1 Lorsque David était déjà dans sa maison, il dit au prophète Nathan: “Voilà, je vis dans une maison de cèdre mais l’Arche de l’Alliance de Yahvé demeure sous une tente de toile.”	1 Now when David was living in his house, he said to the prophet Nathan: “Behold, I live in a house of cedar. But the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under tent skins.”
2 Nathan dit à David: “Tout ce que tu as dans le cœur, fais-le, car Dieu est avec toi.”	2 And Nathan said to David: “Do all that is in your heart. For God is with you.”
3 Mais cette nuit même, Yahvé dit à Nathan:	3 And yet, that night the word of God came to Nathan, saying:
4 “Va dire à mon serviteur David cette parole de Yahvé: Ce n’est pas toi qui me construiras une Maison pour que j’y habite!	4 “Go, and speak to my servant David: Thus says the Lord: You shall not build a house for me as a dwelling place.
5 Je n’ai jamais habité un temple de tout le temps que j’ai conduit Israël jusqu’à aujourd’hui; mais je suis allé de tente en tente, d’un abri à l’autre.	5 For I have not stayed in a house from the time when I led out Israel, even to this day. Instead, I have been continually changing places, in a tabernacle and tent,
6 Durant tout mon voyage avec les Israélites, ai-je dit à un seul des juges d’Israël que j’avais désignés comme bergers de mon peuple: Pourquoi ne me construis-tu pas un temple en bois de cèdre?	6 dwelling with all of Israel. When did I ever speak to any one at all, among the judges of Israel whom I placed in charge so that they might pasture my people, saying: ‘Why have you not built a house of cedar for me?’
7 “Tu vas transmettre à mon serviteur David cette parole de Yahvé Sabaot: Je t’ai pris derrière le troupeau pour être à la tête d’Israël, mon peuple.	7 And so, now you shall say this to my servant David: Thus says the Lord of hosts: I took you when you were following the flock in the pastures, so that you would be the leader of my people Israel.
8 Je suis allé avec toi partout où tu es allé, et j’ai vaincu tous tes ennemis devant toi. Je rendrai ton nom aussi célèbre que le nom des plus grands sur terre.	8 And I have been with you wherever you have gone. And I have slain all your enemies before you, and I have made a name for you like one of the great ones who are celebrated upon the earth.
9 Je donnerai un lieu à mon peuple Israël; là je les fixerai, et là ils vivront. Ils ne seront plus jamais perturbés, plus jamais les méchants ne les opprimeront.	9 And I have given a place to my people Israel. They shall be planted, and they shall live in it, and they shall no longer be moved. Neither shall the sons of iniquity wear them away, as in the beginning,
10 Le temps est fini où j’établissais des juges sur mon peuple Israël; j’ai soumis tous tes ennemis et je t’ai annoncé que je te bâtirais une maison.	10 from the days when I gave judges to my people Israel, and I humbled all your enemies. Therefore, I announce to you that the Lord will build a house for you.
11 “Et quand tes jours seront finis, que tu devras mourir et être enterré avec tes ancêtres, je te donnerai un successeur sorti de toi, un de tes fils, et je grandirai son royaume.	11 And when you will have completed your days, so that you go to your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall be from your sons. And I will establish his kingdom.
12 Il me construira un temple et j’affermirai son trône pour toujours.	12 He shall build a house for me, and I will make firm his throne, even unto eternity.
13 Je serai un père pour lui et lui sera pour moi un fils. Je ne lui retirerai pas ma faveur comme j’ai fait pour celui qui régnait avant toi.	13 I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. And I will not take away my mercy from him, as I took it away from the one who was before you.
14 Je lui donnerai la charge de ma maison et de mon royaume pour toujours, sa royauté sera ferme à jamais.”	14 And I will station him in my house and in my kingdom, even forever. And his throne will be very firm, in perpetuity.”
15 Nathan raconta à David ces paroles et cette vision.	15 According to all these words, and according to this entire vision, so did Nathan speak to David.
16 Alors le roi David entra, s’assit devant Yahvé et dit: “Je ne suis pas digne de tout ce que tu as déjà fait pour moi, Yahvé Dieu, et ma famille non plus.	16 And when king David had departed, and had sat down before the Lord, he said: “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you would grant such things to me?
17 Pourtant, ô Dieu, ce n’était pas encore assez à tes yeux. Tu me fais maintenant une promesse pour ma descendance qui va loin dans l’avenir. Tu m’as considéré comme un grand homme, ô Yahvé Dieu!	17 But even this has seemed little in your sight, and therefore you have also spoken about the house of your servant even for the future. And you have made me a spectacle above all men, O Lord God.
18 Que puis-je te dire de plus? Tu connais ton serviteur David.	18 What more can David add, since you have so glorified your servant, and have known him?
19 Tout ce que tu as fait, Yahvé, tu l’as fait par bonté pour ton serviteur et pour manifester ta grandeur.	19 O Lord, because of your servant, in accord with your own heart, you have brought about all this magnificence, and you have willed all these great things to be known.
20 “Ô Yahvé! Nul n’est comme toi! Il n’y a pas de Dieu, excepté toi seul, dont nous ayons entendu les paroles.	20 O Lord, there is no one like you. And there is no other God apart from you, out of all whom we have heard about with our ears.
21 Y a-t-il un autre peuple sur terre comme ton peuple Israël? Y a-t-il une seule nation sur la terre que Dieu ait achetée pour en faire son peuple? Tu as rendu célèbre ton peuple. Tu as fait pour lui des choses grandes et terribles: tu as chassé les nations devant lui lorsque tu l’as racheté d’Égypte.	21 For what other single nation upon earth is like your people Israel, to whom God reached out, so that he might free them, and might make a people for himself, and by his greatness and terribleness cast out the nations before the face of those whom he had freed from Egypt?
22 “Tu as fait du peuple d’Israël ton propre peuple à jamais, et toi, Yahvé, tu es devenu son Dieu.	22 And you have set your people Israel to be your people, even unto eternity. And you, O Lord, have become their God.
23 Maintenant, Yahvé, fais que dure la promesse que tu m’as faite au sujet de ma descendance, et agis comme tu l’as dit.	23 Now therefore, O Lord, let the word that you have spoken to your servant, and over his house, be confirmed in perpetuity, and do just as you have spoken.
24 Que cette promesse tienne bon et que ton Nom soit exalté à jamais; que l’on puisse dire: “Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d’Israël, est un Dieu pour Israël”. Fais que ma descendance se tienne fermement devant toi pour toujours.	24 And may your name remain and be magnified even for all time. And let it be said: ‘The Lord of hosts is the God of Israel. And the house of his servant David remains forever before him.’
25 “ Ô mon Dieu! Tu as fait savoir à ton serviteur que tu lui construiras une maison; c’est pourquoi ton serviteur a l’audace de te faire cette demande.	25 For you, O Lord my God, have revealed to the ear of your servant that you will build a house for him. And therefore your servant has found faith so that he might pray before you.
26 Oui, Yahvé, c’est toi qui promets ce bonheur à ton serviteur, toi qui es vraiment Dieu!	26 Now then, O Lord, you are God. And you have spoken to your servant such great benefits.
27 Qu’il te plaise alors de bénir la maison de ton serviteur, pour qu’elle reste à jamais devant toi. C’est toi, Yahvé, qui as béni, elle est bénie à jamais!”	27 And you have begun to bless the house of your servant, so that it may be always before you. For since it is you who is blessing, O Lord, it shall be blessed forever.”
