Iona 2

BIBBIA VOLGARE	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 E lo Signore Iddio si apparecchiò uno grande pesce ( ch' è chiamato balena) acciò ch' egli inghiottisse Iona; e stette Iona tre dì e tre notti nel ventre del detto pesce.	1 And the Lord prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights.
2 E fece orazione al suo Signore Iddio, istando nel ventre del pesce.	2 And Jonah prayed to the Lord, his God, from the belly of the fish.
3 E disse io gridai al Signore nella mia tribulazione, ed esaudi me; dello ventre dello inferno clamai, ed esaudi me nella mia voce.	3 And he said: “I cried out to the Lord from my tribulation, and he heeded me. From the belly of hell, I cried out, and you heeded my voice.
4 E gittastimi nel profondo, nel cuore del mare, e lo fiume circondòe me; tutti li tuoi gorghi e le tue onde passarono sopra me.	4 And you have thrown me into the deep, in the heart of the sea, and a flood has encircled me. All your whirlpools and your waves have passed over me.
5 E io dissi: io sono cacciato dal conspetto dei tuoi occhi; (e io dissi) ancora io vederoe lo tuo santo tempio.	5 And I said: I am expelled from the sight of your eyes. Yet, truly, I will see your holy temple again.
6 L'acque circondarono me infino all' anima mia; lo abisso affondò me dintorno, e coperse di pelago lo mio capo.	6 The waters surrounded me, even to the soul. The abyss has walled me in. The ocean has covered my head.
7 Io scesi all' estremitadi de' monti; e le terre e li chiavistelli mi chiusono in eterno; e tu, Signore, solleverai dalla corruzione la vita mia.	7 I descended to the base of the mountains. The bars of the earth have enclosed me forever. And you will raise up my life from corruption, Lord, my God.
8 E quando l' anima s'angosciava, io mi ricordai del Signore, acciò che la mia orazione vegna a te, (allo tuo santo nome e) allo tuo santo tempio.	8 When my soul was in anguish within me, I called to mind the Lord, so that my prayer might come to you, to your holy temple.
9 Quelli che guardono (e fanno) le vanitadi indarno, lasceranno la loro misericordia.	9 Those who in vain observe vanities, abandon their own mercy.
10 E io in voce di lode offerirò a te; e tutte le cose ch' io votai, io renderò al Signore per salute.	10 But I, with a voice of praise, will sacrifice to you. I will repay whatever I have vowed to the Lord, because of my salvation.”
11 E lo Signore parlò al pesce: (gettalo fuori), e lo pesce gittò (incontanente) Iona (fuori del mare) in su la terra.	11 And the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
