1 Era Amasia, quando incominciò a regnare, di XXV anni; e XXVIIII anni regnò in Ierusalem; il nome della madre fu Ioadan di Ierusalem.	1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother, named Jehoaddan, was from Jerusalem.
2 E fece bene nel cospetto di Dio, ma non con perfetto cuore.	2 He did what was pleasing in the sight of the LORD, though not wholeheartedly.
3 E vedendosi fortificato nello imperio, uccise i servi i quali aveano morto il re suo padre.	3 After he had strengthened his hold on the kingdom, he slew those of his servants who had killed the king, his father;
4 Ma i loro figliuoli non uccise, secondo che è scritto nella legge di Moisè, dove comandò il Signore, dicendo: non saranno morti i padri per gli figliuoli, nè i figliuoli per gli padri, ma ciascuno muorrà nel suo peccato.	4 but he did not put their children to death, for he acted according to what is written in the law, in the Book of Moses, as the LORD commanded: "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children for their fathers; but only for his own guilt shall a man be put to death."
5 E congregò Amasia Giuda, e ordinogli per famiglie e per tribuni e per centurioni per tutto Giuda e Beniamin; e annumerogli da XX anni in suso, e trovò CCC milia giovani da uscire a battaglia, che portassero lancia e scudo.	5 Amaziah mustered Judah and placed them, out of all Judah and Benjamin according to their ancestral houses, under leaders of thousands and of hundreds. When he had counted those of twenty years and over, he found them to be three hundred thousand picked men fit for war, capable of handling lance and shield.
6 E di Israel condusse al soldo centomilia d' uomini robusti, per cento talenti d'ariento.	6 He also hired a hundred thousand valiant warriors from Israel for a hundred talents of silver.
7 E venne a lui uno uomo di Dio, e disse: o re, non venga teco lo esercito d' Israel; però che il Signore non è con Israel, e con tutti i figliuoli di Efraim.	7 But a man of God came to him and said: "O king, let not the army of Israel go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel, with any Ephraimite.
8 E se tu crederai che le battaglie istiano in fortezza di esercito, il Signore farà che tu sarai vinto da' nemici; però che aiutare e fare fuggire è di Dio.	8 Instead, go on your own, strongly prepared for the conflict; otherwise the LORD will defeat you in the face of the enemy. It is God who has the power to reinforce or to defeat."
9 E disse Amasia all' uomo di Dio: che si farà de' C talenti, li quali io hoe dati ai cavalieri d'Israel? E l'uomo di Dio gli rispose: il Signore hae onde ello ti possa dare molto più che questi.	9 Amaziah answered the man of God, "But what is to be done about the hundred talents that I paid for the troops of Israel?" The man of God replied, "The LORD can give you much more than that."
10 Onde che Amasia partì lo esercito, il quale era venuto a lui di Efraim, acciò che si ritornasse al luogo suo; e quelli irati fortemente [contra Giuda] ritornàronsene nella terra sua.	10 Amaziah then disbanded the troops that had come to him from Ephraim, and sent them home. They, however, became furiously angry with Judah, and returned home blazing with resentment.
11 E Amasia con fidanza trasse il popolo suo, e andossene nella valle delle Saline, e uccise X milia de' figliuoli di Seir.	11 Amaziah now assumed command of his army. They proceeded to the Valley of Salt, and there they killed ten thousand men of Seir.
12 E altri X milia ne presero i figliuoli di Giuda, e menarongli ad uno straboccatoio d' uno sasso, e gittarongli tutti di sommo, i quali tutti (ischiopparono e) creparono.	12 The Judahites also brought back another ten thousand alive, whom they led to the summit of the Rock and then cast down, so that they were all crushed.
13 E quello esercito, che Amasia avea lasciato che non andasse con lui alla battaglia, si sparse per le città di Giuda, di Samaria insino a Beteron; e ucciserne tremilia, e menarono grandissima preda.	13 Meanwhile, the mercenaries whom Amaziah had dismissed from battle service with him raided the cities of Judah from Samaria to Beth-horon. They killed three thousand of the inhabitants and took away much booty.
14 E Amasia dopo la sconfitta degli Idumei, e portatosi gl' iddii de' figliuoli di Seir, fecesi di quegli iddii, e adoravagli, e a loro offeriva incenso.	14 When Amaziah returned from his conquest of the Edomites he brought back with him the gods of the people of Seir, which he set up as his own gods; he bowed down before them and offered sacrifice to them.
15 Per la quale cosa irato il Signore contra Amasia, mandò a lui uno profeta, il quale gli disse: perchè hai tu adorati quegl' iddii, i quali non liberarono il popolo suo delle tue mani?	15 Then the anger of the LORD blazed out against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him who said: "Why have you had recourse to this people's gods that could not save their own people from your hand?"
16 E dicendo egli questo, rispose: se' tu consigliere del re? istà in pace, acciò ch' io non t' uccida. E partendosi il profeta, disse: io so che il Signore hae pensato d' ucciderti, il quale hai fatto questo male e sopra questo non hai acconsentito il mio, consiglio.	16 While he was still speaking, however, the king said to him: "Have you been made the king's counselor? Be silent! Why should it be necessary to kill you?" Therefore the prophet desisted. "I know, however," he said, "that God has let you take counsel to your own destruction, because you have done this thing and have refused to hear my counsel."
17 E Amasia re di Giuda, fatto uno pessimo consiglio, mandò a Ioas figliuolo di Ioacaz figliuolo di Ieu, re d' Israel, dicendo: vieni, e vediamoci insieme.	17 Having taken counsel, King Amaziah of Judah sent messengers to Joash, son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us meet each other face to face."
18 E colui rimandò i nuncii, dicendo: il cardo, il quale è nel Libano, mandò al cedro del Libano, dicendo: dà la tua figliuola per moglie al mio figliuolo; ed ecco, che le bestie, le quali erano nel bosco, passarono e conculcarono lo cardo.	18 King Joash of Israel sent this reply to King Amaziah of Judah: "The thistle of the Lebanon sent a message to the cedar of the Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son for his wife.' But the wild beasts of the Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle down.
19 Tu hai detto: io percossi Edom, e perciò si leva il tuo cuore in superbia; siedi in casa tua; perchè provochi tu il male, perchè cada tu, e Giuda con esso teco?	19 You are thinking, 'See, I have beaten Edom!', and thus ambition makes you proud. Remain at home. Why involve yourself, and Judah with you, in misfortune and failure?"
20 E non volse Amasia intenderlo, però ch' era volontà di Dio, che fosse dato nelle mani de' nemici, per cagione degl' iddii di Edom.	20 But Amaziah would not listen, for God had determined to hand them over because they had had recourse to the gods of Edom.
21 E andò Ioas re d'Israel, e viddero l'uno l'altro; e Amasia, re di Giuda, era in Betsames di Giuda.	21 Therefore King Joash of Israel advanced and he and King Amaziah met in battle at Beth-shemesh of Judah.
22 E cadde Giuda dinanzi ad Israel, e fuggirono alle case loro.	22 There Judah was defeated by Israel, and all the Judean soldiers fled homeward.
23 E Ioas re d' Israel prese Amasia re di Giuda figliuolo di Ioas figliuolo di Ioacaz in Betsames, e menollo in Ierusalem; e disfecegli le mura, della porta di Efraim insino alla porta del canto, CCCC cubiti.	23 King Joash of Israel captured Amaziah, king of Judah, son of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh and brought him to Jerusalem. Then he tore down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate, a distance of four hundred cubits.
24 E tutto l'oro e l'ariento, e tutte le cose che puotè trovare nella casa del Signore, e appo Obededom, e anco nei tesori della casa regale, e anco li figliuoli delli ostaggi, rimenò in Samaria.	24 He took away all the gold and silver and all the vessels he found in the house of God with Obed-edom, together with the treasures of the palace, and hostages as well. Then he returned to Samaria.
25 E vivette Amasia figliuolo di Ioas re di Giuda, poi che morì Ioas figliuolo di Ioacaz re d' Israel, XV anni.	25 Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, survived Joash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, by fifteen years.
26 Tutto l'altro de' fatti d'Amasia, primi e ultimi, sì è scritto nel libro de' re di Giuda e d' Israel.	26 The rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, can be found written, as is well known, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
27 Il quale poi che si partìo dal Signore, puoserli insidie in Ierusalem; e fuggito lui in Lachis, mandarono, e ucciserlo ivi.	27 Now from the time that Amaziah ceased to follow the LORD, a conspiracy was formed against him in Jerusalem; hence he fled to Lachish. But they pursued him to Lachish and put him to death there.
28 E riportandolo sui cavalli, seppellironlo coi suoi padri nella città di David.	28 They brought him back on horses and buried him with his ancestors in the City of Judah.
