BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Per la qual cosa noi, lasciando il sermone del cominciamento di Cristo, siamo venuti pur al compimento, non gittando ancora il fondamento della penitenza dalle opere morte, il fondamento della fede a Dio,	1 Let us leave behind us then al the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to its completion,without going over the fundamental doctrines again: the turning away from dead actions, faith in God,
2 e del battesimo e della dottrina e della imposizione delle mani, e della resurrezione de' morti, e del giudizio eternale.	2 the teaching about baptisms and the laying -- on of hands, about the resurrection of the dead andeternal judgement.
3 E questo faremo veramente, se Dio il ci permetterà.	3 This, God willing, is what we propose to do.
4 Impossibile cosa è di rinnovare a penitenza coloro li quali già per una volta son alluminati, ed eziandio hanno già assaggiato del celestiale dono, e furono fatti partefici del Spirito Santo,	4 As for those people who were once brought into the light, and tasted the gift from heaven, and receiveda share of the Holy Spirit,
5 e assaggiarono simigliantemente la buona parola di Dio, e le virtù del secolo che dee venire,	5 and tasted the goodness of God's message and the powers of the world to come
6 e nondimeno (conoscendo queste cose) fossino caduti, li quali crocifissono ancora lo Figliuolo di Dio, (facendo li gravi peccati e) facendo derisione di Dio.	6 and yet in spite of this have fal en away -- it is impossible for them to be brought to the freshness ofrepentance a second time, since they are crucifying the Son of God again for themselves, and making a publicexhibition of him.
7 Veramente la terra che spesse volte riceve sopra sè l'acqua della piova, ed ella germina e fa frutto chente il dee fare a quel che lavora, quella terra riceve benedizione da Dio.	7 A field that drinks up the rain that has fal en frequently on it, and yields the crops that are wanted by theowners who grew them, receives God's blessing;
8 Ma quella che mette fuora pur tribuli e spine, sì è biasimata (e rifiutata) e prossima alla maledizione; il compimento della quale è ardere a fuoco.	8 but one that grows brambles and thistles is worthless, and near to being cursed. It will end by beingburnt.
9 Ma noi confidiamo di voi, dilettissimi, che voi farete migliori cose, e più vicine alla salute; avvegnachè così parliamo.	9 But you, my dear friends -- in spite of what we have just said, we are sure you are in a better state andon the way to salvation.
10 Chè Dio non è ingiusto, che dimentichi la vostra operazione e la dilezione la qual voi dimostraste in nome suo, voi che serviste alli santi, e servite ancora.	10 God would not be so unjust as to forget al you have done, the love that you have for his name or theservices you have done, and are stil doing, for the holy people of God.
11 Desideriamo che ciascuno di voi dimostri quella medesima sollecitudine a compimento della speranza insino alla fine;	11 Our desire is that every one of you should go on showing the same enthusiasm til the ultimatefulfilment of your hope,
12 che non diventiate pigri, ma seguitatori di coloro li quali erediteranno per fede e per pazienza la promessione.	12 never growing careless, but taking as your model those who by their faith and perseverance are heirsof the promises.
13 Veramente Dio promesse ad Abraam, per sè medesimo giurando; chè non era maggiore di sè, per cui giurasse.	13 When God made the promise to Abraham, he swore by his own self, since there was no one greaterhe could swear by:
14 E disse così: io benedicerò te, e moltiplicando ti moltiplicherò.	14 I will shower blessings on you and give you many descendants.
15 E così Abraam, lungamente sofferendo, guadagnò la promessione.	15 Because of that, Abraham persevered and received fulfilment of the promise.
16 Gli uomini certo per il maggior di sè giurano; e la fine d' ogni loro controversia (e d'ogni briga) a confirmazione, sì è il giuramento.	16 Human beings, of course, swear an oath by something greater than themselves, and between them,confirmation by an oath puts an end to al dispute.
17 Per la qual cosa, volendo Dio mostrare più abbondevolmente la stabilità del suo consiglio all'erede della promessione interpuose il sacramento,	17 In the same way, when God wanted to show the heirs of the promise even more clearly howunalterable his plan was, he conveyed it by an oath
18 acciò che per due cose ferme, per le quali non è possibile cosa di mentire a Dio, abbiamo fortissimo solazzo, [noi] li quali confugiamo a tenere la proposita speranza (apparecchiata dinanzi);	18 so that through two unalterable factors in which God could not be lying, we who have fled to him mighthave a vigorous encouragement to grasp the hope held out to us.
19 la qual avemo secura e ferma all' anima, sì come è l'àncora, ed entrando insino alle cose che son più a dentro.	19 This is the anchor our souls have, reaching right through inside the curtain
20 Nel qual luogo è entrato inanzi il (nostro) precursore per noi Iesù, il quale secondo l'ordine. di Melchisedec è fatto pontefice sempiternale.	20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest for ever, of theorder of Melchizedek.
