Ioel 1

BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Questo si è lo detto, che disse lo nostro Signore Iddio a Ioel (profeta) figliuolo di Fatuel.	1 The word of Yahweh that was addressed to Joel son of Pethuel.
2 O voi che siete vecchi, udite questo; tutti voi, abitatori della terra, ricevetelo nelle orecchie; se tal cosa è fatta nelli vostri tempi, ovvero che fu ne' tempi de' vostri padri?	2 Listen to this, you elders; everybody in the country, attend! Has anything like this ever happened in yourday, or in your ancestors' days?
3 E sopra questo narratelo a' vostri figliuoli, e loro lo dicano alli loro figliuoli, e li altri loro figliuoli lo dicano all' altre generazioni.	3 Tell your children about it and let your children tel their children, and their children the next generation!
4 Lo grillo mangiò lo rimanente della ruga; (la ruga sì è uno verme che abita nelle vigne, e sì è fatto al modo di bruco); e lo rimanente della ruga mangiò la rubigine.	4 What the nibbler has left, the grown locust has eaten, what the grown locust has left, the hopper haseaten, and what the hopper has left, the shearer has eaten.
5 O voi che siete ebbri, desedatevi e piangete; e urlate, tutti voi che bevete lo vino in dolcezza; imperò che perìo (e fuggìo) dalla vostra bocca.	5 Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! All you wine-bibbers, lament for the new wine: it has beensnatched from your lips.
6 Però che la gente salio sopra la terra mia, forte e sanza numero; li suoi denti sono come denti di leoni, e li suoi denti mascellari sono come quelli de' leoncini.	6 For a nation has invaded my country, mighty and innumerable, with teeth like a lion's teeth, with thefangs of a lioness.
7 Loro puosono la vigna come deserto (cioè che la desertoro), e scorticoro lo mio fico; enudandolo. lo spoglioro; li suoi rami diventarono bianchi.	7 It has reduced my vines to a desolation and my fig trees to splinters, stripped them and broken themdown, leaving their branches white.
8 Piagni, come vergine vestita di sacco sopra lo marito della sua pubertà (cioè che l' avesti nel tempo de' XII anni).	8 Mourn, as a virgin-bride in sackcloth for the bridegroom of her youth!
9 Lo sacrificio è perito e l'offerta della casa del Signore; e piansono li sacerdoti ch' erano ministri (e servidori) di Dio.	9 Cereal offering and libation are lost to Yahweh's Temple. The priests, the ministers of Yahweh, are inmourning.
10 La contrada è spopolata, e la terra pianse; però che lo grano fue guasto, lo vino venne in confusione, e l'olio si lamentò.	10 The fields are ruined, the land is in mourning, for the grain has been ruined, the new wine has failed, ofolive oil only a trickle.
11 E li lavoratori furono confusi, e li lavoratori urlarono per lo grano e per l' orzo, però che perio la ricolta (del grano e) del campo.	11 Stand dismayed, you farmers, wail, you vinedressers, for the wheat, for the barley! The harvest of thefields has been lost!
12 La vigna è confusa, e lo fico si lamentò; lo melogranato e la palma e lo melo e tutti li (altri) arbori del campo diventorono aridi; però che confusa è l'allegrezza delli figliuoli delli uomini.	12 The vine has withered, the fig tree wilts away; pomegranate, palm tree, apple tree, every tree in thecountryside is dry, and for human beings joy has run dry too.
13 Cignetevi (di cilici), e piagnete, voi sacerdoti, e urlate, voi servidori dell' altare; entrate e giacete nel sacco, voi ministri del mio Iddio; però che è venuto meno della casa del vostro Iddio lo sacrificio e l'offerta.	13 Priests, put on sackcloth and lament! You ministers of the altar, wail! Come here, lie in sackcloth alnight long, you ministers of my God! For the Temple of your God has been deprived of cereal offering andlibation.
14 Santificate lo digiuno, e chiamate lo popolo, e radunate tutti li vecchi che sono abitatori della terra (e chiamateli) nella casa di Dio; e gridate a Dio:	14 Order a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly; you elders, summon everybody in the country to theTemple of Yahweh your God. Cry out to Yahweh:
15 (Ah, ah, ah, quasi dica): guai, guai, guai al dì; però che appresso è lo dì del Signore, e quasi come guastamento verrà (e uscirà) dal potente.	15 'Alas for the day! For the Day of Yahweh is near, coming as destruction from Shaddai.'
16 Or non perirono dinanzi a' vostri occhi le vostre cose che vi nutrivano, e non perio della casa del nostro Signore la letizia e l'allegrezza?	16 Has not the food disappeared before our very eyes? Have not joy and gladness vanished from theTemple of our God?
17 Li animali infracidarono nello loro sterco, e li granai sono guasti, e le apoteche sono dissipate, però che lo grano sì è venuto in confusione.	17 The seeds shrivel under their clods; the granaries are deserted, the barns are in ruins, because theharvest has dried out.
18 Or per che (non) gemerono li animali, le greggie dello armento muggirono? Però che non aveano a mangiare; ma ancora le greggie delle pecore si dispersero.	18 Loudly the cattle groan! The herds of oxen are bewildered because they have no pasture. The flocks ofsheep bear the punishment too.
19 O Signore Iddio, a te griderò (e a te farò lo richiamo), però che lo fuoco hae mangiate le belle cose e dilettevoli del deserto, e la fiamma hae arso tutte le legne (e li arbori) della contrada.	19 Yahweh, to you I cry: for fire has devoured the desert pastures, flame has burnt up all the trees in thecountryside.
20 Ma ancora le bestie del campo erano come l'aia secca che hae mestiero dell' acqua; addomandarono lo vento acquaio da te, però che le fonti dell' acqua sono seccate, e lo fuoco hae divorato la bellezza del deserto.	20 Even the wild animals pant loudly for you, for the watercourses have run dry, and fire has devoured thedesert pastures.
