1 Andate dopo la carità, e amate le cose spirituali, in tal modo che profetiate.	1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
2 Chè chi parla colla lingua, non parla agli uomini, ma a Dio; e niuno l' intende. Ma lo Spirito è quello che parla le cose secrete.	2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
3 E quelli che profeta, alli uomini sì parla a edificazione e confortamento.	3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
4 Ma quello che parla per diversi linguaggi, edifica pur sè medesimo; e quelli che profeta, edifica tutta la Chiesa.	4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
5 Voglio che voi tutti parliate in tutte le lingue; maggiormente voglio che voi profetiate. Chè maggiori sono quelli che profetano, che quelli che parlano tutte le lingue; se non fosse per avventura ch' egli interpretassero alcuno detto che fosse per edificazione della Chiesa.	5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
6 Fratelli, se io venissi a voi, e parlassi a voi per diversi linguaggi (e non intendeste), che gioverò, se io non favello a voi (che intendiate) d'alcuno senno, ovver profezia, ovver d' alcuno ammaestramento?	6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
7 Che per certo, quelle cose che son senza anima, sì dànno voce, secondo che son li instrumenti che suonano, [la tibia, ovver] la citara; e questi medesimi, se non distinguono quegli versi che cantano, non sa l'uomo, che dicano, nè ch' egli cantano.	7 And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
8 Che se la tromba non dà quella voce ch' è usata, come s' apparecchia altri a combattere?	8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
9 E così è di noi; chè se noi (parliamo per diversi linguaggi, e) non siamo intesi, come sa l' uomo quello che diciamo? e così parliamo (tutti i linguaggi) all' aere.	9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
10 Chè molte generazioni di lingue son in questo mondo; e niuna ve n'è senza voce.	10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.
11 Adunque se io non saprò lo intendimento. della voce, sarò a colui che mi favella straniero, e quelli che parla sì mi pare uno barbaro.	11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
12 E così voi, che siete amatori di spirito, dimandate che voi abbondiate a edificazione della Chiesa.	12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.
13 E quelli che parla colla lingua, ori perchè sia interpretato (quello ch' egli dice).	13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
14 Chè se io oro pur con la lingua, lo spirito mio favella, ma la mia mente è senza frutto.	14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15 Adunque che sarà? Per certo voglio orare collo spirito e colla mente; e voi [fate il] simigliante collo spirito e colla mente.	15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
16 Ma se tu orerai pur piano con la tua mente, come farà quelli che sa poco (e che copre il suo difetto) e come risponderà: amen, sopra alla tua benedizione? chè egli non sa quello che tu dici.	16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?
17 Chè tu ben (fai e ben) referisci grazie (a Dio); ma un altro non è edificato.	17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
18 Grazie rendo a Dio, che con tutte le vostre lingue parlo.	18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
19 Ma io voglio parlare nella Chiesa maggiormente cinque parole per mio senno a edificazione, che dieci milia parole per linguaggio straniero.	19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
20 Fratelli miei, non vogliate diventare fanciulli del senno; ma siate parvoli di malizia, e di senno siate perfetti (e compiuti).	20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.
21 Che nella legge sì è scritto (e dice Dio): in altre lingue e in altre labbra parlerò a questo popolo; e per tutto ciò non m' hanno esaudito (nè inteso), [dice il Signore].	21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
22 Adunque le lingue sì son in segno, non alli fedeli, ma a coloro che non son fedeli; e le profezie son segni alli fedeli, e non alli infedeli.	22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
23 Adunque, se voi sarete raunati tutti nella Chiesa, e tutti parlerete per diversi linguaggi, e uno idiota o uno infedele entri dentro, non dirà egli che voi impazziate?	23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
24 Ma se tutti profeteranno, ed entrerà uno che non creda nella fede, ovver [uno] idiota, sì è convinto, e si è giudicato da tutti.	24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
25 Saranno palesati (li suoi pensieri e) tutti li suoi secreti (e le sue credenze da coloro che profetano). Questo tale, vedendo questo, non si gitterà egli incontinente in terra per adorare Dio, pronunziando che Dio veramente sia in voi?	25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
26 Adunque che cosa è, fratelli? Quando voi vi raunate, ciascuno di voi ha il salmo, ha l'ammaestramento, ha l'apocalisse, ha il linguaggio e l' interpretazione; e tutte le cose sieno a edificazione.	26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, everyone of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
27 Se alcuno parla lingua straniera, sieno due o più tre, e l'uno interpreti.	27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
28 E se non ha interprete, sì taccia nella Chiesa, e favelli tra sè e Dio.	28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.
29 Li profeti due ovver tre dicano, e gli altri diano sentenza (in quel detto).	29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
30 E se ad un altro sarà rivelato alcuna cosa quando egli siede, taccia il primario (che profeta).	30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
31 Chè voi potete tutti profetare per ciascuno; chè tutti imprendano e tutti si confortino.	31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
32 E li spiriti de' profeti siano soggetti alli profeti.	32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
33 Chè Dio non è diviso, ma è di pace, secondo che io ammaestro in tutte le Chiese de' santi.	33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
34 Le femine tacciano nella Chiesa; chè non è permesso a loro (nè lecito) di parlare; ma siano soggette, secondo che dice la legge.	34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
35 E se vogliono imprendere alcuna cosa, a casa ne dimandano li loro mariti; che sozza cosa è alla femina parlare nella Chiesa.	35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
36 È forse uscita la parola di Dio da voi? 0 venne solamente in voi?	36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
37 Se alcuno pare intra voi, che sia profeta o spirituale, cognosca queste cose che io scrivo a voi; chè son comandamenti del Signore.	37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
38 Ma quelli che non conosce, non sarà conosciuto.	38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
39 Adunque, fratelli, amate di profetare; e non vietate di parlare in diverse lingue.	39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
40 E tutte le cose siano (in voi) onestamente e ordinatamente.	40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
