1 “Évitez de faire vos bonnes actions devant les gens de telle façon qu’ils vous remarquent. Car alors vous n’avez pas de récompense à attendre de votre Père des Cieux.	1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 “Donc, si tu donnes aux pauvres, ne fais pas sonner la trompette devant toi; n’imite pas ceux qui jouent la comédie dans les synagogues et dans les rues, et qui veulent que les gens les admirent. En vérité, je vous le dis, ils ont déjà leur récompense.	2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 Pour toi, par contre, que ta main gauche ignore ce que fait ta main droite quand elle donne aux pauvres;	3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 ainsi ton aumône restera chose secrète, et ton Père qui voit dans le secret te le rendra.	4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
5 “Quand vous priez, n’imitez pas ceux qui jouent la comédie. Ils aiment se planter en prière dans les synagogues, ou à l’angle de la place, pour que les gens les remarquent. En vérité, je vous le dis, ils ont déjà leur récompense.	5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 Toi, au contraire, quand tu veux prier, entre dans ta chambre et ferme la porte afin de prier ton Père qui est là dans le secret; et ton Père qui voit dans le secret te le rendra.	6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 “Quand vous priez, pas de discours interminables comme en font les païens: ils croient qu’à force de parler ils seront entendus.	7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Ne leur ressemblez pas. Pensez-y: avant même que vous ne demandiez, votre Père sait de quoi vous avez besoin.”	8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
9 “Vous donc priez ainsi: Notre Père qui es dans les cieux, que ton Nom soit sanctifié,	9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 que ton règne vienne, que ta volonté se fasse sur la terre comme au ciel.	10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Donne-nous aujourd’hui le pain qu’il nous faut;	11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 pardonne-nous, toi, nos dettes, comme nous l’avons fait pour ceux qui nous doivent,	12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 et ne nous laisse pas tomber dans la tentation, mais délivre-nous du Mauvais.	13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
14 “Sachez-le: si vous pardonnez aux autres leurs offenses, votre Père céleste vous pardonnera aussi.	14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 Mais si vous ne pardonnez pas aux autres, votre Père non plus ne vous pardonnera pas vos offenses.	15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
16 “Et quand vous jeûnez, ne prenez pas un air triste comme ceux qui jouent la comédie; ils se font une figure transparente pour que les gens voient bien qu’ils jeûnent. En vérité, je vous le dis, ils tiennent déjà leur récompense.	16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
17 “Toi, par contre, le jour où tu jeûnes, parfume ta tête et lave-toi le visage.	17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
18 Ainsi ton jeûne ne sera pas remarqué par les autres, mais par ton Père qui est là dans le secret, et ton Père qui est là dans le secret te le rendra.	18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
19 “N’amassez pas richesses et réserves sur cette terre, là où les mites et les vers font des ravages, là où les voleurs percent le mur et emportent tout.	19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 “Amassez-vous richesses et réserves dans le Ciel, là où il n’y a ni mites ni vers pour faire des ravages, et pas de voleurs pour percer le mur et tout emporter.	20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 Oui! Là où est ton trésor, là aussi sera ton cœur.	21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 “L’œil est ta lampe. Si tu as l’œil sain, toute ta personne profite de la lumière.	22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 Mais si ton œil est mauvais, ton être entier est dans le noir. Si la lumière qui était en toi est devenue ténèbres, que deviendront tes propres ténèbres?”	23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 “Personne ne peut servir bien deux maîtres; il détestera l’un et aimera l’autre, ou bien il soignera le premier et se moquera de l’autre. Vous ne pouvez pas servir Dieu et le Dieu-Argent.	24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25 “C’est pourquoi je vous dis: ne vous tourmentez pas pour votre vie avec des questions de nourriture, ni pour votre corps avec des questions de vêtement. La vie n’est-elle pas plus que la nourriture et le corps plus que le vêtement?	25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 “Regardez les oiseaux du ciel: ils ne sèment pas, ils ne moissonnent pas, ils n’ont pas de réserves ni de greniers, mais votre Père du Ciel les nourrit. Et vous alors? Ne valez-vous pas beaucoup plus qu’eux?	26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Qui d’entre vous, à force de s’inquiéter, pourra prolonger sa vie d’une seule coudée?	27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 “Et le vêtement, pourquoi vous en préoccuper? Voyez comment sortent les lys des champs et instruisez-vous. Ils ne peinent pas, ils ne tissent pas,	28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 mais je vous dis que Salomon dans toute sa gloire n’était pas habillé comme l’un d’eux.	29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Si Dieu habille ainsi la plante sauvage qui aujourd’hui se dresse mais demain sera jetée au four, ne fera-t-il pas beaucoup mieux pour vous? Vous avez bien peu la foi!	30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 “Donc laissez là vos inquiétudes: Qu’allons-nous manger? Qu’allons-nous boire? Comment nous habiller?	31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 Laissez les païens courir après toutes ces choses, car votre Père du Ciel sait que tout cela vous est nécessaire.	32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 “Cherchez d’abord son royaume et sa justice, et tout le reste vous sera donné en plus.	33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Cessez de vous inquiéter pour demain et demain s’inquiétera pour lui-même: à chaque jour suffit sa peine.”	34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
