1 Lettre de Syméon Pierre, serviteur et apôtre de Jésus Christ, à ceux qui ont la chance de posséder une foi aussi précieuse que la nôtre et d’être sanctifiés par notre Dieu et Sauveur Jésus Christ.	1 Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained equal faith with us in the justice of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ.
2 Que la grâce et la paix grandissent en vous, en même temps que la connaissance de Dieu et de Jésus Christ, notre Seigneur!	2 Grace to you and peace be accomplished in the knowledge of God and of Christ Jesus our Lord:
3 Son pouvoir divin nous a donné tout ce qui mène à la vie et à la piété. Tout d’abord la connaissance de celui qui nous a appelés par sa propre Gloire et Puissance,	3 As all things of his divine power which appertain to life and godliness, are given us, through the knowledge of him who hath called us by his own proper glory and virtue.
4 et par elles, nous a donné ce que l’on peut offrir de plus grand et de plus précieux. Oui, par elles vous devenez participants de la nature divine et vous échappez à la corruption qui en ce monde est sœur du désir.	4 By whom he hath given us most great and precious promises: that by these you may be made partakers of the divine nature: flying the corruption of that concupiscence which is in the world.
5 Faites donc tout le nécessaire pour acquérir avec la foi la vertu, avec la vertu la connaissance,	5 And you, employing all care, minister in your faith, virtue; and in virtue, knowledge;
6 avec la connaissance la maîtrise des instincts, avec la maîtrise des instincts la persévérance, avec la persévérance l’esprit religieux,	6 And in knowledge, abstinence; and in abstinence, patience; and in patience, godliness;
7 avec l’esprit religieux l’amour fraternel, avec l’amour fraternel l’amour pur.	7 And in godliness, love of brotherhood; and in love of brotherhood, charity.
8 Si vous avez toutes ces vertus à un degré élevé, vous ne serez pas des inutiles, des improductifs, mais vous atteindrez la connaissance de Jésus Christ notre Seigneur.	8 For if these things be with you and abound, they will make you to be neither empty nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 Par contre, si quelqu’un n’a rien de tout cela, c’est un aveugle ou un myope. Il ne sait déjà plus qu’il a été purifié de ses anciens péchés.	9 For he that hath not these things with him, is blind, and groping, having forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10 Mais vous, frères, faites tout pour confirmer votre appel et votre élection. Agissez comme je dis et vous ne retomberez pas.	10 Wherefore, brethren, labour the more, that by good works you may make sure your calling and election. For doing these things, you shall not sin at any time.
11 C’est ainsi que vous sera généreusement donné l’accès au royaume éternel de notre Seigneur et sauveur Jésus Christ.	11 For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
12 Donc je ne cesserai pas de vous rappeler tout cela, bien que vous le sachiez déjà et que vous teniez fermement la vérité que vous possédez.	12 For which cause I will begin to put you always in remembrance of these things: though indeed you know them, and are confirmed in the present truth.
13 Je crois bon de vous rafraîchir la mémoire tant que je vis dans la présente demeure,	13 But I think it meet as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance.
14 car je sais que bientôt cette tente me sera enlevée de la façon que Jésus Christ notre Seigneur me l’a fait savoir.	14 Being assured that the laying away of this my tabernacle is at hand, according as our Lord Jesus Christ also hath signified to me.
15 Aussi je fais tout pour qu’après mon départ vous puissiez vous rappeler ces choses.	15 And I will endeavour, that you frequently have after my decease, whereby you may keep a memory of these things.
16 Quand nous vous avons instruits sur la puissance et le retour de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ, nous ne reprenions pas des fables bien tournées: nous-mêmes avons contemplé sa grandeur	16 For we have not by following artificial fables, made known to you the power, and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ; but we were eyewitnesses of his greatness.
17 quand il a reçu honneur et gloire de Dieu le Père. Alors, des paroles extraordinaires lui ont été adressées par la glorieuse Majesté: "Voici mon Fils, le Bien-aimé, celui en qui je me complais.”	17 For he received from God the Father, honour and glory: this voice coming down to him from the excellent glory: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
18 Cette voix envoyée du ciel, nous l’avons entendue, car nous étions avec lui sur la sainte montagne.	18 And this voice we heard brought from heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19 Moyennant quoi le message des prophètes a pris pour nous une force nouvelle: vous ferez bien de le regarder comme une lampe qui brille en un lieu obscur en attendant la clarté du jour, lorsque l’Étoile du matin se lèvera sur vos cœurs.	19 And we have the more firm prophetical word: whereunto you do well to attend, as to a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20 Sachez-le bien: aucune prophétie de l’Écriture ne peut dépendre d’une interprétation personnelle,	20 Understanding this first, that no prophecy of scripture is made by private interpretation.
21 car aucune prophétie n’est venue d’une initiative humaine, mais c’est sous l’impulsion de l’Esprit Saint que les hommes de Dieu ont parlé.	21 For prophecy came not by the will of man at any time: but the holy men of God spoke, inspired by the Holy Ghost.
