1 À la fin du repas de noces, Tobit appela son fils Tobie et lui dit: “Mon fils, il faut régler ce que tu dois à ton compagnon. Tu rajouteras au prix convenu.”	1 When the wedding celebaration came to an end, Tobit called his son Tobiah and said to him, "Son, see to it that you give what is due to the man who made the journey with you; give him a bonus too."
2 Tobie demanda: “Père, comment pourrais-je le payer pour ses services? Même en lui donnant la moitié des biens qu’il a rapportés avec moi, cela ne suffirait pas.	2 Tobiah said: "Father, how much shall I pay him? It would not hurt me at all to give him half of all the wealth he brought back with me.
3 Il me ramène sain et sauf, il a guéri ma femme, il rapporte avec moi l’argent, enfin il te guérit. Comment parler d’un salaire après tout cela?”	3 He led me back safe and sound; he cured my wife; he brought the money back with me; and he cured you. How much of a bonus should I give him?"
4 Tobit répondit: “Ce serait juste qu’il garde la moitié de ce qu’il a rapporté.”	4 Tobit answered, "It is only fair, son, that he should receive half of all that he brought back."
5 Tobie appela donc son compagnon et lui dit: “Garde la moitié de ce que tu as rapporté, ce sera le prix de tes services; et puis tu t’en iras en paix.”	5 So Tobiah called Raphael and said, "Take as your wages half of all that you have brought back, and go in peace."
6 Alors Raphaël les prit tous les deux à part et il leur dit: “Bénissez Dieu! Célébrez-le au milieu de tous les vivants pour ses bienfaits à votre égard! Bénissez et chantez son Nom! Faites connaître à tous les œuvres de Dieu, comme elles le méritent, et ne cessez pas de le remercier!	6 Raphael called the two men aside privately and said to them: "Thank God! Give him the praise and the glory. Before all the living, acknowledge the many good things he has done for you, by blessing and extolling his name in song. Before all men, honor and proclaim God's deeds, and do not be slack in praising him.
7 Il est bon de garder le secret du roi, mais il est très recommandé de révéler et de publier les merveilles de Dieu. Remerciez-le comme il convient. “Faites ce qui est bien et vous ne connaîtrez pas le malheur.	7 A king's secret it is prudent to keep, but the works of God are to be declared and made known. Praise them with due honor. Do good, and evil will not find its way to you.
8 Mieux vaut la prière et le jeûne, l’aumône et la justice, que la richesse avec l’injustice; mieux vaut avoir peu et être juste, qu’avoir beaucoup en étant pécheur.	8 Prayer and fasting are good, but better than either is almsgiving accompanied by righteousness. A little with righteousness is better than abundance with wickedness. It is better to give alms than to store up gold;
9 L’aumône libère de la mort, elle purifie de tout péché; ceux qui font l’aumône connaîtront une longue vie,	9 for almsgiving saves one from death and expiates every sin. Those who regularly give alms shall enjoy a full life;
10 ceux qui commettent le péché et le mal, attentent à leur vie.	10 but those habitually guilty of sin are their own worst enemies.
11 “Je vais vous dire toute la vérité et je ne vous cacherai rien. Je vous ai déjà dit qu’il est bon de garder le secret du roi et qu’il est très recommandé de révéler les merveilles de Dieu.	11 "I will now tell you the whole truth; I will conceal nothing at all from you. I have already said to you, 'A king's secret it is prudent to keep, but the works of God are to be made known with due honor.'
12 Sachez-le donc: lorsque vous étiez en prière, toi et Sarra, c’était moi qui présentait votre prière devant la Gloire du Seigneur. Et lorsque toi tu enterrais les morts, j’étais de même avec toi.	12 I can now tell you that when you, Tobit, and Sarah prayed, it was I who presented and read the record of your prayer before the Glory of the Lord; and I did the same thing when you used to bury the dead.
13 Plus tard, tu n’as pas hésité à te lever, à quitter la table pour aller enterrer un mort, et c’est alors que j’ai été envoyé pour éprouver ta foi.	13 When you did not hesitate to get up and leave your dinner in order to go and bury the dead,
14 Et de nouveau Dieu m’a envoyé pour te guérir et pour guérir en même temps ta belle-fille Sarra.	14 I was sent to put you to the test. At the same time, however, God commissioned me to heal you and your daughter-in-law Sarah.
15 Je suis Raphaël, l’un des sept anges serviteurs du Seigneur qui ont en tout temps accès à sa Gloire.”	15 I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who enter and serve before the Glory of the Lord."
16 Alors, tout remplis de crainte ils se prosternèrent.	16 Stricken with fear, the two men fell to the ground.
17 Mais il leur dit: “N’ayez pas peur. Que la paix soit avec vous, bénissez Dieu à jamais!	17 But Raphael said to them: "No need to fear; you are safe. Thank God now and forever.
18 Je ne vous ai fait aucune faveur, c’est par la volonté de Dieu que je vous ai accompagnés. C’est donc lui qu’il faut bénir tout au long des jours, c’est lui qu’il faut chanter.	18 As for me, when I came to you it was not out of any favor on my part, but because it was God's will. So continue to thank him every day; praise him with song.
19 Vous avez cru me voir manger, mais ce n’était qu’une apparence.	19 Even though you watched me eat and drink. I did not really do so; what you were seeing was a vision.
20 Bénissez donc le Seigneur, vous qui restez sur terre, et rendez grâce à Dieu pendant que je remonte vers celui qui m’a envoyé. Vous mettrez par écrit tout ce qui est arrivé.” Alors Raphaël s’éleva.	20 So now get up from the ground and praise God. Behold, I am about to ascend to him who sent me; write down all these things that have happened to you."
21 Quand ils se relevèrent, ils ne le virent plus. Ils louèrent Dieu par des chants, le remerciant d’avoir fait de telles merveilles: oui, un ange de Dieu leur était apparu!	21 When Raphael ascended they rose to their feet and could no longer see him.
	22 They kept thanking God and singing his praises; and they continued to acknowledge these marvelous deeds which he had done when the angel of God appeared to them.
