1 E i Filistei combatteano contro ad Israel; e quelli d' Israel fuggirono dinanzi al cospetto de' Filistei; e cadeano morti nel monte di Gelboe.	1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
2 E i Filistei fecero impeto in Saul e nei suoi figliuoli; e uccisero Ionata, Abinadab e Melchisua, suoi figliuoli.	2 And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul's sons.
3 E tutto il pondo della battaglia fu convertito in Saul; e seguitaronlo uomini saettatori, e fue gravemente ferito da loro.	3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.
4 E Saul disse al suo scudiere: tra' fuori il tuo coltello e uccidimi, acciò che non vegnano questi incirconcisi, e uccidanmi e facciano strazio di me. E nol volse uccidere il suo scudiere, però ch' egli era troppo isbigottito di paura; onde che Saul tolse il suo coltello, e lasciovvisi cadere suso (e morì con esso lui).	4 Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
5 E avendo veduto questo, il suo scudiere, che Saul era morto, lasciossi cadere sopra il suo coltello, e morì con lui.	5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
6 Ond' è morto Saul, e tre suoi figliuoli, e il suo scudiere, e tutti gli uomini suoi in quel dì.	6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.
7 E veggendo i figliuoli d' Israel, i quali erano dall'altra parte della valle e oltre il fiume Giordano, ch' erano fuggiti gli uomini d' Israel, e che era morto Saul e i suoi figliuoli, lasciarono le loro cittadi, e fuggirono; e vennero i Filistei, e abitarono ivi.	7 And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8 E fatto l'altro dì, vennero i Filistei per spogliare i morti, e trovarono Saul e' tre suoi figliuoli giacere nel monte Gelboe.	8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
9 E tagliarono il capo a Saul, e ispogliaronlo delle (sue vestimenta e delle) sue armi, e mandaronle per la terra de' Filistei dintorno, che s' annunziasse nel tempio degl' idoli e ai popoli.	9 And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.
10 E puosero l'armi sue nel tempio di Astarot, e il suo corpo impiccarono nel muro di Betsan.	10 And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.
11 E udito gli abitatori di Iabes e di Galaad tutto quello che i Filistei aveano fatto a Saul,	11 And when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul;
12 levaronsi tutti gli uomini fortissimi, andarono tutta notte e tolsero il corpo di Saul e li corpi dei figliuoli del muro di Betsan, e vènnersene a Iabes, e ivi li arsono.	12 All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.
13 E tolseno l'ossa loro, e seppellîrle nel bosco di Iabes, e digiunarono VII dì.	13 And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
