1 E attendete che il bene che voi fate, che non lo facciate dinanzi dagli uomini, per esser da loro veduti; imperò che non avreste niuna mercede dinanzi dal padre vostro che è in cielo.	1 'Be careful not to parade your uprightness in public to attract attention; otherwise you wil lose al rewardfrom your Father in heaven.
2 E quando adunque fai la elemosina, non voler sonare la tuba dinanzi a te, come fanno gl'ipocriti nelle sinagoghe e nelle strade, acciò siano onorati dalli uomini; in verità vi dico che questi hanno ricevuta la loro mercede.	2 So when you give alms, do not have it trumpeted before you; this is what the hypocrites do in thesynagogues and in the streets to win human admiration. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.
3 Ma quando fai la elemosina, fa che non sappia la tua man manca quel che fa la diritta,	3 But when you give alms, your left hand must not know what your right is doing;
4 acciò che la tua elemosina sia occulta; e il padre tuo, che ti vede in nascosto, tel meriterà.	4 your almsgiving must be secret, and your Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.
5 E quando orate, non sarete come li ipocriti li quali amano di esser veduti nelle sinagoghe e nei cantoni delle piazze dalli uomini; in verità vi dico ch' egli hanno ricevuta loro mercede.	5 'And when you pray, do not imitate the hypocrites: they love to say their prayers standing up in thesynagogues and at the street corners for people to see them. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.
6 Ma quando tu orerai, entra nella tua camera, e chiudi l'uscio, ed ôra al padre tuo secretamente; ed egli, che vede il secreto del tuo cuore, renderallo a te.	6 But when you pray, go to your private room, shut yourself in, and so pray to your Father who is in thatsecret place, and your Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.
7 E mentre che voi orate, non vogliate troppo parlare, come fanno li etnici (che sono Gentili); però. che pensano esser esauditi per il suo molto parlare.	7 'In your prayers do not babble as the gentiles do, for they think that by using many words they wil makethemselves heard.
8 Non vogliate adunque assimigliarvi a loro; imperò che il padre vostro sa quel che vi bisogna prima che addimandate.	8 Do not be like them; your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 Adunque a tal modo voi orarete: Padre nostro, il qual sei in cielo, sia santificato il nome tuo.	9 So you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be held holy,
10 Venga il tuo regno; sia fatta la volontà tua, come in cielo, e in terra.	10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
11 A noi dà oggi il pane nostro sostanziale.	11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 E perdonaci li nostri debiti, come etiam noi perdoniamo ai debitori nostri.	12 And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven those who are in debt to us.
13 E non ci inducere nella tentazione, ma liberaci dal male.	13 And do not put us to the test, but save us from the Evil One.
14 Se certo perdonerai agli uomini [i] loro peccato, etiam il vostro padre celeste vi perdonerà li vostri peccati.	14 'Yes, if you forgive others their failings, your heavenly Father wil forgive you yours;
15 Ma se voi non perdonerete agli uomini, e il vostro padre non vi perdonerà li vostri peccati.	15 but if you do not forgive others, your Father wil not forgive your failings either.
16 Quando voi digiunate, non vogliate fare come li ipocriti tristi, li quali si contrafanno la faccia, per parere agli uomini, digiunatori; in verità vi dico ch' egli hanno ricevuta la loro mercede.	16 'When you are fasting, do not put on a gloomy look as the hypocrites do: they go about lookingunsightly to let people know they are fasting. In truth I tel you, they have had their reward.
17 E imperò, quando tu digiuni, ungi il capo tuo, e lava la faccia,	17 But when you fast, put scent on your head and wash your face,
18 acciò che non appaia agli uomini digiunante, ma appaia al tuo padre il qual sta (in cielo) nascoso; e il padre tuo, che ti vede di nascoso, a te ne retribuirà.	18 so that no one will know you are fasting except your Father who sees al that is done in secret; andyour Father who sees al that is done in secret wil reward you.
19 Non vogliate radunar tesoro in terra, dove sono ruchi e tarme che distruggono, e dove li ladroni il rubano e involano.	19 'Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moth and woodworm destroy them andthieves can break in and steal.
20 Ma tesorizzate e radunate il vostro tesoro in cielo, dove non è ruggine e tarme che distrugga e guasti, nè ladroni che rubano nè involano.	20 But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor woodworm destroys them andthieves cannot break in and steal.
21 Imperò [che] dove è il tesoro tuo, quivi è il cuore tuo.	21 For wherever your treasure is, there wil your heart be too.
22 La lucerna del tuo corpo è l'occhio tuo; se il tuo occhio sarà semplice, tutto il tuo corpo sarà lucido.	22 'The lamp of the body is the eye. It follows that if your eye is clear, your whole body will be fil ed withlight.
23 Ma se l'occhio tuo sarà iniquo, tutto il tuo corpo sarà tenebroso. Se adunque il lume ch' è in te sono le tenebre, quante le tenebre vi saranno?	23 But if your eye is diseased, your whole body will be darkness. If then, the light inside you is darkened,what darkness that wil be!
24 Niuno puote servire a duoi signori; imperò che egli o averà l'uno in odio, e l'altro amerà; o l'uno defenderà, e l'altro dispregerà. E imperò voi non potete servire a Dio e alle ricchezze.	24 'No one can be the slave of two masters: he will either hate the first and love the second, or beattached to the first and despise the second. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.
25 E imperò vi dico: non siate solleciti alla. vita vostra, che mangerete (nè che beverete) nè al corpo vostro di che il vestirete. Or non è l'anima vostra da più che il cibo, e il corpo vostro da più che il vestimento?	25 'That is why I am tel ing you not to worry about your life and what you are to eat, nor about your bodyand what you are to wear. Surely life is more than food, and the body more than clothing!
26 Guardate li uccelli del cielo, i quali non sèminano, e non mietono, e non radunano nel granaro; e non di meno il padre vostro celestiale li pasce. Or non sete voi maggior di loro, e di più valore?	26 Look at the birds in the sky. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns; yet your heavenly Fatherfeeds them. Are you not worth much more than they are?
27 Ma quale di voi è, che pensatamente puote aggiungere alla statura sua un cubito?	27 Can any of you, however much you worry, add one single cubit to your span of life?
28 Adunque de' vestimenti perchè sete così solliciti? Guardate li gigli del campo, come crescono; e' non lavorano, e non filano.	28 And why worry about clothing? Think of the flowers growing in the fields; they never have to work orspin;
29 E imperò vi dico, che Salomone con tutta la sua gloria (e con tutta la sua possanza) non fu vestito così bene come il giglio.	29 yet I assure you that not even Solomon in al his royal robes was clothed like one of these.
30 Ma se il fieno del campo, il qual è oggi, e domani (si miete e) mettesi nel forno, Iddio lo veste, quanto maggiormente vestirà voi, gente di poca fede?	30 Now if that is how God clothes the wild flowers growing in the field which are there today and throwninto the furnace tomorrow, wil he not much more look after you, you who have so little faith?
31 E imperò non vogliate esser solliciti, dicendo: che mangeremo, o che beveremo, o di che vestiremo?	31 So do not worry; do not say, "What are we to eat? What are we to drink? What are we to wear?"
32 E imperò le genti cercano tutte queste cose; e il padre vostro sa bene che tutte queste cose vi sono di bisogno.	32 It is the gentiles who set their hearts on al these things. Your heavenly Father knows you need themal .
33 Adunque in prima addomandate il regno di Dio e la giustizia; e tutte queste cose vi saranno aggiunte.	33 Set your hearts on his kingdom first, and on God's saving justice, and al these other things wil begiven you as wel .
34 Non vogliate adunque esser solliciti del giorno di domani; imperò che il giorno di domani a sè sarà sollicito; [basta] al giorno dalla sua malizia.	34 So do not worry about tomorrow: tomorrow wil take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of itsown.'
