1 Encore deux jours, et c’était la Pâque et la fête des Pains sans levain. Les chefs des prêtres et les maîtres de la Loi cherchaient la manière de s’emparer de Jésus dans un coup monté et de le mettre à mort.	1 Now the feast of the pasch, and of the Azymes was after two days; and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might by some wile lay hold on him, and kill him.
2 Mais ils se disaient: "Pas durant la fête, car le peuple pourrait s’agiter.”	2 But they said: Not on the festival day, lest there should be a tumult among the people.
3 Jésus se trouvait à Béthanie dans la maison de Simon le lépreux. Pendant qu’il était à table, une femme s’approcha de lui, portant un vase d’albâtre avec une essence de myrrhe d’un très grand prix. Elle brisa le col du vase et versa le parfum sur la tête de Jésus.	3 And when he was in Bethania, in the house of Simon the leper, and was at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of precious spikenard: and breaking the alabaster box, she poured it out upon his head.
4 Plusieurs d’entre eux en furent indignés; ils se disaient: "Pourquoi avoir gâché ce parfum?	4 Now there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said: Why was this waste of the ointment made?
5 On aurait pu vendre cette myrrhe plus de 300 deniers et les donner aux pauvres.” Et ils lui en faisaient le reproche.	5 For this ointment might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
6 Mais Jésus leur dit: "Laissez-la tranquille, pourquoi lui cherchez-vous des ennuis? Ce qu’elle vient de faire pour moi est une bonne œuvre.	6 But Jesus said: Let her alone, why do you molest her? She hath wrought a good work upon me.
7 Les pauvres, vous en aurez toujours avec vous et vous pourrez leur faire du bien chaque fois que vous le voudrez, mais moi vous ne m’aurez pas toujours.	7 For the poor you have always with you: and whensoever you will, you may do them good: but me you have not always.
8 Elle a fait ce qui lui correspondait: elle a embaumé par avance mon corps pour la sépulture.	8 She hath done what she could: she is come beforehand to anoint my body for burial.
9 En vérité, je vous le dis, partout où cet Évangile sera proclamé, jusqu’au bout du monde, on dira aussi ce qu’elle a fait et on gardera sa mémoire.”	9 Amen, I say to you, wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, that also which she hath done, shall be told for a memorial of her.
10 Alors Judas Iscariote, qui était l’un des Douze, s’en alla trouver les chefs des prêtres pour leur livrer Jésus.	10 And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests, to betray him to them.
11 Ils en furent très heureux et promirent de lui donner de l’argent. Dès lors il chercha le moment favorable pour le livrer.	11 Who hearing it were glad; and they promised him they would give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
12 Le premier jour des Pains sans Levain, où l’on devait immoler l’agneau de la Pâque, les disciples dirent à Jésus: "Où veux-tu que nous allions faire les préparatifs pour manger la Pâque?”	12 Now on the first day of the unleavened bread, when they sacrificed the pasch, the disciples say to him: Whither wilt thou that we go, and prepare for thee to eat the pasch?
13 Alors il envoie deux de ses disciples en leur disant: "Allez à la ville; un homme portant une cruche d’eau vous rejoindra: suivez-le.	13 And he sendeth two of his disciples, and saith to them: Go ye into the city; and there shall meet you a man carrying a pitcher of water, follow him;
14 Et là où il entrera, dites au propriétaire: Le Maître te fait dire: Où est ma salle où je mangerai la Pâque avec mes disciples?	14 And whithersoever he shall go in, say to the master of the house, The master saith, Where is my refectory, where I may eat the pasch with my disciples?
15 Il vous montrera à l’étage une grande pièce garnie de coussins, bien aménagée; vous y préparerez tout ce qu’il nous faut.”	15 And he will shew you a large dining room furnished; and there prepare ye for us.
16 Les disciples partirent, arrivèrent à la ville et trouvèrent tout comme Jésus le leur avait dit; ils firent les préparatifs de la Pâque.	16 And his disciples went their way, and came into the city; and they found as he had told them, and they prepared the pasch.
17 Le soir venu, Jésus arrive avec les Douze.	17 And when evening was come, he cometh with the twelve.
18 Pendant qu’ils sont à table et mangent, Jésus leur dit: "En vérité je vous le dis, l’un de vous va me livrer, un de ceux qui mangent avec moi.”	18 And when they were at table and eating, Jesus saith: Amen I say to you, one of you that eateth with me shall betray me.
19 Profondément peinés, ils se mettent à lui dire l’un après l’autre: "Serait-ce moi?”	19 But they began to be sorrowful, and to say to him one by one: Is it I?
20 Mais il leur dit: "C’est l’un des Douze, celui qui plonge avec moi la main dans le plat.	20 Who saith to them: One of the twelve, who dippeth with me his hand in the dish.
21 Le Fils de l’Homme s’en va comme l’Écriture le dit de lui, mais malheur à cet homme par qui le Fils de l’Homme est livré! Il vaudrait mieux pour lui qu’il ne soit pas né.”	21 And the Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man shall be betrayed. It were better for him, if that man had not been born.
22 Pendant qu’ils mangent, Jésus prend du pain, prononce une bénédiction et le rompt. Puis il le leur donne en disant: "Prenez, ceci est mon corps.”	22 And whilst they were eating, Jesus took bread; and blessing, broke, and gave to them, and said: Take ye. This is my body.
23 Il prend ensuite la coupe, il rend grâces, il la leur donne et ils en boivent tous.	23 And having taken the chalice, giving thanks, he gave it to them. And they all drank of it.
24 Puis il leur dit: "Ceci est mon sang, le sang de l’alliance, qui est versé pour une multitude.	24 And he said to them: This is my blood of the new testament, which shall be shed for many.
25 “En vérité je vous le dis: Je ne boirai plus du produit de la vigne jusqu’au jour où je le boirai nouveau dans le Royaume de Dieu.”	25 Amen I say to you, that I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day when I shall drink it new in the kingdom of God.
26 Après cela ils chantèrent les hymnes et partirent vers le Mont des Oliviers.	26 And when they had said an hymn, they went forth to the mount of Olives.
27 Alors Jésus leur dit: "Vous allez tous chuter, car il est écrit: Je frapperai le pasteur et les brebis seront dispersées.	27 And Jesus saith to them: You will all be scandalized in my regard this night; for it is written, I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep shall be dispersed.
28 Mais quand je me relèverai, j’irai vous attendre en Galilée.”	28 But after I shall be risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
29 Pierre alors déclare: "Même si tous doutent de toi et chutent, moi non!”	29 But Peter saith to him: Although all shall be scandalized in thee, yet not I.
30 Jésus lui répond: "En vérité, je te le dis, cette nuit même, avant que le coq ne chante pour la seconde fois, toi, tu m’auras renié trois fois.”	30 And Jesus saith to him: Amen I say to thee, to day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shall deny me thrice.
31 Mais lui insistait encore: "Même si je devais mourir avec toi, je ne te renierais pas.” Et tous disaient la même chose.	31 But he spoke the more vehemently: Although I should die together with thee, I will not deny thee. And in like manner also said they all.
32 Ils arrivent à une propriété du nom de Gethsémani et Jésus dit à ses disciples: "Asseyez-vous là pendant que j’irai prier.”	32 And they came to a farm called Gethsemani. And he saith to his disciples: Sit you here, while I pray.
33 Il prend avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, et il commence à être envahi par la frayeur et l’angoisse.	33 And he taketh Peter and James and John with him; and he began to fear and to be heavy.
34 Il leur dit: "Mon âme est triste à en mourir, restez ici et veillez.”	34 And he saith to them: My soul is sorrowful even unto death; stay you here, and watch.
35 Puis il s’éloigne un peu et se prosterne face contre terre; il demande que cette heure passe loin de lui si cela se peut.	35 And when he was gone forward a little, he fell flat on the ground; and he prayed, that if it might be, the hour might pass from him.
36 Et il dit: "Abba, Père, tout t’est possible, éloigne cette coupe loin de moi! Et cependant, non pas comme je veux, mais comme tu veux.”	36 And he saith: Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee: remove this chalice from me; but not what I will, but what thou wilt.
37 Après quoi Jésus va vers les disciples et les trouve endormis; il dit à Pierre: "Simon, tu dors? Tu n’as pas été capable de rester une heure éveillé?	37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping. And he saith to Peter: Simon, sleepest thou? couldst thou not watch one hour?
38 Veillez et priez pour ne pas être pris dans la tentation. Car l’esprit est plein d’ardeur, mais la chair est faible.”	38 Watch ye, and pray that you enter not into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
39 De nouveau il s’éloigne pour prier et redit les mêmes paroles.	39 A going away again, he prayed, saying the same words.
40 Puis il revient vers les disciples et les trouve endormis; leurs yeux étaient lourds de sommeil et ils ne savaient que lui répondre.	40 And when he returned, he found them again asleep, (for their eyes were heavy,) and they knew not what to answer him.
41 Une troisième fois il revient et leur dit: "C’est bien le moment de dormir et de vous reposer! Cette fois l’heure est venue où le Fils de l’Homme est livré aux mains des pécheurs.	41 And he cometh the third time, and saith to them: Sleep ye now, and take your rest. It is enough: the hour is come: behold the Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42 Levez-vous, allons! Celui qui me livre est proche”.	42 Rise up, let us go. Behold, he that will betray me is at hand.
43 Alors que Jésus parlait encore, arriva Judas, l’un des Douze, et avec lui tout un groupe armé d’épées et de bâtons, envoyé par les chefs des prêtres, les maîtres de la Loi et les Anciens.	43 And while he was yet speaking, cometh Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve: and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the ancients.
44 Celui qui le trahissait leur avait donné un signe: "Celui que j’embrasserai, c’est lui; arrêtez-le et emmenez-le sous bonne garde.”	44 And he that betrayed him, had given them a sign, saying: Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is he; lay hold on him, and lead him away carefully.
45 Aussitôt arrivé, Judas s’avança vers lui en disant: "Rabbi!” Et il l’embrassa.	45 And when he was come, immediately going up to him, he saith: Hail, Rabbi; and he kissed him.
46 Les autres mirent la main sur Jésus et l’arrêtèrent.	46 But they laid hands on him, and held him.
47 Un de ceux qui étaient là sortit son épée, frappa le serviteur du Grand Prêtre et lui coupa l’oreille.	47 An one of them that stood by, drawing a sword, struck a servant of the chief priest, and cut off his ear.
48 Alors Jésus prit la parole et leur dit: "Pour m’arrêter vous êtes venus avec épées et gourdins, comme si j’étais un brigand!	48 And Jesus answering, said to them: Are you come out as to a robber, with swords and staves to apprehend me?
49 Tous les jours pourtant, j’étais au milieu de vous dans le Temple pour y enseigner et vous ne m’avez pas arrêté. Mais il fallait que s’accomplissent les Écritures.”	49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and you did not lay hands on me. But that the scriptures may be fulfilled.
50 Tous l’abandonnèrent et prirent la fuite.	50 Then his disciples leaving him, all fled away.
51 Un jeune homme le suivait, qui n’avait sur lui qu’un drap, et ils l’arrêtèrent.	51 And a certain young man followed him, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and they laid hold on him.
52 Mais lui s’enfuit tout nu, laissant le drap entre leurs mains.	52 But he, casting off the linen cloth, fled from them naked.
53 Ils conduisirent alors Jésus chez le Grand Prêtre et tous les chefs des prêtres, les Anciens et les maîtres de la Loi se rassemblèrent.	53 And they brought Jesus to the high priest; and all the priests and the scribes and the ancients assembled together.
54 Pierre avait suivi de loin jusqu’à l’intérieur de la cour du Grand Prêtre; il s’assit et resta à se chauffer près du feu avec les hommes de la police du Temple.	54 And Peter followed him from afar off, even into the court of the high priest; and he sat with the servants at the fire, and warmed himself.
55 Les chefs des prêtres et tout le conseil du Sanhédrin cherchaient un témoignage pour condamner Jésus à mort, mais ils n’en trouvaient pas;	55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for evidence against Jesus, that they might put him to death, and found none.
56 plusieurs avaient témoigné faussement contre Jésus, mais leur témoignage ne concordait pas.	56 For many bore false witness against him, and their evidences were not agreeing.
57 Certains lancèrent cette fausse accusation:	57 And some rising up, bore false witness against him, saying:
58 "Nous l’avons entendu affirmer: Je détruirai ce Temple, construit de main d’homme, et en trois jours j’en bâtirai un autre qui ne sera pas fait de main d’homme.”	58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another not made with hands.
59 Mais là encore leurs témoignages ne concordaient pas.	59 And their witness did not agree.
60 Alors le Grand Prêtre se lève au milieu du conseil et il interroge Jésus: "Tu ne réponds rien? Quelle est cette histoire dont ils t’accusent?”	60 And the high priest rising up in the midst, asked Jesus, saying: Answerest thou nothing to the things that are laid to thy charge by these men?
61 Mais Jésus garde le silence et ne répond rien. De nouveau le Grand Prêtre l’interroge et lui dit: "Es-tu le Messie, le Fils du Béni?”	61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said to him: Art thou the Christ the Son of the blessed God?
62 Jésus répond: "Je le suis, et vous verrez le Fils de l’Homme siéger à la droite du Tout-Puissant et venir sur les nuées du ciel.”	62 And Jesus said to him: I am. And you shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of the power of God, and coming with the clouds of heaven.
63 Le Grand Prêtre alors déchire sa tunique et dit: "Qu’avons-nous encore besoin de témoins?	63 Then the high priest rending his garments, saith: What need we any further witnesses?
64 Vous venez d’entendre le blasphème. Quel est votre avis?” Et tous décident qu’il mérite la mort.	64 You have heard the blasphemy. What think you? Who all condemned him to be guilty of death.
65 À ce moment plusieurs se mettent à cracher sur lui, ils lui cachent le visage avec un linge et lui donnent des gifles, puis ils disent: "Fais le prophète!” Et les auxiliaires de police lui donnaient des coups.	65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him: Prophesy: and the servants struck him with the palms of their hands.
66 Pierre était toujours dehors dans la cour. Arrive une des filles au service du Grand Prêtre;	66 Now when Peter was in the court below, there cometh one of the maidservants of the high priest.
67 elle voit Pierre qui se chauffe, elle le dévisage et lui dit: "Toi aussi tu étais avec Jésus le Nazaréen.”	67 And when she had seen Peter warming himself, looking on him she saith: Thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
68 Mais lui le nie et dit: "Je ne sais pas ce que tu veux dire, je ne comprends pas.” Et aussitôt, il se dirige vers le vestibule.	68 But he denied, saying: I neither know nor understand what thou sayest. And he went forth before the court; and the cock crew.
69 La servante qui l’a vu dit de nouveau à ceux qui sont là: "Celui-ci fait partie de la bande.”	69 And again a maidservant seeing him, began to say to the standers by: This is one of them.
70 Pour la deuxième fois Pierre le nie. Un peu plus tard, ceux qui sont présents relancent Pierre: "Allons, tu es sûrement l’un des leurs; d’ailleurs tu es de Galilée.”	70 But he denied again. And after a while they that stood by said again to Peter: Surely thou art one of them; for thou art also a Galilean.
71 Mais il commence à lancer des malédictions et à jurer: "Je ne connais pas cet homme dont vous parlez.”	71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying; I know not this man of whom you speak.
72 Et c’est alors le second chant du coq. Pierre se rappelle les paroles que Jésus lui a dites: "Avant que le coq ne chante deux fois, tu m’auras renié trois fois.” Et il commence à pleurer.	72 And immediately the cock crew again. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus had said unto him: Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt thrice deny me. And he began to weep.
