1 Il primo certo parlare feci, o Teofilo, di tutte le cose che Iesù incominciò a fare e insegnare,	1 Certainly, O Theophilus, I composed the first discourse about everything that Jesus began to do and to teach,
2 insino a quello giorno, ch' egli comandò agli apostoli, da lui eletti, per Spirito Santo (che andasseno predicando per il mondo), e fu assunto (e salì) in cielo.	2 instructing the Apostles, whom he had chosen through the Holy Spirit, even until the day on which he was taken up.
3 Alli quali apostoli si mostrò vivo (cioè in verità di umana carne) dopo la sua passione, e per più volte apparve loro in spazio di quaranta dì, e per molti argumenti (e segni gli disse e) parlò loro del regno di Dio.	3 He also presented himself alive to them, after his Passion, appearing to them throughout forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God with many elucidations.
4 E (in capo di quaranta di apparendo loro quando mangiavano, e) prendendo alcuno cibo con loro, comandò a quegli, che non si partissono di Ierusalem, ma aspettassero la promissione del Padre, la quale avevano udita per sua bocca (cioè lo Spirito Santo, che aveva loro promesso che il Padre mandarebbe a quegli nel nome suo).	4 And dining with them, he instructed them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but that they should wait for the Promise of the Father, “about which you have heard,” he said, “from my own mouth.
5 Chè Giovanni disse: io battezzo in acqua, ma voi sarete battezzati (cioè lavati e mondati) per Spirito Santo dopo non molti dì.	5 For John, indeed, baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit, not many days from now.”
6 Le quali parole udendo gli apostoli, e tutti gli altri ch' erano congregati insieme, sì lo domandarono, se in quello tempo doveva restituire (e riformare) il regno d' Israel.	6 Therefore, those who had assembled together questioned him, saying, “Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom of Israel?”
7 Alli quali egli rispose (e disse proverbiando): non si appartiene a voi di sapere (e conoscere) li tempi e li momenti, li quali Dio Padre ha reservati nella sua potestà.	7 But he said to them: “It is not yours to know the times or the moments, which the Father has set by his own authority.
8 Ma riceverete virtù dal Spirito Santo il quale sopraverrà in voi, e (da lui certificati) mi sarete testimonii in Ierusalem e in tutta la Giudea e Samaria, insino (alla fine e) all' ultimo del mondo.	8 But you shall receive the power of the Holy Spirit, passing over you, and you shall be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth.”
9 E dette queste parole, vedendo gli apostoli, fu levato; e una nebula preselo (ed esportollo) dagli occhi loro.	9 And when he had said these things, while they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.
10 E vedendolo (e guardandolo) gli apostoli per questo modo salire in cielo, incontanente apparvero loro due angeli in specie umana con vestimenta bianche.	10 And while they were watching him going up to heaven, behold, two men stood near them in white vestments.
11 E dissono a loro: o uomini di Galilea, perchè così state (sospesi) riguardando in cielo? Or sappiate che questo Iesù, il quale ora da voi così partito è assunto in cielo, così verrà come l'avete veduto salire in cielo (con ministerio di nubi e con grande maestà).	11 And they said: “Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, shall return in just the same way that you have seen him going up to heaven.”
12 E dopo queste cose si partirono gli apostoli del monte Oliveto, e tornarono in Ierusalem, che v'era da lungi quasi un miglio.	12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain, which is called Olivet, which is next to Jerusalem, within a Sabbath day’s journey.
13 Ed entrarono nel cenacolo (là ove Cristo gli aveva trovati mangiare), nel quale per quello tempo abitavano, cioè: Pietro, Giovanni, Iacobo, Andrea, Filippo, Tomaso, Bartolomeo, Matteo (Taddeo) Iacobo d'Alfeo, Simone Zelote e Iuda Iacobi.	13 And when they had entered into the cenacle, they ascended to the place where Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Jude of James, were staying.
14 Tutti questi erano perseveranti in uno animo in orazione, con la Vergine Maria e con le (altre devote e sante) donne e con altri parenti di Cristo (e della donna).	14 All these were persevering with one accord in prayer with the women, and with Mary, the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
15 E in quelli dì, essendo così congregati insieme forse CXX, si levò (Santo) Piero in mezzo dei fratelli, (e aringò) e disse:	15 In those days, Peter, rising up in the midst of the brothers, said (now the crowd of men altogether was about one hundred and twenty):
16 Uomini fratelli miei, bisogno è che si compia la Scrittura, la quale predisse lo Spirito Santo per bocca di David (profeta) di Iuda, il quale fu duce (e capitaneo) di coloro che preseno Cristo;	16 “Noble brothers, the Scripture must be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit predicted by the mouth of David about Judas, who was the leader of those who apprehended Jesus.
17 il quale era apostolo con noi insieme.	17 He had been numbered among us, and he was chosen by lot for this ministry.
18 Questo sapete, che dello iniquo prezzo ( ch' ebbe di vendere Cristo) possedette ed ebbe uno certo campo; ma (per giusto giudizio di Dio) s' impiccò per la gola, e crepò per il mezzo, e sparsonsi le sue interiora.	18 And this man certainly possessed an estate from the wages of iniquity, and so, having been hanged, he burst open in the middle and all his internal organs poured out.
19 E questo fu palese a tutti quelli che àbitano in Ierusalem; onde perciò si cominciò a chiamare il predetto campo ACELDAMA, cioè campo di sangue, (sì per dare a intendere ch' era comperato di prezzo, per il quale il sangue giusto di Cristo fu tradito e sparto, e sì perchè egli per quello peccato, così miseramente disperandosi, s'uccise e sparse il suo maledetto sangue).	19 And this became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that this field was called in their language, Akeldama, that is, ‘Field of Blood.’
20 Onde di lui s' intende quella parola (di David, per la quale predisse) nel Salmo: l'abitazione sua deserta fia, non sia chi abiti in essa, e il suo vescovado riceva un altro.	20 For it has been written in the book of Psalms: ‘Let their dwelling place be desolate and may there be no one who dwells within it,’ and ‘Let another take his episcopate.’
21 Bisogno è adunque che eleggiamo in suo luogo uno di questi uomini che (si sono e) furono congregati con noi insieme, per tutto quel tempo che Iesù conversò in terra con noi,	21 Therefore, it is necessary that, out of these men who have been assembling with us throughout the entire time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
22 incominciando dal battesimo di Giovanni insino alla sua ascensione, sì che sia testimonio della sua resurrezione insieme con noi.	22 beginning from the baptism of John, until the day when he was taken up from us, one of these be made a witness with us of his Resurrection.”
23 E (dette queste parole, elessono di comune concordia e) statuirono due (di quella turba), cioè Iosef, il quale era chiamato Barsaba, sopra nome Giusto, e Mattia.	23 And they appointed two: Joseph, who was called Barsabbas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
24 E orarono e dissero: preghiamoti, Messere; tu conosci li cuori di tutti, dimostraci (per lo tuo segno, e rivelaci) qual più ti piace di questi due,	24 And praying, they said: “May you, O Lord, who knows the heart of everyone, reveal which one of these two you have chosen,
25 che tenga luogo e ministerio di questo apostolato, del quale è prevaricato Iuda, acciò che andasse nel luogo suo (cioè nell' inferno).	25 to take a place in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas prevaricated, so that he might go to his own place.”
26 E (fatta l'orazione) dettero le sorti, e la sorte venne sopra Mattia, (cioè vuol dire che Dio dimostrò per certo segno, che Mattia più li piacea); onde incontanente fu dagli apostoli (confermato e) annumerato fra gli altri XI (che fu il duodecimo).	26 And they cast lots concerning them, and the lot fell upon Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven Apostles.
