1 Plus tard, il y a quatorze ans, je suis monté à Jérusalem avec Barnabé, et nous avons aussi emmené Tite.	1 Next, after fourteen years, I went up again to Jerusalem, taking with me Barnabas and Titus.
2 J’y suis allé à la suite d’une révélation et je leur ai exposé l’évangile que je proclame chez les païens. J’en ai parlé en privé avec ceux qui comptaient, pour le cas où j’aurais fait et ferais encore un travail qui ne mène à rien.	2 And I went up according to revelation, and I debated with them about the Gospel that I am preaching among the Gentiles, but away from those who were pretending to be something, lest perhaps I might run, or have run, in vain.
3 Mais personne n’imposa la circoncision à Tite qui était avec moi et qui est Grec.	3 But even Titus, who was with me, though he was a Gentile, was not compelled to be circumcised,
4 En effet de faux-frères s’étaient infiltrés: ils s’étaient introduits pour tout savoir de la liberté que nous avons dans le Christ Jésus, et ils voulaient nous ramener à l’esclavage.	4 but only because of false brothers, who were brought in unknowingly. They entered secretly to spy on our liberty, which we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might reduce us to servitude.
5 Mais nous ne leur avons pas cédé, pas même un instant, pour que la vérité de l’Évangile reste intacte chez vous.	5 We did not yield to them in subjection, even for an hour, in order that the truth of the Gospel would remain with you,
6 Ceux que l’on regardait comme des autorités (leur situation antérieure ne m’importe pas, car Dieu ne fait pas de favoritisme), ces autorités donc ne me firent aucune remarque.	6 and away from those who were pretending to be something. (Whatever they might have been once, it means nothing to me. God does not accept the reputation of a man.) And those who were claiming to be something had nothing to offer me.
7 Au contraire, ils reconnurent que l’évangélisation du monde païen m’avait été confiée, tout comme à Pierre l’évangélisation du monde juif.	7 But it was to the contrary, since they had seen that the Gospel to the uncircumcised was entrusted to me, just as the Gospel to the circumcised was entrusted to Peter.
8 Celui qui a donné sa grâce à Pierre pour qu’il soit l’apôtre du monde juif, m’a aussi donné sa grâce pour le monde païen.	8 For he who was working the Apostleship to the circumcised in Peter, was also working in me among the Gentiles.
9 Jacques, Képhas et Jean reconnurent la grâce que j’avais reçue. Eux, qui passaient pour les piliers de l’Église, ils nous donnèrent la main à moi et à Barnabé en signe de communion: nous irions vers les nations païennes et eux vers les Juifs.	9 And so, when they had acknowledged the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, who seemed like pillars, gave to me and to Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, so that we would go to the Gentiles, while they went to the circumcised,
10 Nous devions seulement ne pas oublier leurs pauvres, et cela, j’en ai toujours eu le souci.	10 asking only that we should be mindful of the poor, which was the very thing that I also was solicitous to do.
11 Lorsque Képhas était venu à Antioche, je lui avais résisté en face parce qu’il était dans son tort.	11 But when Cephas had arrived at Antioch, I stood against him to his face, because he was blameworthy.
12 Avant que n’arrivent des gens de l’entourage de Jacques, il mangeait avec les frères d’origine païenne, mais quand ils furent là, il prit ses distances et marqua la séparation par crainte des éléments juifs.	12 For before certain ones arrived from James, he ate with the Gentiles. But when they had arrived, he drew apart and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision.
13 Les autres Juifs aussitôt prirent le même faux visage, et Barnabé lui-même fut entraîné dans ce double jeu.	13 And the other Jews consented to his pretense, so that even Barnabas was led by them into that falseness.
14 Alors, quand je vis que ce n’était plus le droit chemin de l’Évangile dans toute sa vérité, je dis à Képhas devant tout le monde: "Toi qui es Juif de naissance, tu as laissé les façons juives pour celles des non-Juifs; pourquoi maintenant veux-tu imposer les façons juives à des non-Juifs?”	14 But when I had seen that they were not walking correctly, by the truth of the Gospel, I said to Cephas in front of everyone: “If you, while you are a Jew, are living like the Gentiles and not the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to keep the customs of the Jews?”
15 Nous sommes nés Juifs, nous n’appartenons pas à ces nations de pécheurs;	15 By nature, we are Jews, and not of the Gentiles, sinners.
16 cependant nous avons reconnu que l’on ne devient pas un juste par la pratique de la Loi, mais par la foi selon le Christ Jésus. Et nous avons cru dans le Christ Jésus pour être droits aux yeux de Dieu grâce à cette foi selon le Christ et non par la pratique de la Loi. Car si l’on s’en tient aux œuvres de la Loi, nul mortel ne sera reconnu juste.	16 And we know that man is not justified by the works of the law, but only by the faith of Jesus Christ. And so we believe in Christ Jesus, in order that we may be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law. For no flesh will be justified by the works of the law.
17 Nous sommes allés au Christ pour recevoir cette véritable droiture, et maintenant nous nous retrouverions pécheurs! Mais alors, le Christ devient un auxiliaire du péché. Impossible!	17 But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves are also found to be sinners, would then Christ be the minister of sin? Let it not be so!
18 Pourtant, regardez: si d’abord on supprime et ensuite on rétablit, on reconnaît qu’on a mal agi.	18 For if I rebuild the things that I have destroyed, I establish myself as a prevaricator.
19 Quant à moi, c’est la Loi elle-même qui m’a amené à mourir à la Loi afin de vivre pour Dieu. J’ai été crucifié avec le Christ,	19 For through the law, I have become dead to the law, so that I may live for God. I have been nailed to the cross with Christ.
20 et si maintenant je vis, ce n’est plus moi qui vis: le Christ vit en moi. Et ce que je vis maintenant dans la chair, je le vis avec cette foi où le Fils de Dieu m’a aimé et a donné sa vie pour moi.	20 I live; yet now, it is not I, but truly Christ, who lives in me. And though I live now in the flesh, I live in the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and who delivered himself for me.
21 Voilà ma façon de ne pas mépriser la générosité de Dieu. Car si l’on devient juste à partir de la Loi, le Christ est mort pour rien!	21 I do not reject the grace of God. For if justice is through the law, then Christ died in vain.
