1 Les deux anges arrivèrent le soir à Sodome. Lot était assis à la porte de Sodome. Lorsqu’il les vit, il se leva pour aller à leur rencontre et se prosterna la face contre terre.	1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
2 Il dit: “Je vous en prie, Mes seigneurs, venez à la maison de votre serviteur pour y passer la nuit. Vous pourrez vous laver les pieds, puis demain matin vous vous lèverez et vous continuerez votre chemin.” Ils dirent: “Non, nous passerons la nuit sur la place.”	2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
3 Mais il insista tellement qu’ils vinrent chez lui et entrèrent dans sa maison. Il leur prépara un repas, il fit cuire des pains sans levain et ils mangèrent.	3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
4 Ils n’étaient pas encore couchés quand les hommes de la ville, les hommes de Sodome, entourèrent la maison depuis le plus jeune jusqu’au plus vieux. Toute la population était là.	4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
5 Ils appelèrent Lot et lui dirent: “Où sont ces hommes qui sont venus chez toi pour cette nuit? Fais-les sortir et donne-les nous pour que nous abusions d’eux.”	5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
6 Lot sortit vers eux à l’entrée de sa maison et referma la porte derrière lui.	6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
7 Il leur dit: “Je vous en prie, mes frères, ne commettez pas cette mauvaise action.	7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
8 Voyez, j’ai deux filles, elles sont vierges. Je veux bien vous les faire sortir et vous les traiterez comme bon vous semblera. Mais ne faites rien à ces hommes puisqu’ils sont venus s’abriter chez moi.”	8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
9 Ils lui dirent: “Va-t’en!” et ils ajoutèrent: “En voilà un qui est venu résider chez nous, et il voudrait faire la loi! Nous allons te faire encore plus de mal qu’à eux.” Ils pressaient Lot fortement et s’avançaient pour briser sa porte,	9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.
10 mais les deux hommes qui étaient dans la maison étendirent la main et firent rentrer Lot dans la maison, puis ils refermèrent la porte.	10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.
11 Et ils brouillèrent la vue de tous ces gens qui se pressaient devant la maison, du plus petit jusqu’au plus grand, si bien qu’ils ne trouvaient plus l’entrée.	11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
12 Alors ces hommes dirent à Lot: “Qui as-tu encore ici? Un gendre? Fais donc sortir d’ici tes fils et tes filles ainsi que tout ce qui est à toi dans la ville,	12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:
13 car nous allons détruire cet endroit. Les plaintes qui montent d’ici auprès de Yahvé sont énormes, et Yahvé nous a envoyés pour la détruire.”	13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.
14 Lot alla parler à ses gendres, à ceux qui allaient épouser ses filles. Il leur dit: “Levez-vous! Sortez d’ici, car Yahvé va détruire la ville.” Mais ses gendres prirent cela pour une plaisanterie.	14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.
15 Quand l’aurore se leva, les anges pressèrent Lot et lui dirent: “Lève-toi, prends ta femme et tes deux filles qui sont ici, sinon tu vas périr dans le châtiment de la ville.”	15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
16 Comme il hésitait encore, les hommes le prirent par la main; ils prirent aussi par la main sa femme et ses deux filles, parce que Yahvé avait pitié de lui. Ils le firent sortir et le conduisirent hors de la ville.	16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
17 Quand ils furent aux portes de la ville, ils lui dirent: “Sauve-toi, si tu tiens à la vie. Ne regarde pas derrière toi. Ne t’arrête nulle part dans cette plaine. Sauve-toi vers la montagne, sinon c’est la mort!”	17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.
18 Lot répondit: “Non, mon Seigneur, je t’en prie!	18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:
19 Tu te préoccupes beaucoup pour ton serviteur et tu as eu la bonté de me sauver la vie, mais vois que je ne peux me sauver vers la montagne, le malheur m’atteindra avant et je mourrai.	19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
20 Je voudrais me réfugier dans cette ville toute proche. Tu vois qu’elle est sans importance; permets que j’y trouve le salut et la vie, puisqu’elle est sans importance.”	20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.
21 L’autre lui répondit: “Une fois encore, je t’accorde ce que tu me demandes: je ne détruirai pas la ville dont tu parles.	21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.
22 Dépêche-toi, sauve-toi là-bas, je ne peux rien faire tant que tu n’y es pas arrivé.” C’est pour cela qu’on a donné à la ville le nom de Soar (c’est-à-dire: sans importance).	22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
23 Le soleil allait se lever sur la terre lorsque Lot arriva à Soar.	23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.
24 Alors Yahvé fit pleuvoir sur Sodome et sur Gomorrhe du soufre et du feu qui venaient du haut des cieux, de chez Yahvé.	24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
25 Il anéantit ces villes et toute la région, ainsi que tous les habitants de ces villes et ce qui poussait sur le sol.	25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
26 Comme la femme de Lot regardait derrière elle, elle devint une statue de sel.	26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
27 Abraham se rendit de bon matin au lieu où il s’était tenu devant Yahvé.	27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:
28 Il regarda du côté de Sodome et de Gomorrhe, du côté de la plaine, et il vit que de la terre montait une fumée semblable à la fumée d’une fournaise.	28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.
29 Ainsi, quand Dieu détruisit les villes de la région, Dieu se souvint d’Abraham: il épargna Lot alors que la catastrophe anéantissait les villes dans lesquelles Lot avait habité.	29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.
30 De Soar, Lot vint s’établir dans la montagne avec ses deux filles, car il ne se sentait pas en sûreté a Soar. Il s’installa dans une grotte avec ses deux filles.	30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
31 L’aînée dit à la plus jeune: “Notre père est âgé et il n’y a pas d’autre homme dans le pays pour s’unir à nous comme cela se fait partout.	31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
32 Faisons donc boire du vin à notre père et couchons avec lui. Ainsi nous donnerons une descendance à notre père.”	32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
33 Elles enivrèrent leur père et, cette nuit-là, l’aînée s’en alla coucher avec son père. Lui ne se rendit compte de rien, ni quand elle se coucha, ni quand elle se leva.	33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
34 Le lendemain l’aînée dit à la plus jeune: “Hier j’ai couché avec mon père, enivrons-le cette nuit encore et tu coucheras avec lui. Ainsi nous donnerons une descendance à notre père.”	34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our Father.
35 Cette nuit-là encore elles enivrèrent leur père, et la plus jeune vint coucher avec lui. Il ne se rendit compte de rien, ni quand elle se coucha, ni quand elle se leva.	35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
36 C’est ainsi que les deux filles de Lot furent enceintes de leur père.	36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
37 L’aînée enfanta un fils qu’elle appela Moab: c’est le père des Moabites qui existent encore aujourd’hui.	37 And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.
38 La plus jeune aussi enfanta un fils et elle lui donna le nom de Ben-Ammi: c’est le père des Ammonites qui existent encore aujourd’hui.	38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.
