Deuxième épître à Timothée 1

1 Lettre de Paul, apôtre du Christ Jésus par décision de Dieu, pour annoncer la vie qui se trouve dans le Christ Jésus:	1 From Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus through the wil of God in accordance with his promise of life in ChristJesus,
2 Timothée, mon cher enfant, reçois de Dieu le Père et du Christ Jésus, notre Seigneur, la grâce, la miséricorde et la paix!	2 to Timothy, dear son of mine. Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus ourLord.
3 Tu es toujours présent, jour et nuit, dans mes prières, et pour toi je rends grâces à Dieu que je sers en toute sincérité comme l’ont fait mes pères.	3 Night and day I thank God whom I serve with a pure conscience as my ancestors did. I remember you inmy prayers constantly night and day;
4 Quand je me rappelle tes larmes j’ai hâte de te voir, car cela me remplirait de joie.	4 I remember your tears and long to see you again to complete my joy.
5 Je me rappelle ta foi sincère, qu’on trouvait déjà chez ta grand-mère Loïs et ta mère Eunice, et que tu as toi aussi, j’en suis sûr.	5 I also remember your sincere faith, a faith which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois, and your motherEunice, and I am sure dwel s also in you.
6 Et c’est la raison pour laquelle je veux réveiller et raviver le don de Dieu que tu as reçu quand je t’ai imposé les mains.	6 That is why I am reminding you now to fan into a flame the gift of God that you possess through thelaying on of my hands.
7 L’esprit que Dieu nous a donné n’est pas timidité, mais force, amour et maîtrise de soi.	7 God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power and love and self-control.
8 Donc ne rougis pas du martyre de notre Seigneur ni de moi quand je suis en prison pour lui. Sois capable de souffrir pour l’Évangile avec la force de Dieu.	8 So you are never to be ashamed of witnessing to our Lord, or ashamed of me for being his prisoner; butshare in my hardships for the sake of the gospel, relying on the power of God
9 Ils nous a sauvés, nous appelant pour une sainte vocation, non pas à cause de nos mérites, mais gratuitement et par décision personnelle. Cette décision, prise en Jésus Christ de toute éternité,	9 who has saved us and called us to be holy -- not because of anything we ourselves had done but for hisown purpose and by his own grace. This grace had already been granted to us, in Christ Jesus, before thebeginning of time,
10 vient de se manifester avec l’apparition de Jésus Christ, notre Sauveur, qui a détruit la mort et fait resplendir la vie dans l’immortalité grâce à l’Évangile.	10 but it has been revealed only by the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus. He has abolished death,and he has brought to light immortality and life through the gospel,
11 C’est de cela que je suis le prédicateur, l’apôtre et le maître.	11 in whose service I have been made herald, apostle and teacher.
12 C’est pour cela aussi que je souffre à présent, mais je n’en ai pas honte, car je sais à qui j’ai fait confiance, et je le sais capable de me garder mon dépôt jusqu’au grand jour.	12 That is why I am experiencing my present sufferings; but I am not ashamed, because I know in whom Ihave put my trust, and I have no doubt at all that he is able to safeguard until that Day what I have entrusted tohim.
13 Prends comme règle les saines paroles que tu m’as entendu dire sur la foi et l’amour selon Jésus Christ,	13 Keep as your pattern the sound teaching you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are inChrist Jesus.
14 et garde ce précieux dépôt grâce à l’Esprit Saint qui habite en nous.	14 With the help of the Holy Spirit who dwel s in us, look after that precious thing given in trust.
15 Tu dois savoir que tous ceux d’Asie m’ont tourné le dos, et parmi eux Phygèle et Hermogène.	15 As you know, Phygelus and Hermogenes and al the others in Asia have deserted me.
16 Que le Seigneur prenne en pitié la famille d’Onésiphore, car il m’a souvent réconforté et il n’a pas eu honte quand il m’a vu en prison.	16 I hope the Lord wil be kind to al the family of Onesiphorus, because he has often been a comfort tome and has never been ashamed of my chains.
17 Au contraire, il a fait preuve de courage, il m’a réclamé et il m’a obtenu.	17 On the contrary, as soon as he reached Rome, he searched hard for me and found me.
18 Que le Seigneur lui donne de trouver grâce devant lui quand viendra le jour; tu sais mieux que moi tout le service qu’il avait accompli à Éphèse.	18 May the Lord grant him to find the Lord's mercy on that Day. You know better than anyone else howmuch he helped me at Ephesus.
