que quiero hablarle».	16 while the whole army accompanying Joab undermined the wal to bring it down. A quick-wittedwoman shouted from the town, 'Listen!

Say to Joab, "Come here, I want to speak to you." ' He came forward, and the woman said,'Are you Joab?' 'I am', he replied. She said, 'Listen to what your servant says.' 'I am listening,' he replied.

And yet you are trying todestroy a town, a metropolis of Israel. Why do you want to devour Yahweh's heritage?'
20 Respondió Joab: «¡Lejos, lejos de mí querer destruir y aniquilar!	20 'The last thing I want to do', said Joab, 'is either to devour or to destroy.
21 No se trata de eso sino de un hombre de la montaña de Efraím, llamado Seba, hijo de Bikrí, que ha alzado su mano contra el rey, contra David. Entregadle en nuestras manos y me marcharé de la ciudad». Respondió la mujer a Joab: «Se te echará su cabeza por encima del muro».	21 This is not the issue; a man from the highlands of Ephraim, cal ed Sheba son of Bichri, has revoltedagainst the king, against David. Hand that one man over and I wil raise the siege of the town.' 'Very wel ,' thewoman said to Joab, 'his head wil be thrown over the wal to you.'
22 La mujer entró en la ciudad y habló a todo el pueblo con su habitual prudencia. Le cortaron la cabeza a Seba, hijo de Bikrí, y se la arrojaron a Joab. Entonces éste hizo sonar el cuerno y se alejaron de la ciudad cada uno a su tienda. Joab se volvió a Jerusalén junto al rey.	22 The woman went and spoke to al the people as her wisdom dictated. They cut off the head of Shebason of Bichri and threw it down to Joab. He had the trumpet sounded and they withdrew from the town and allwent home, while Joab himself went back to the king in Jerusalem.
23 Joab era jefe de todo el ejército. Benaías, hijo de Yehoyadá, era jefe de los kereteos y los peleteos.	23 Joab commanded the whole army; Benaiah son of Jehoiada commanded the Cherethites andPelethites;
24 Adoram era jefe de la leva, y Josafat, hijo de Ajilud, era el heraldo.	24 Adoram was in charge of forced labour; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was herald;
25 Seraya era secretario; Sadoq y Abiatar eran sacerdotes.	25 Shiya was secretary; Zadok and Abiathar were priests;
26 También Irá el yairita era sacerdote de David.	26 also: Ira the Jairite was David's priest.
