1 La construction de la Maison de Yahvé, du palais royal et de tout ce que Salomon avait voulu bâtir, était terminée.	1 And it came to pass when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the Lord, and the king's house, and all that he desired, and was pleased to do,
2 Alors Yahvé apparut à Salomon une seconde fois, comme il lui était apparu à Gabaon.	2 That the Lord appeared to him the second time, as he had appeared to him in Gabaon.
3 Yahvé lui dit: “J’ai exaucé la prière et la supplication que tu as fait monter vers moi, j’ai consacré cette Maison que tu as construite pour y faire habiter mon Nom à jamais; mes yeux et mon cœur y seront toujours présents.	3 And the Lord said to him: I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, which thou hast made before me: I have sanctified this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever, and my eyes and my heart shall be there always.
4 Si tu marches devant moi comme a marché ton père David, dans la sincérité du cœur, dans la droiture, si tu mets en pratique ce que je t’ai commandé, si tu observes mes lois et mes ordonnances,	4 And if thou wilt walk before me, as thy father walked, in simplicity of heart, and in uprightness: and wilt do all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my ordinances and my judgments,
5 j’affermirai pour toujours le trône de ta royauté en Israël comme je l’ai promis à David ton père: tu auras toujours un de tes descendants sur le trône d’Israël.	5 I will establish the throne of thy kingdom over Israel for ever, as I promised David thy father, saying: There shall not fail a man of thy race upon the throne of Israel.
6 “Mais si vous vous détournez de moi, vous et vos fils, si vous n’obéissez pas à mes commandements et à mes lois que j’ai placés devant vous, si vous allez servir d’autres dieux, si vous vous prosternez devant eux,	6 But if you and your children revolting shall turn away from following me, and will not keep my commandments, and my ceremonies, which I have set before you, but will go and worship strange gods, and adore them:
7 alors je supprimerai Israël du pays que je lui ai donné. Je rejetterai de devant moi la Maison que j’ai consacrée à mon Nom; Israël sera un objet de mépris et de moquerie parmi tous les peuples,	7 I will take away Israel from the face of the land which I have given them; and the temple which I have sanctified to my name, I will cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb, and a byword among all people.
8 tout homme qui passera devant mon Temple en ruines sera dans l’étonnement et sifflera. “On dira: Pourquoi Yahvé a-t-il traité de la sorte ce pays et cette Maison?	8 And this house shall be made an example of: every one that shall pass by it, shall be astonished, and shall hiss, and say: Why hath the Lord done thus to this land, and to this house:
9 Et voici ce que l’on répondra: Ils ont abandonné Yahvé, leur Dieu, qui avait fait sortir leurs pères du pays d’Égypte, ils se sont attachés à d’autres dieux, ils se sont prosternés devant eux et les ont servis; c’est pourquoi Yahvé a fait venir sur eux toutes ces catastrophes.”	9 And they shall answer: Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and followed strange gods, and adored them, and worshipped them: therefore hath the Lord brought upon them all this evil.
10 Tout le temps que Salomon construisait les deux maisons, la Maison de Yahvé et le palais royal,	10 And when twenty years were ended after Solomon had built the two houses, that is, the house of the Lord, and the house of the king,
11 Hiram, roi de Tyr, avait fourni à Salomon des bois de cèdre et de cyprès, et de l’or, autant qu’il en voulait; au terme de ces 20 années, le roi Salomon donna à Hiram 20 villes en Galilée.	11 11(Hiram the king of Tyre furnishing Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and gold according to all he had need of.) then Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.
12 Hiram quitta Tyr pour voir les villes que Salomon lui donnait; très déçu, il dit à Salomon:	12 And Hiram came out of Tyre, to see the towns which Solomon had given him, and they pleased him not,
13 “Quelles sont ces villes que tu m’as données là, mon frère?” Et il les appela “Pays de Kaboul”; c’est le nom qu’elles ont gardé jusqu’à ce jour.	13 And he said: Are these the cities which thou hast given me, brother? And he called them the land of Chabul, unto this day.
14 Hiram avait envoyé en effet à Salomon 120 talents d’or.	14 And Hiram sent to king Solomon a hundred and twenty talents of gold.
15 Voici ce qui concerne la corvée, ces hommes que Salomon réquisitionna pour construire la Maison de Yahvé, son propre palais, le Millo, le mur de Jérusalem, Haçor, Méguiddo et Guézer	15 This is the sum of the expenses, which king Solomon offered to build the house of the Lord, and his own house, and Mello, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Heser, and Mageddo, and Gazer.
16 - (le pharaon, roi d’Égypte, était monté et s’était emparé de Guézer; il brûla la ville et tua tous les Cananéens qui l’habitaient, puis il donna la ville en dot à sa fille, femme de Salomon.	16 Pharao the king of Egypt came up and took Gazer, and burnt it with fire: and slew the Chanaanite that dwelt in the city, and gave it for a dowry to his daughter, Solomon's wife.
17 Salomon rebâtit donc Guézer), Beth-Horon-le-Bas,	17 So Solomon built: Gazer, and Beth-horon the nether,
18 Baalat, Tamar dans le désert,	18 And Baalath, and Palmira in the land of the wilderness.
19 toutes les villes-entrepôts qu’avait Salomon, les villes pour les chars et les chevaux et tout ce que Salomon avait voulu construire à Jérusalem, au Liban, et dans tous les pays qui lui étaient soumis.	19 And all the towns that belonged to himself, and were not walled, he fortified, the cities also of the chariots, and the cities of the horsemen, and whatsoever he had a mind to build in Jerusalem, and in Libanus, and in all the land of his dominion.
20 On réquisitionna tout ce qui restait des Amorites, des Hittites, des Périsites, des Hivvites, et des Jébusites, en un mot tous ceux qui n’étaient pas Israélites.	20 All the people that were left of the Amorrhites, and Hethites, and Pherezites, and Hevites, and Jebusites, that are not of the children of Israel:
21 Tous leurs fils qui étaient restés dans le pays, car ils n’avaient pas été exterminés par les Israélites en raison de l’anathème, Salomon les prit comme hommes de corvées et ils le sont encore aujourd’hui.	21 Their children, that were left in the land, to wit, such as the children of Israel had not been able to destroy, Solomon made tributary unto this day.
22 Mais il n’imposa pas la corvée aux Israélites; ceux-ci servaient comme soldats, ils faisaient partie de la garde, ils étaient officiers, écuyers, commandants ou voltigeurs des chars.	22 But of the children of Israel Solomon made not any to be bondmen, but they were men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and captains, and overseers of the chariots and horses.
23 Des contremaîtres nommés par les préfets étaient préposés aux travaux du roi: ils étaient 550 qui commandaient les travailleurs sur les chantiers.	23 And there were five hundred and fifty chief officers set over all the works of Solomon, and they had people under them, and had charge over the appointed works.
24 Dès que la fille du Pharaon fut montée de la cité de David à la maison que Salomon lui avait construite, il bâtit le Millo.	24 And the daughter of Pharao came up out of the city of David to her house, which Solomon had built for her: then did he build Mello.
25 Salomon offrait trois fois par an des holocaustes et des sacrifices de communion sur l’autel qu’il avait fait bâtir à Yahvé. Là il faisait fumer ses offrandes par le feu devant Yahvé, et il veillait au bon état de la Maison.	25 Solomon also offered three times every year holocausts, and victims of peace offerings upon the altar which he had built to the Lord, and he burnt incense before the Lord: and the temple was finished.
26 Le roi Salomon construisit une flotte à Ézyon-Guéber, à côté d’Élat sur le bord de la Mer Rouge, au pays d’Édom.	26 And king Solomon made a fleet in Asiongaber, which is by Ailath on the shore of the Red Sea in the land of Edom.
27 Hiram envoya ses serviteurs, des matelots qui connaissaient bien la mer, pour aider les serviteurs de Salomon sur ses vaisseaux.	27 And Hiram sent his servants in the fleet, sailors that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.
28 Ils allèrent ainsi à Ofir où ils se procurèrent de l’or, 420 talents d’or qu’ils remirent au roi Salomon.	28 And they came to Ophir, and they brought from thence to king Solomon four hundred and twenty talents of gold.
