1 Il y a sous le soleil un moment pour tout, et un temps pour chaque entreprise:	1 All things have their time, and all things under heaven continue during their interval.
2 un temps pour naître, et un temps pour mourir; un temps pour planter, un autre pour déraciner la plante;	2 A time to be born, and a time to die. A time to plant, and a time to pull up what was planted.
3 un temps pour tuer, et un temps pour soigner; un temps pour démolir, et un temps pour bâtir;	3 A time to kill, and a time to heal. A time to tear down, and a time to build up.
4 un temps pour pleurer, et un temps pour rire; un temps pour le deuil, et un temps pour la danse;	4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh. A time to mourn, and a time to dance.
5 un temps pour jeter les pierres, un autre pour les ramasser; un temps pour les embrassements, un temps pour s’en abstenir;	5 A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather. A time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces.
6 un temps pour chercher, et un temps pour perdre; un temps pour conserver, un temps pour se débarrasser;	6 A time to gain, and a time to lose. A time to keep, and a time to cast away.
7 un temps pour déchirer, et un temps pour recoudre; un temps pour se taire, et un temps pour parler;	7 A time to rend, and a time to sew. A time to be silent, and a time to speak.
8 un temps pour aimer, et un temps pour haïr; un temps pour la guerre, et un temps pour la paix:	8 A time of love, and a time of hatred. A time of war, and a time of peace.
9 à la fin, quel profit retirera-t-on de ses peines?	9 What more does a man have from his labor?
10 J’ai bien considéré la tâche que Dieu impose aux humains pour les humilier.	10 I have seen the affliction that God has given to the sons of men, in order that they may be occupied by it.
11 Toute œuvre de lui vient bien en son temps, mais il a mis l’éternité dans leur cœur; or l’homme ne trouve pas le sens de l’œuvre divine depuis le début jusqu’à la fin.	11 He has made all things good in their time, and he has handed over the world to their disputes, so that man may not discover the work which God made from the beginning, even until the end.
12 J’ai vu alors que leur vrai bien est la joie - et de faire le bien durant leur vie.	12 And I realize that there is nothing better than to rejoice, and to do well in this life.
13 Si quelqu’un peut manger et boire, s’il trouve le bonheur dans son travail, c’est là un don de Dieu.	13 For this is a gift from God: when each man eats and drinks, and sees the good results of his labor.
14 J’ai vu que tout ce que Dieu fait est là pour toujours; il n’y a rien à ajouter, rien à supprimer. Et Dieu agit de façon qu’on le respecte.	14 I have learned that all the works which God has made continue on, in perpetuity. We are not able to add anything, nor to take anything away, from those things which God has made in order that he may be feared.
15 Ce qui est a déjà existé; ce qui sera a déjà été; Dieu va rechercher dans ce qui était passé.	15 What has been made, the same continues. What is in the future, has already existed. And God restores what has passed away.
16 J’ai vu d’autres choses sous le soleil: à la place du droit on trouve l’injustice; au siège de la justice on trouve le méchant.	16 I saw under the sun: instead of judgment, impiety, and instead of justice, iniquity.
17 Et je me suis dit en moi-même: Dieu jugera le juste et le méchant, car il y a temps pour toute chose, et rien n’échappe à son jugement.	17 And I said in my heart: “God will judge the just and the impious, and then the time for each matter shall be.”
18 Je me suis dit en moi-même, pensant à ce qu’est l’homme: Dieu les met à l’épreuve, il leur montre qu’ils ne sont que des bêtes.	18 I said in my heart, about the sons of men, that God would test them, and reveal them to be like wild animals.
19 Car les fils d’Adam et la bête ont le même sort; la mort est pour l’un comme pour l’autre. Le souffle est le même et l’homme n’a rien de plus que la bête. Voilà encore une chose qui n’a pas de sens,	19 For this reason, the passing away of man and of beasts is one, and the condition of both is equal. For as a man dies, so also do they die. All things breathe similarly, and man has nothing more than beast; for all these are subject to vanity.
20 que tout aille au même endroit. Tout est venu de la poussière, tout est retourné en poussière.	20 And all things continue on to one place; for from the earth they were made, and unto the earth they shall return together.
21 Qui dira si pour l’homme le souffle part vers les hauteurs, et si pour la bête il retombe à la terre?	21 Who knows if the spirit of the sons of Adam ascend upward, and if the spirit of the beasts descend downward?
22 Et j’ai vu que l’homme n’a rien de plus à espérer que de jouir du fruit de ses travaux; telle est sa part. Mais ce qu’il y aura après, qui le lui fera voir?	22 And I have discovered nothing to be better than for a man to rejoice in his work: for this is his portion. And who shall add to him, so that he may know the things that will occur after him?
