LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Figlio, se ti muovi a servire il Signore prepara il tuo animo alla prova;	1 My child, if you aspire to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for an ordeal.
2 tieni pronto il tuo cuore, fatti coraggio, non aver fretta nel tempo della sventura;	2 Be sincere of heart, be steadfast, and do not be alarmed when disaster comes.
3 attàccati a lui e non allontanartene, perché goda alla fine nell'abbondanza.	3 Cling to him and do not leave him, so that you may be honoured at the end of your days.
4 Accetta tutto quello che s'abbatte su di te e nelle vicissitudini più umilianti sii paziente:	4 Whatever happens to you, accept it, and in the uncertainties of your humble state, be patient,
5 come l'oro si purifica nel fuoco, così gli eletti nella brace dell'afflizione.	5 since gold is tested in the fire, and the chosen in the furnace of humiliation.
6 Confida in lui, egli ti aiuterà, raddrizza le tue vie e spera in lui.	6 Trust him and he wil uphold you, fol ow a straight path and hope in him.
7 Quanti temete il Signore attendete la sua misericordia, non deviate, per non cadere.	7 You who fear the Lord, wait for his mercy; do not turn aside, for fear you fal .
8 Quanti temete il Signore, confidate in lui, perché non vi mancherà la sua ricompensa.	8 You who fear the Lord, trust him, and you will not be robbed of your reward.
9 Quanti temete il Signore, sperate nei suoi beni, nella gioia duratura e nella sua misericordia.	9 You who fear the Lord, hope for those good gifts of his, everlasting joy and mercy.
10 Considerate le generazioni passate e osservate: chi ha confidato nel Signore ed è rimasto confuso? Chi ha perseverato nel temerlo ed è stato abbandonato? Chi l'ha invocato e lui è rimasto sordo?	10 Look at the generations of old and see: whoever trusted in the Lord and was put to shame? Orwhoever, steadfastly fearing him, was forsaken? Or whoever cal ed to him and was ignored?
11 Perché il Signore è pieno di compassione e di misericordia, perdona i peccati e salva nel tempo della tribolazione.	11 For the Lord is compassionate and merciful, he forgives sins and saves in the time of distress.
12 Guai ai cuori timidi e alle mani rilassate, al peccatore che cammina su due sentieri.	12 Woe to faint hearts and listless hands, and to the sinner who treads two paths.
13 Guai al cuore meschino che non crede, perché non avrà protezione.	13 Woe to the listless heart that has no faith, for such will have no protection.
14 Guai a voi che avete perduto la costanza: che cosa farete nella visita del Signore?	14 Woe to you who have lost the strength to endure; what will you do at the Lord's visitation?
15 Quanti temono il Signore non diffidano delle sue parole, e quanti lo amano praticano le sue vie.	15 Those who fear the Lord do not disdain his words, and those who love him keep his ways.
16 Quanti temono il Signore vogliono piacergli, e quanti lo amano osservano la sua legge.	16 Those who fear the Lord do their best to please him, and those who love him wil find satisfaction in theLaw.
17 Quanti temono il Signore tengono pronto il loro cuore e si umiliano al suo cospetto.	17 Those who fear the Lord keep their hearts prepared and humble themselves in his presence.
18 Cadiamo nelle mani del Signore e non nelle mani degli uomini, perché come è la sua grandezza così è la sua misericordia.	18 Let us fal into the hands of the Lord, not into any human clutches; for as his majesty is, so too is hismercy.
