1 Un jour de sabbat Jésus se rendit chez un personnage important des Pharisiens pour y prendre le repas; tous étaient là et l’observaient.	1 And it happened that, when Jesus entered the house of a certain leader of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to eat bread, they were observing him.
2 Or il y avait là devant lui un homme atteint d’hydropisie.	2 And behold, a certain man before him was afflicted with edema.
3 Jésus pose alors la question aux maîtres de la Loi et aux Pharisiens: "Oui ou non, est-il permis de guérir un jour de sabbat?”	3 And responding, Jesus spoke to the experts in the law and to the Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to cure on the Sabbath?”
4 Ils gardent le silence. Jésus prend donc soin de l’infirme, le guérit et le renvoie.	4 But they kept silent. Yet truly, taking hold of him, he healed him and sent him away.
5 Puis il leur dit: "Si votre fils ou votre bœuf tombe dans un puits un jour de sabbat, lequel d’entre vous ne l’en retirera pas aussitôt?”	5 And responding to them, he said, “Which of you will have a donkey or an ox fall into a pit, and will not promptly pull him out, on the day of the Sabbath?”
6 Et à cela ils n’avaient rien à répondre.	6 And they were unable to respond to him about these things.
7 Jésus avait vu comment les invités cherchaient les premières places. Il dit à leur adresse:	7 Then he also told a parable, to those who were invited, noticing how they chose the first seats at the table, saying to them:
8 "Lorsque quelqu’un t’invite à des noces, ne te précipite pas à la première place, car il a peut-être invité quelqu’un de plus important que toi.	8 “When you are invited to a wedding, do not sit down in the first place, lest perhaps someone more honored than yourself may have been invited by him.
9 Imagine que celui qui vous a invités tous les deux vienne te dire: ‘Cède-lui la place’. Tu devrais alors te glisser tout honteux à la dernière place.	9 And then he who called both you and him, approaching, may say to you, ‘Give this place to him.’ And then you would begin, with shame, to take the last place.
10 “Si l’on t’invite, va te mettre à la dernière place; lorsque celui qui t’a invité fera son tour, il te dira: ‘Mon ami, avance plus haut!’ Et ce sera un honneur pour toi devant tous les invités.	10 But when you are invited, go, sit down in the lowest place, so that, when he who invited you arrives, he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the sight of those who sit at table together with you.
11 “Car celui qui s’élève sera abaissé, et celui qui s’abaisse sera élevé.”	11 For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.”
12 Jésus dit encore à celui qui l’avait invité: "Lorsque tu prépares un déjeuner ou un dîner, n’invite pas tes amis, ni tes frères, ni tes proches, ni de riches voisins; ils t’inviteraient à leur tour et tu aurais là ta récompense.	12 Then he also said to the one who had invited him: “When you prepare a lunch or dinner, do not choose to call your friends, or your brothers, or your relatives, or your wealthy neighbors, lest perhaps they might then invite you in return and repayment would made to you.
13 “Mais quand tu organises un festin, invite les pauvres, les estropiés, les boiteux et les aveugles.	13 But when you prepare a feast, call the poor, the disabled, the lame, and the blind.
14 Heureux seras-tu s’ils n’ont pas les moyens de te le rendre, car on te le rendra lors de la résurrection des justes.”	14 And you will be blessed because they do not have a way to repay you. So then, your recompense will be in the resurrection of the just.”
15 En entendant parler Jésus, un des convives lui dit: "Heureux celui qui prendra part au banquet dans le Royaume de Dieu!”	15 When someone sitting at table with him had heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is he who will eat bread in the kingdom of God.”
16 Jésus lui répondit: "Un homme avait préparé un grand dîner, avec beaucoup d’invités.	16 So he said to him: “A certain man prepared a great feast, and he invited many.
17 Quand vint l’heure du dîner, il envoya son serviteur pour dire aux invités: ‘Venez, tout est prêt!’	17 And he sent his servant, at the hour of the feast, to tell the invited to come; for now everything was ready.
18 Mais tous, comme un seul homme, commencèrent à s’excuser. Le premier lui fait dire: ‘J’ai acheté un champ, il faut absolument que j’aille le voir. Tu voudras bien m’excuser.’	18 And at once they all began to make excuses. The first said to him: ‘I bought a farm, and I need to go out and see it. I ask you to excuse me.’
19 Un autre dit: ‘J’ai acheté cinq paires de bœufs et je pars les essayer. Tu voudras bien m’excuser.’	19 And another said: ‘I bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to examine them. I ask you to excuse me.’
20 Un autre encore dit: ‘Je viens de me marier, c’est pourquoi je ne viens pas.’	20 And another said, ‘I have taken a wife, and therefore I am not able to go.’
21 “Le serviteur revint et fit le rapport à son maître. Alors le maître de maison se mit en colère et dit à son serviteur: ‘Va tout de suite sur les places, parcours les rues de la ville; tu amèneras ici les pauvres, les estropiés, les aveugles et les boiteux.’	21 And returning, the servant reported these things to his lord. Then the father of the family, becoming angry, said to his servant: ‘Go out quickly into the streets and neighborhoods of the city. And lead here the poor, and the disabled, and the blind, and the lame.’
22 “Le serviteur revint lui dire: ‘Seigneur, on a fait ce que tu as commandé, mais il y a encore de la place.’	22 And the servant said: ‘It has been done, just as you ordered, lord, and there is still room.’
23 Le maître dit au serviteur: ‘Va voir aux sorties de la ville, du côté des baraquements, et oblige les gens à entrer pour que ma maison soit pleine.	23 And the lord said to the servant: ‘Go out to the highways and hedges, and compel them to enter, so that my house may be filled.
24 Mais ces messieurs que j’avais invités, je vous dis que pas un d’eux ne goûtera de mon festin.’ ”	24 For I tell you, that none of those men who were invited will taste of my feast.’ ”
25 Comme une foule nombreuse faisait route avec Jésus, il se tourna vers eux pour leur dire:	25 Now great crowds traveled with him. And turning around, he said to them:
26 "Si quelqu’un vient à moi sans se détacher de son père, de sa mère, de sa femme, ses enfants, ses frères, ses sœurs, et même de sa propre personne, il ne peut pas être mon disciple.	26 “If anyone comes to me, and does not hate his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, and yes, even his own life, he is not able to be my disciple.
27 Celui qui ne marche pas à ma suite en portant sa croix ne peut pas être mon disciple.	27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after me, is not able to be my disciple.
28 “Si l’un d’entre vous pense à se bâtir une tour, ne va-t-il pas d’abord s’asseoir pour calculer la dépense et voir s’il ira jusqu’au bout?	28 For who among you, wanting to build a tower, would not first sit down and determine the costs that are required, to see if he has the means to complete it?
29 Car s’il pose les fondations et n’est pas capable de terminer, tous ceux qui le verront se moqueront de lui:	29 Otherwise, after he will have laid the foundation and not been able to finish it, everyone who sees it may begin to mock him,
30 ‘Il a commencé à bâtir et il n’a pas été capable de terminer!’	30 saying: ‘This man began to build what he was not able to finish.’
31 “Si un roi part en guerre contre un autre roi, ne va-t-il pas d’abord s’asseoir et voir s’il peut avec 10 000 hommes affronter l’autre qui en amène 20 000 contre lui.	31 Or, what king, advancing to engage in war against another king, would not first sit down and consider whether he may be able, with ten thousand, to meet one who comes against him with twenty thousand?
32 Sinon, quand l’autre est encore loin, il envoie une ambassade pour parler de paix.	32 If not, then while the other is still far away, sending a delegation, he would ask him for terms of peace.
33 “C’est pareil pour vous: si on ne renonce pas à tous ses biens, on ne peut être mon disciple.”	33 Therefore, everyone of you who does not renounce all that he possesses is not able to be my disciple.
34 “Le sel est bon; mais si le sel perd son mordant, comment va-t-on le lui redonner?	34 Salt is good. But if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be seasoned?
35 Il n’est plus bon, ni pour la terre, ni pour le fumier, il faut le jeter dehors! Qui a des oreilles pour entendre, qu’il entende!”	35 It is useful neither in soil, nor in manure, so instead, it shall be thrown away. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.”
