Génesis 34

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dina, la hija que Lía había dado a Jacob, salió una vez a ver a las mujeres del país.	1 Dinah, who was Jacob's daughter by Leah, went out to visit some of the women of that region.
2 Siquem, hijo de Jamor el jivita, príncipe de aquella tierra, la vio, se la llevó, se acostó con ella y la humilló.	2 Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, headman of the region, saw her, seized her and forced her tosleep with him.
3 Su alma se aficionó a Dina, hija de Jacob, se enamoró de la muchacha y trató de convencerla.	3 He was captivated by Dinah daughter of Jacob; he fel in love with the girl and tried to win her heart.
4 Siquem dijo a su padre Jamor: «Tómame a esta chica por mujer.»	4 Accordingly Shechem said to his father Hamor, 'Get me this girl; I want to marry her.'
5 Jacob oyó que Siquem había violado a su hija Dina, pero sus hijos estaban con el ganado en el campo, y Jacob guardó silencio hasta su llegada.	5 Meanwhile, Jacob had heard how his daughter Dinah had been dishonoured, but since his sons wereout in the countryside with his livestock, Jacob said nothing until they came back.
6 Jamor, padre de Siquem, salió a donde Jacob para hablar con él.	6 Hamor father of Shechem was visiting Jacob to discuss the matter with him,
7 Los hijos de Jacob volvieron del campo al oírlo, y se indignaron los hombres y les dio mucha rabia la afrenta hecha por Siquem acostándose con la hija de Jacob: «Eso no se hace.»	7 when Jacob's sons returned from the countryside and heard the news; the men were outraged andinfuriated that Shechem had insulted Israel by sleeping with Jacob's daughter -- a thing total y unacceptable.
8 Jamor habló con ellos diciendo: «Mi hijo Siquem se ha prendado de vuestra hija, así que dádsela por mujer.	8 Hamor reasoned with them as fol ows, 'My son Shechem's heart is set on your daughter. Please al owher to marry him.
9 Emparentad con nosotros: dadnos vuestras hijas, y tomad para vosotros la nuestras.	9 Intermarry with us; give us your daughters and take our daughters for yourselves.
10 Quedaos a vivir con nosotros: tenéis la tierra franca. Instalaos, circulad libremente y adquirid propiedades.»	10 We can live together, and the country wil be open to you, for you to live in, and move about in, andacquire holdings.'
11 Siquem dijo al padre y a los hermanos de la chica: «Ojalá me concedáis vuestro favor, y yo os daré lo que me pidáis.	11 Then Shechem addressed the girl's father and brothers, 'Grant me this favour, and I will give youwhatever you ask.
12 Pedidme cualquier dote, por grande que sea, que yo os daré cuanto me digáis; pero dadme a la muchacha por mujer.»	12 Demand as high a bride-price from me as you please, and I wil pay as much as you ask. Only let memarry the girl.'
13 Los hijos de Jacob respondieron a Siquem y a su padre Jamor con disimulo, y dirigiéndose a aquel que había violado a su hermana Dina,	13 Jacob's sons gave Shechem and his father Hamor a crafty answer, speaking as they did because hehad dishonoured their sister Dinah.
14 dijeron: «No podemos hacer tal cosa: dar nuestra hermana a uno que es incircunciso, porque eso es una vergüenza para nosotros.	14 'We cannot do this,' they said to them. 'To give our sister to an uncircumcised man would be adisgrace for us.
15 Tan sólo os la daremos a condición de que os hagáis como nosotros, circuncidándose todos vuestros varones.	15 We can agree only on one condition: that you become like us by circumcising al your males.
16 Entonces os daremos nuestras hijas, y tomaremos para nosotros las vuestras, nos quedaremos con vosotros y formaremos un solo pueblo.	16 Then we wil give you our daughters, taking yours for ourselves; and we wil stay with you to makeone nation.
17 Pero si no nos escucháis respecto a la circuncisión, entonces tomaremos a nuestra hija y nos iremos.»	17 But if you will not agree to our terms about being circumcised, we shal take our daughter and go.'
18 Sus palabras parecieron bien a Jamor y a Siquem, hijo de Jamor,	18 Hamor and Shechem son of Hamor were pleased with what they heard.
19 y el muchacho no tardó en ponerlo en práctica, porque quería a la hija de Jacob. El mismo era el más honorable de toda la casa de su padre.	19 The young man did not hesitate about doing this, for he was deeply in love with Jacob's daughter.Moreover he was the most respected member of his entire family.
20 Jamor y su hijo Siquem vinieron a la puerta de su ciudad y hablaron a todos sus conciudadanos diciéndoles:	20 Hamor and his son Shechem went to the gate of their town and spoke to their fellow-townsmen asfol ows,
21 «Estos hombres nos vienen en son de paz. Que se queden en el país y a circulen libremente, pues y a veis que pueden disponer de tierra espaciosa. Tomemos a sus hijas por mujeres y démosles las nuestras.	21 'These men are friendly; let them settle in the region and move about freely in it; there is plenty ofroom here for them; we shal marry their daughters and give our daughters to them.
22 Pero sólo con esta condición accederán estos hombres a quedarse con nosotros para formar un solo pueblo: que nos circuncidemos todos los varones; igual que ellos están circuncidados.	22 But these men will agree to settle with us and become a single nation only on this condition: that alour males be circumcised like them.
23 Sus ganados y hacienda y todas sus bestias, ¿no van a ser para nosotros? Así que lleguemos a un acuerdo con ellos y que se queden con nosotros.»	23 Wil not the livestock they own, al their animals, become ours? Then let us give our assent to this, sothat they can settle with us.'
24 Todos los que salían por la puerta de la ciudad escucharon a Jamor y a su hijo Siquem, y se circuncidó todo varón que salía por las puertas de la ciudad.	24 Al the citizens of the town agreed to the proposal made by Hamor and his son Shechem, and al themales were circumcised.
25 Pues bien, al tercer día, mientras ellos estaban adoloridos, dos hijos de Jacob, Simeón y Leví, hermanos de Dina, blandieron cada uno su espada y entrando en la ciudad sin peligro mataron a todo varón.	25 Now on the third day, when the men were stil in pain, Jacob's two sons Simeon and Levi, Dinah'sbrothers, each took his sword and advanced unopposed against the town and slaughtered al the males.
26 También mataron a Jamor y a Siquem a filo de espada, y tomando a Dina de la casa de Siquem, salieron.	26 They kil ed Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword, removed Dinah from Shechem's house andcame away.
27 Los hijos de Jacob pasaron sobre los muertos, pillaron la ciudad que había violado a su hermana,	27 When Jacob's other sons came on the slain, they pil aged the town in reprisal for the dishonouring oftheir sister.
28 se apoderaron de sus rebaños, vacadas y asnos, cuanto había en la ciudad y cuanto había en el campo,	28 They seized their flocks, cattle, donkeys, everything else in the town and in the countryside,
29 saquearon toda su hacienda y sus pequeñuelos y sus mujeres, y pillaron todo lo que había dentro.	29 and al their possessions. They took al their children and wives captive and looted everything to befound in the houses.
30 Jacob dijo a Simeón y a Leví: «Me habéis puesto a malas haciéndome odioso entre los habitantes de este país, los cananeos y los perizitas, pues yo dispongo de unos pocos hombres, y ellos van a juntarse contra mí, me atacarán y seré aniquilado yo y mi casa.»	30 Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, 'You have done me an il turn by bringing me into bad odour with thepeople of the region, the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I have few men, whereas they wil unite against me todefeat me and destroy me and my family.'
31 Replicaron ellos: «¿Es que iban a tratar a nuestra hermana como a una prostituta?»	31 They retorted, 'Should our sister be treated like a whore?'
